The practitioner who replaced them has zero experience dealing with neurodivergence. Her lack of knowledge is so severe that she requires DEA drug screens for all neurodivergent patients on stimulants under the guise of ensuring we are not "manic." She completely dismissed my medical history, claiming that prior records, years of testing, and previous diagnoses were irrelevant. She believes the 20 minutes she spent with me makes her more credible than years of documented medical history. Even worse, she repeatedly triggered my Autistic/ADHD/AuDHD symptoms, provoking a severe meltdown and leaving me physically ill. My well-being was clearly not her priority. When my therapist tried contacting the office multiple times over a week to help, her calls went ignored. Furthermore, this clinician requested that my regular psychiatrist of over 10 years call her to discuss my treatment but learned today that more forms were needed--forms that were not provided. Ultimately, the office made it clear today that she had no interest in his professional background information anyway. Her mind was made up. Singling out neurodivergent patients with separate, harmful protocols is wrong. Mistaking neurodivergence for mania is a deeply harmful, outdated stereotype. For the head of the Austin office to lack this basic understanding is completely irresponsible. If you are Autistic, ADHD, or AuDHD, this is not the place for you. I was seen by a PA who wanted to take me off my current meds which weren't even at a therapeutic dose and place me on an expensive med. there Are 3 tiers of caplyta, 10, 21 and 42 mg. I was only on 200 Lamictal and 50 seroquel before attempting to change to the 21 mg Caplyta suggested by the dr. It was too strong and I should have been started on the 10mg. I stopped it and called the office and asked for the 10mg. I wasn't going to be able to make it to the office for samples so they said they would put it in the mail if they could and would let me know but no one called me to let me know and I don't check the mail regularly and because I wasn't contacted with an update the meds sat in 100 degree weather for a few days. Then I had a waste of an appointment and was told to stay on my regular meds since I'm doing ok on them and I'm like why did we bother doing the other med? could it possibly be for money? Their office gets kickbacks for prescribing the hot new meds? moving forward, my PA called me a week after the last phone appointment to check how I was doing with the increase in my regular meds and she mentioned that I had gotten Out of the hospital recently... that was 3 years ago. This office does not listen, does not communicate and prob prescribes crap for free lunches from drug reps. The Dr. is a goonish character and I don't trust anyone who offers a handshake with no follow through. I would not recommend this office.

I thought that would forever be my worst story of therapy gone wrong, of a therapist superimposing their own beliefs and issues on me. Diana hit a new record. She "fired" me as a client and pulled wildly unethical moves before doing so. I wholly believe that there is a time to part ways when therapy isn't serving the client or when a client is rejecting help from the therapist to everyone's detriment. Therapists have just as much of a right to end the relationship as clients do. The reason I'm writing this has nothing to do with the farewell and everything to do with how it was handled. I have an eating disorder. I made it clear from the start that I didn't care that she didn't specialize in them. I'd had enough therapy around eating disorders and wanted to take a new approach. I also told her in our first session that if she thought it wasn't a fit to have open communication because I would be doing so. I've played the "suffer through a relationship that isn't working" game too much at this point in therapy. We had weekly sessions for months. I thought many of them were helping. But then I told her how many calories I consumed during the week. That was undeniably the point where she flipped. We talked for a month or so more. She started talking to my dietician more. That seemed logical to me. And then she started telling my therapist I needed to go to treatment. Asking her why she hadn't suggested it or wasn't pushing it on me. (She has.) I am in no way a high risk anorexic. Perhaps treatment wouldn't hurt but my life right now prioritizes above something that isn't necessary. She pressured me and I said no, several times. And then the day came where she let me tell her about my life before interrupting and starting the conversation of removal of services provided. Like I mentioned, that alone wasn't the issue. What WAS the issue was that she had also called my dietician and tried to pressure her into leaving me. To the point of my dietician's discomfort and recognition that abandonment on that level would be detrimental and more harmful that good. (How Diana didn't see that, I don't know.) She gave me an ULTIMATUM of treatment or no therapy. She told me I COULD NOT go to therapy ANYWHERE until I dealt with my eating disorder. (And no, this wasn't just in reference to being cognitively unable to proceed with EMDR.) She wouldn't give me referrals. She made fun of the shirt I was wearing that day that said, "Mental health is health," because I wouldn't go to treatment. I was in utter shock during that last session so I didn't really have responses beyond saying no to treatment and that I understood where she was coming from. But none of those things are okay and I should have said that to her then. I regret that. Fuck that. I deserve therapy. Everyone does. She clearly spooked when eating disorder stuff came up, was not educated on it, and chose to bully and threaten me instead of just saying, "I'm not qualified in this topic and don't feel comfortable proceeding." Period. Period. Period. If you don't fit in her little box of qualifications, stay away. And if you pick up any of her own anxieties, leave. It's not worth wasting your time.

But without going into details, Lia basically undermined my spouse to me 1:1, and I later found out she did the same with my spouse 1:1. She basically told both of us unhelpful things about the other. In our next 1:2 session she pretty much incited an argument. We had come to her asking for help and trusting her faith-based professionalism only to receive the opposite. You could maybe benefit if you happen to be paired with one of the tiny percentage of therapists who have any discernible degree of competence (they do exist--my Friday group therapist was a blessing), but you'll be paying an absurd amount for treatment compared to others in the area, and their billing department will make you want to bash your head through a window. Don't trust the estimate they give you/double check with your insurance yourself before committing. if you have bipolar disorder--run. Literally no one I spoke to had any real understanding of the diagnosis and I was even given treatment recommendations that are known to cause mania. One of my individual therapy sessions consisted of the therapist ranting about how confused she was that I wasn't improving (which made me feel so great and hopeful!) My group therapist repeatedly taught concepts inaccurately. She also snapped at me for not participating in an activity that had caused me to go into a panicked/dissassociative state. Spoiler alert: no one checked in to see if I was ok or gave me any support to actually complete an activity that I found to be incredibly difficult emotionally. Just one of soooo many missed opportunities to actually work through problems. Process groups were consistently utter chaos, and when I brought up my concerns about it, I was asked why *I* hadn't spoken up and redirected the conversation. I showed up to Pathlight to be treated, not to facilitate my and my group's treatment. Every concern I had was met with "you need to advocate for yourself better," then when I did speak up, I was made to look like a crazy irate maniac. You'll have to ask for things multiple times to (possibly) get them. Asked my individual therapist for a referral 3 times before just giving up. At the end of my horrendous time there, I had a meeting with the clinical manager to address some issues. I was told I'd get to talk to my individual therapist about the issues the next day and my group therapist the next week. Never got pulled by my individual therapist the next day, and my email to the clinical manager asking if she had spoken to them never got a response. The only insightful conversation I had with my therapist was about how to define happiness/fulfillment while depressed, and I was promised an activity that explored that idea. I was later handed a printout of a children's picture book about a little girl searching for happiness and learning it was inside of her all along. I mean, come on. In my last session, my therapist even said "you can't really learn and use new skills if you're in the state you're in" -- as if I hadn't just spent 2 months of my life and thousands of dollars to learn how to use coping skills even when I'm not well. She didn't have a response when I asked her why I was in the treatment program if that's the case. It was just let down after let down, and I was always to blame. I would never go back, and never would've shown up in the first place if they had accurately estimated my total bill. So many more problems I could bring up, but all in all I was utterly disappointed by the program and had to deal with more issues than I've ever experienced in a treatment setting. Complete negligence & incompetence all around.
