We have had Don from ACMD out to our home three times in the past 8 years. The first time was to fix our AC, simply replaced the capacitor. Second time was to confirm our heater was working OK. And then just the other day we had him check both the heater and to do some AC maintenance. Our family has used Don, and at times, more recently, his son, for nearly twenty years. Last November (2018), I called to have our heating checked and serviced. Don failed to show for an appointment, and when I called to inquire about the missed appointment, he unloaded a heap of excuses: employee who left his firm to deal with his wife whom he believed was cheating; only one truck available; the need to deal with 'emergency problems;' issues with HIS wife, too many requests for service --- you get the idea. He also sniped in our November 2018 conversation, that my late husband was not always "on top of maintenance issues." I replied that I was now at the helm...and was seeking service. WELL, our home did not receive ANY service last fall/winter. YET, in the same time frame (November 2018) before I knew we were about to be screwed by Don, I referred a friend on the West side for a MAJOR heating issue, and Don was able to address and remedy her situation to the tune of thousands of dollars... Sooooo, flash forward to this week: Don scheduled an appointment on Monday (6/10) to be at our home Wednesday between 10 and noon to service our air conditioning unit. At 12:30, I called and inquired why no one had arrived OR called with an explanation for a delay. Don seemed 'surprised' I didn't get his call saying his company was only handling 'emergencies' in this heat wave, not maintenance services. When I explained that this seems a repeat of last November, Don responded that my request was for 'maintenance,' and not for a problem. I explained that we do, in fact, have a problem: when we turn on the AC, the temperature increases! SORRY! He began arguing with me semantically about what our home needs as far as remedying our situation. At almost 11 PM last night, the house temp was 87; outside it was 64! Don assured me he would squeeze us in today, Thursday, to address our problem. It's nearly noon and I've heard nothing from him! Not trusting his "assurance," I hedged bets and contacted another company which, very professionally, scheduled our home! No excuses, no drama, no BS. Our days with Don are done... Don't tempt fate. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY this company is very shady they take advantage of Seniors citizens and anyone they can.. the owner let's his employees use his contractors license to buy ac equipment and install it.. I had them install a new ac and heater they wanted cash only and of course I should have known better but I am a senior citizen and not as sharp as I use to be.. so the heater didn't work 2 days after install so I called the person that installed the unit and he came out 4 different times for the same reason and couldn't fix the noise but tired to sell new ac ducks then I called the owner Don Greif and he said he will come out and see what he could do to the next week spoke to owner Don 3 time in a week he would call me when he's on his way and still no call from the owner Don Greit 2 months later... so I has another ac company come and repair a brand new unit he fix the problem so now $800 later my heater is working and said the installation was done wrong and it will cost my another $ 4750 to make the installation safe ... so DO NOT TRUST ACMD OWNER DON GREIF AND SHADY TECHNICIAN KYLE KISER.... Long overdue review! I have been using ACMD for the past 20 years. Recently they replaced my 35 year old heat/air combo unit on the roof. They are THE MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE team in the industry. The installation was stress-free and I have since recommended them to several of my neighbors. Today I had my summer Preventive maintenance check done. On the hottest day of the year my AC took a dump. I called 30 guys before I finally found Joe at ACMD. This was already after 6 pm and he was at my house by 6:25. No extra charge. He inspected the unit, figured out the problem and walked me through step by step what was wrong. He didn't try and upsell me anything. He fixed the unit, checked for leaks, there were none except a loose screw, recharged it and it works perfect. The price was fair and the work excellent. They are coming back to do some more work next week. I have been screwed in the past by other AC companies, no names mentioned but it rhymes with Dike Liamond, so I always am very cautious when it comes to AC repair. This is the demand letter we sent him last year. To date, no repayment, and only early on left voice messages that he was going to repay (late 2018 and early 2019. We have not heard back since this following demand letter and not even a partial payment. "Don It is now Sunday 2/10/19 at 11:00 am This is a demand phone call. I am also sending it via text and e-mail.. Joan and I made a business deal with you before Thanksgiving last year. You partially complied but left out a major component of the deal. We have had excuse after excuse as to why you have not finished the job. This is a demand that you finish the job by Tomorrow Monday, 2/11/19 by 5:00pm period. No excuses. Joan and I both have had chronic eye and sinus problems and have increased heating and cooling costs due to the intake of unfiltered plenum air. We are 100% not accepting any more excuses. Give them to your other clients. In addition, we loaned you $2000 as a personal loan. You failed to keep your oral agreement with paying that back. You never even initiated a simple phone call to thank us for helping you with this loan. Your Son and I had a conversation. He is a wonderful guy. ACMD came out and installed a brand new ac unit with all new duct work. Don's bid was the lowest of 5 bids and we felt the expertise was there. The work was done quickly and neatly. Since then Don's son has come out to make a small adjustment which took a little longer than i would have liked but because the weather has been so hot this summer, they were delayed in coming out. Our air conditioner died. I called 2 other companies. One had a two week wait for service and the second one said someone would call back, but they never did. Don came over immediately and got the a/c running for much less than I expected. I have some more issues to handle that are not emergencies. I was not pressured to do them now, so I will definitely call ACMD soon to come back. I appreciate not being scammed so that a company can drain every last penny out of me. I did not feel that way after Don worked on my a/c. The other companies I called had 5 stars on Yelp and many more reviews. Apparently, they are all too busy and aren't concerned about returning calls promptly. ACMD installed my central unit 4 1/2 years ago and I have not had a single problem with it. On this day one of the hottest of the month my air conditioning goes out. I called to even see if they were open because it's Saturday and the voice mail picked up, before I was finished with leaving a message Don was calling me back. Our AC stopped working last night - and we were dreading going without AC especially in our bedroom which is upstairs where the heat rises. Not surprisingly, when I called several other AC repair services, they were booked. Don with ACMD, however, was kind enough to squeeze us in even though he already had a full schedule. After a quick inspection, he replaced the capacitor in our unit - a very quick and minor fix (much to my relief). He was pleasant, efficient and honest.
