Had the worst dining experience here today for lunch. I've been here 2 times for Happy Hour and have loved it. Came for lunch. Waited 10 minutes and no one came to take our order. We had to ask the busser to get someone to take our order. The server came right away and didn't apologize for making us wait. We ordered French fries, chicken ceaser salad and a pizza. Our salad and fries came out first. The fries were cold and stale, the ceaser salad barely had any salad and what was there was wilted. The chicken was dry and seemed old. We wanted to send the food back but there was no server in site. When we finally had enough and were going to leave and tell the hostess about our food, our server showed up. We told him to cancel the pizza order, that the salad was wilted and the fries were cold. He apologized and that was it. We left. So disappointed in the service and the food. read more

This is a nice, casual place. I went for brunch and had the mushroom omelet with avocado. I thought there would be chunks of avocado in the omelet but was pleasantly surprised to get a good amount of sliced avocado on the top. It came with a lot of mushrooms that were quartered.The potatoes were okay. I like my potatoes cooked more golden brown. Had the affogato for dessert. It was soft-serve ice cream and was okay. Service is friendly and food was served in a reasonable amount of time. We went at 1:00pm on a Saturday, and there were quite a few available tables. read more

This place has the best skinny fries on the strip--they changed them once, and a lot of people weren't happy about it. Fortunately, they've somehow brought back what works. The restaurant consistently delivers fresh ingredients and interesting menu options. I especially enjoy their salads and rotating dishes. I've even had oysters and some delicious appetizers during happy hour. Overall, it's a great sit-down spot next to Market Hall--just be sure not to upset the lunch hostess by bringing and eating your Market Hall finds on their patio! read more

I'd give this spot a solid 4.5 stars, so it's better than the 4 Stars I'm giving it... As my wife and I explore the East Bay for our new "Go To" spots, this restaurant has been recommended numerous times, so with a night off from the kids we had our date night here. I was impressed with numerous things... the venue is so pleasant. The seating area upstairs has a cozy feel to it with really nice booths set up along the windows. The service staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was really good. The one gripe we had was that the salads were a bit overdressed, but this is something that can be remedied with a little instruction. Other than that, the meal was awesome! It was nice to be treated to some live music as well! Overall take is that we'll be coming back, especially to try the prime rib night! read more

The salmon on my salad was cooked perfectly. So crispy on the outside and moist inside, not fully cooked which is how salmon should be cooked. Its dries when you overcook it. Dined in on Saturday 11/17/24. Had 5 pm reservation. Was seated promptly. Service was wonderful and attentive. We had the fried brussels sprouts appetizer, which was finished with a balsamic vinegar glaze. It was crispy with no bitterness. For entrees I ordered the salmon with quinoa, the portion was just right, the salmon flavorful and fork tender. My friend ordered the rotisserie chicken and was surprised with a huge chicken portion that was delicious and left plenty to take home. The chicken came with mashed potatoes under it and a side of green beans and mushrooms that had a sauce with a pleasant kick, it was the favorite for the both of us. For dessert my friend ordered tiramisu and I had the pumpkin crème brûlée. Both were delicious. The venue had been remodeled from the previous restaurant and I liked the chic vibe. We were seated upstairs with plenty of rooms and have nice wide windows to provide views of the neighborhood. Overall this was a very pleasant experience, the foods were delicious and right price point for the value. I'd definitely come back. Sorry no pictures were taken. read more

Friend and I enjoyed lunch at one of the outdoor tables. Our server (sorry, name unknown) was absolutely exceptional. He deserves 5+ stars. The food, surprisingly, was more of a 3-star experience. I ordered the salmon salad. Was not expecting a piece of deep fried salmon (possibly air fried? either way it was meh). Also, the salad dressing had a white tinge & tangy taste to it; was not the basic vinaigrette described in menu. Those two surprises took my 5-star expectation down to a 3-star experience. Fries and oysters were great but decided not to order more food due to how offensive the service was. Firstly we were shoved in a corner while these two older white woman were asked if they liked to switch their seats so they were more comfortable. From the minute my girlfriend and I sat down we felt uncomfortable. All of the other guests were being taken care of and asked how they were doing. (They were all white) While me and my partner were just in the corner being ignored and having the most awkward interactions with our server. Also the espresso martini had to be a joke absolutely no foam and was basically vodka with a splash of cold brew and 2 sad little beans floating in the mess. Review for the first Wednesday neighborhood jazz night and birthday This is the kind of experience you want within walking distance from your place. We have been longing for a live music place on college avenue forever. Hopefully they will keep the music going! Since acre has opened, I have been for a business dinner once upstairs in a cozy booth and happy hour once in their long bar which was packed so we had to stand, but the cocktails were good. I like the atmosphere as it is a little upscale, but still Oakland so you can be as casual as you like. You check in with the host stand downstairs at the entrance and they will lead you up to your table up a tall staircase to the second floor. The musicians were set up at the top of the stairs. Tonight was one female singer/keyboard and two band mates. My husband and I were seated at a four top so we sat on one side of the table so we could clearly see the band besides when the wait staff was walking past. When we arrived at 7 PM, the hostess said happy birthday to my husband, since I had added the note to OpenTable. She said that is all they do for birthdays, so he was relieved as he doesn't like to draw attention to himself. However, once seated, the waitress presented him with a gold envelope inscribed with happy birthday and inside was a card that they had all signed. She also presented us with two sparkling drinks for his celebration. At least there was no singing! Restrooms are upstairs all the way to the back right. You do pass a little bit of the kitchen, but all the staff are friendly and let you pass first. There are three unisex toilets and a shared sink space. As noted on their host stand, restrooms are for patrons only. For neighborhood night they had a New Orleans inspired prefixed menu and we tried all six of the offerings. The fried oysters were delicious, very crispy batter and juicy on the inside with a good dipping sauce and wedge of lemon. I'm not a fan of hush puppies, but my husband said they were not as salty as they should be. The crab and andouille sausage gumbo was a favorite of my husband while I enjoyed the pork roast dish. This dish was huge and we had to pack it to go. They pack leftovers for you in comparable containers. The two desserts were also huge, but unfortunately, they were not travel friendly. I preferred the chewy chocolate brownie, and he preferred the banana foster. They both came in large bowls, topped with gigantic swirls of vanilla soft serve. Impressive but could not finish them. The wait staff was attentive and filled our water glasses when they were getting empty. Our waitress was very professional and made sure we had our drinks and proper plating/silverware. The chef came to talk to us once. I was able to pay the bill on their inKind loyalty app. The restaurant closed at 9 PM and neighborhood night went until 8:30 PM which is when we departed. The band was still singing at that time. They had a tip jar as well. Music was very good and people would clap after songs. Recommend that you sit towards the front of the stairs if you want to enjoy the music and towards the back of the restaurant if you want to talk. They have interesting wall murals and artwork. They have a lot of speakers on the ceilings and what looks like sound proofing so the noise level was comfortable. The temperature was warm and we put out coats on the back of our chairs. There were a few kids dining when we were there but luckily not the screaming kind. It is free to park at the BART after 3pm and it's across the street from the restaurant. read more

