We started our aba journey with B.I. mostly because it was close to home relative to some other…read moreplaces that were covered by our insurance at the time. Our daughter initially liked it and we could see the difference immediately... As in the first week. We started out with a great BCBA that seemed to have our daughter's best interest at heart. unfortunately, she had a leave of absence - non-work related - and we were given to a bcba that was working from out of state. We were told we would meet with our bcba every other week for an hour. But from April till the beginning of August we met with a bcba a total of 3 times. The meetings were inconsistent, they cancelled her whole day at least 2-3x due to insufficient staff. And last straw was her refusing to go ...as well as not gettig her set up with our new insurance that went into effect Mid year. We were told there MIGHT be a break in services - as in a day or 2, but in reality nobody even called or got insurance benefits or set anything up until 2 days into her break... so she missed a week of services despite having her new insurance info for about 3 weeks prior to the break in coverage. I was told they dont have any control over it... so that means it comes from corporate the way this is handled - allegedly. at b.I. the child will be with as many as 4 or more RBT's thru their day. Its hard to track improvement if you're not with the same person. She would have a buffet of people throughout her day and weeks. I will say she hated going the last 2 weeks we were there. She would cry at waking up and said "all done" from jump. It would take at least 2 or 3 people to even get her to walk in that last week. I really wanted to just take her home with me or send her to her actual ecse class. But she would be fine by the end of the day and I knew ther were a few great Rbt's there but the turnover we saw in such a short time was significant. Can you child thrive here? i'm sure there are kids that do very well here and people love it. It just wasn't a great fit for us. I wont name names but there were some great RBT's there.. but there were some that my daughter would see and she would duck and hide behind me and yell all done!... or worse she dropped to the ground so she would have to go inside. and on the flip side, there were 2 or 3 that she would hug! I know something happened in the last 2 weeks that traumatized her. as a special needs parent, it breaks my heart to know I will never know what it was but i'm glad we started here to know that different companies do things differently...so we can know what we like and what we don't.

I went ahead and scheduled a consultation with this practice because I quite liked Jennifer Lee's…read morephilosophy on her website. You don't get to pick who you see, though, and I ended up seeing her colleague, Amely Cardenas. After the consult, I immediately knew this wasn't the right practice for me. Amely was very stoic in our consult. For folks who want a therapist who comes off as unempathetic, she may be fine. I shared with her some of the reasons I was seeking mental healthcare, including some recent tragedies in my family. (Deaths, being in a shooting, etc.) Amely's response to this was the reason so many adults will not go to therapy. It was so unhelpful and tragically misplaced, I couldn't help but laugh. She sent me a document of "coping mechanisms" that included recommendations such as watching cute cat videos and to eat a little chocolate. Read the room, Amely. This is the reason people are afraid of therapy - because instead of having a human conversation with a therapist, I was met with a robot who told me to eat candy and watch YouTube. I ended up finding a therapist that treated me as a human. It was much better than this experience, which I wasn't even going to take the time to review, until I noticed they billed me and my insurance for a free consultation. Nice.

Taking care of your mental health is soo important and Ms. Lee definitely can help with that. She's…read morea great listener and provides helpful tools and feedback to help you get on and/or stay on track at your own pace. I definitely recommend!
