I have had an appointment with this place for months. And at this point, I am convinced that they are trying to do is screw with my sleep. They always give me a crackhead early appointment and then they call me to come in even earlier than that and then the morning of right when I'm ready to leave, they call me and cancel. This is the fourth time that they've done it now. What is going on? They always tell me that the "system is down." How could it be down every time I'm supposed to come in? This eye doctor is horrible!! He started yelling at me in response to me asking questions. I asked him if he was yelling and he said he was explaining and he said so you understand. I said you don't need to yell but he continued to yell his responses! I tried asking him a different question and he wouldn't let me ask it. He told me he was done here and don't give her a follow up appointment. I got mad and and tried to leave but he followed me very closely (like in my space) I asked him to not get so close but he continued. As if he was escorting me out the door. I took a patient of mine to this facility and when I signed in the patient the front receptionist seemed nice but as soon as she started talking I was able to smell the alcohol despite her chewing gum and she was completely rude laughing about other patients and hanging up the phone and laughing about it. Maybe that's why she was so loud and mean? Everyone one else was kind and patient especially the Dr. I definitely would like for who ever is in charge to start checking in who they're hiring because that is completely unbelievable especially in a healthcare setting. read more

The doctor is great although the front lady receptionist that was sitting made us feel uncomfortable. We got there at 7:45, yes we knew we weren't going to get in right away but my dad likes sitting there instead of a cold car. She started talking bad about us to her coworker with the close glass but we can clearly hear her. It made my parents upset because we were nice upon arrival. It doesn't cost anything to be nice. She has an attitude and unprofessional. They had zero concern in who was listening to there conversation and made the room feel uncomfortable. They would speak terrible about anyone who they answered the phone too and proceed to laugh. All they did was complain and they sure showed it to their patients. READ ALL OF YOUR PAPERWORK Before you sign anything read all of the documents. I was advised I wouldn't be able to see the specialist if I did NOT sign their Arbitration Agreement. I understand it is policy for them but it is not my only option. Other than that it was pretty hot in there especially for being early in the morning my appointment was at 8:20 am and that small room was really packed and warm. Staff in the front seemed nice didn't interact with them much until I was asked that I needed to sign the arbitration form in order to be seen. Reason for my two stars: it was warm, and it looked like they were over scheduled, and enforcement for me to sign that agreement which I didn't and left. read more

I think Dr. Chawla is nice and professional and the whole staff is very sweet and accommodating. My only issue is that sometimes the wait is long but I've expressed the need to rush before and they all worked together to help get my appointment handled before I had to go. Aside from all that, the monthly injections I have to get are improving my vision! (I'm a type 1 diabetic so keeping my vision is a bit of a priority.) And, as a side note, they always have cookies and fresh coffee every single time, plus there's always a new movie showing! And let me tell you, buddy, those comforts matter when you're waiting for eye injections! read more

However they gave me a list of eye doctors to go see that would except my insurance for glasses, and only one on that list still excepts my insurance. Overall I rated in a four star. read more

My appointment went great. Everyone in the office is kind and they talk and laugh with each other in the office. It was a very comfortable setting. Horrible scheduling. One can't be 15 minutes late but they can take 5 hours just to help us. Had an lappoinent scheduled at 2:30 (got there earlier) didn't get assistance until 5:50pm. Doctors need to understand we have other things to do as professionals too. They should fix scheduling issue and get more staff to speed it up. There was about 27 people scheduled at the same time. Staff is rude ,slow and hat washing there hands love how they make you wait a hour plus each time so after waiting in the lobby so long you get called and then to waiting room to for about 45 mins(love the touch with the tv and the movie going to help you love track of time) then you get to another room to waiting on some else who don't like water and then to room 3 to wait for a rude dr who has no time to listen to anything cause they too busy. They over book a lot and you can count on a 2 and a half hour appointment no matter when you go. Today we waited sooooo long between the numbing drops and the injection, my dad really felt it. This place needs to put in practice time management. Our appointment was at 10:00am my mom got seen at 10:45 we waited in a separate waiting room about 30 minutes and got called back for more testing with her vision . By 11:45 we hadn't seen a doctor or anything just nurses. I feel that as a office you shouldn't "over book" because it looks VERY UNPROFESSIONAL ! I really wasn't happy also with the doctor either because for the time that we waited it was very short and quick the consultation. Thank you for the opportunity to express some comments and suggestions. First overall I would give Retina Institute a "C". The reason is all is very good except the reception area. Just a suggestion. When a patient is signing in and talking to the receptionist they should be cheerfully greeted and have the attention of the receptionist. Today I felt as though I was second class as the reception attendants talked back and fourth as though I was not there. To a client about to receive treatment this does not telegraph much care or concern to them. Since the reception is the front line to all that occurs I personally believe there is room for improvement in your greeting area. read more

When I do it's maybe 10 minutes with an assistant in the room making me feel I need to get done quickly! Whats the point in making an appointment here? Its easily a 2 hr wait. When Dr Castillo finally comes in the room, he rushes. Terrible bed side manner. Makes you, as the patient, feel as though you are a burden disrupting his day. He even somewhat lectured me as if I was a child. Extremely rude and uncaring Dr. The staff is careless and forgetful. The young man who drew my blood and put dye in was very rough and rude. The waiting area was full of crying children even though there's a sign stating no children. The bathroom had urine all over the toilet and toilet paper on the floor. If your needing an eye Dr , I highly recommend you look elsewhere. I wished I could at this point. These folks are so competent and caring. Dr. Castillo has been providing great care to help maintain my limited vision, with the goal of improving it, if at all possible. They have a variety of clientele, and do get busy. The staff are efficient, and they are pretty good at scheduling the appointments so the wait time isn't too long. I've found that if they are running behind, as all doctors do on occasion, and I'm in a time crunch.....I just reschedule. I see lots of friends and neighbors there, so they must be doing something right. I can recommend them without reservation. read more

Dr. Castillo ran some exams and inserted some medication on the bad eye. At about a week after I was able to recover most of the vision.