I went for happy hour and we ordered some drinks which were fine. We also ordered pizza which was the biggest mistake ever. The pizza was not only cold, it was also very wet. We told the waiter who then told the chef who didn't seem to care at all. The pizza was supposed to be woodfired but it didn't seem like it was ever near a fire. It was disgusting and inedible. This business is not long for this area, especially if the shift is not even try to make it right. Avoid don't waste your money. It was also hilarious how tiny the happy hour drinks were. Such a wonderful evening spent at Acre Kitchen and Bar. After some Christmas shopping on Rockridge Ave I wanted to give myself a gift in the form of a craft cocktail. I decided to sit at the bar and after mulling over a few choices I settled on the Turkish Delight. It's pisco, vodka, blood orange, and chocolate bitters, and yes, it is as delicious as it sounds! A vodka and gin mixed cocktail was not appealing to me, or my friend so we ended up ordering off the drink menu. The shrimp were acidic, like they were soaked in citric acid. It made my mouth burn. The lobster paste with creamy vodka sauce was more like a spicy red sauce. There was no cream; and the presentation was terrible! They could have at least added some basil or parsley. The "smash burger" is not a smash burger...it's a thick patty that is poorly seasoned with no flavor and a very weird secret sauce that taste like sweet tomato sauce you'd put on pasta. Definitely experimental. Also there is a fee for the health insurance of workers which is written on the menu in tiny tiny font at the bottom. I get it but they could just pay their workers enough, it kind of made me want to take that amount off of a 20% tip (I didn't this time). It's fine. The first time we dined here it took one hour before our food arrived. The food was very good so we came back a second time. It took 35 minutes for our cocktails to arrive. Both times we dined upstairs. Again the food was very good but obviously the service is definitely lacking. In addition to the expected 20% tip, they add 5% to the bill so the customers can pay the the employees medical. So expect to pay 25% more than the price of your meal. On the bill, they advise you that they charge the 5% so that they can provide the employees with medical. They also advise you that you can request to have the 5% removed. I wonder how many people feel comfortable doing that. Why not inlcrease the menu price by 5%. A $30 menu price then becomes $31.50 and the cusomers won't know that are actually paying the employee's medical. The atmosphere is very nice here and the food is good. If you can get by the service and paying the employee's medical, then you would have a fine meal. read more

I promised myself I would return after trying Acre for Oakland Restaurant week. We made earlish reservations for upstairs and were seated at a table for two next to the stair railing. This made for an awkward and uncomfortable dining experience since all you can hear are the conversations of the folks coming up the stairs to be seated. The Caesar continues to be our favorite dish and I might stick to the shareable menu if I return. The cocktails are just okay and pricey. The Oxtail Gnocchi was salty and needed something to break up the richness (like the coleslaw does for the Pork Loin). Last week two friends and I joined a full dining room at Acre, for lunch. The entrees were in the $20 range. My friends had smoked salmon, and pastrami. I ordered steelhead lentil salad. Mine was beautifully plated, tasty, and filling. Accompanied by the Rhône Chateau Ollieux Romania, it was a perfect afternoon meal. We were so busy yakking that we barely noticed the lunch crowd emptying the dining room. When we asked our server if we were keeping her, she graciously invited us to stick around for as long as we wanted. The chanterelle pasta was in desperate need of some salt (which wasn't on table) and the "award winning" Gold rush pizza was meh. Could've used some red pepper flakes or something to break up the richness of the cheese. There are so many good restaurants on College ave that I probably won't come back. read more

Wood-fired pizza with a great wine selection! Popped in for 'linner' after work on a Friday and grabbed seats at the bar. They have an excellent wine list, and my friend and I enjoyed sampling a few before deciding on a glass of rosé and Pinot noir. We ordered the funghi pizza to share and it had a great crust; thin and chewy with a slight char from the oven. We also ordered their french dip sandwich to share, and were so full we ended up taking their housemade chips to-go. Would definitely repeat the experience.
