I've tried to contact Ackerman multiple times through support and sales. After multiple tries I could get through to text help and they sent my info to a sales person. The sales person never called. I got in touch with text support again after multiple tries, finally a sales person called my wife. I called him back to see if we could get one alarm chime moved. He said he'd call me back. Over a week and he hasn't contacted us. Called him today and left a message. Didn't hear back. This is not acceptable. While the monthly pricing was favorable, the installation amount was a bit much. For an unmounted keypad, 3 doors, 2 windows and a doorbell was over $800 in installation fees and all the tech did was stick sensors on the windows. Not even 48 hrs later, one of the sensors fell off the window and will not stick back on So now it's not protected. Also, the app has only worked 3 of the 5 days I've had it so I called back and they said that the tech can't come back out for another month. Ackerman has been giving me the runaround for years. The system that my account was linked to was monitored by radio, which is now obsolete. I was still charged for services not rendered. When I attempted to cancel my account, I was told that I had a large balance left on my account. I should have fought the charge, as being charged for a service that is not given is fraudulent. However, I had just lost a family member to cancer and was trying to deal with a lot and didn't have the wherewithal to fight. The "customer care" representative should have had the integrity to cancel out the charges and close out my account like I asked him to. I then tried to cancel again this past July and was let to believe that it was all taken care of. I sold my house and moved and just now received ANOTHER bill. Customer care was not helpful. I don't even feel good giving this company 1 star, but zero stars was not an option. Unless you want this alarm company to charge your credit card for LIFE after you end services with them, DO NOT sign up for their monitoring services. Here is my experience: This company continues to charge me for alarm service that was cancelled 9 months ago despite multiple calls to cancel it after my contract expired. I moved away from Atlanta in August 2017 due to a job change. Although I had been told by Ackerman at the time I initially began service in August 2016 that in instances of a job change out of state they would let you out of your service contract, they refused to allow me out of my two year alarm service contract when I had to move for work. I patiently waited the additional year and marked my calendar for the date on which my two year alarm service ended. I called Ackerman Security on 7/17/19 to cancel my service starting on 9/1/2019 and followed up the request by confirming via email with their customer service representative, Vincent Caldwell. I thought this would end my recurring payments with Ackerman. Unfortunately, it took me until November 19, 2019 to realize that Ackerman was still charging me for services at a house I no longer lived in for services that I had already cancelled 4 months earlier. That day, I called their customer service line again and spoke with a woman named Ashley Horne regarding my frustration that they continued to charge me and I forwarded her my prior correspondence with Vincent showing that my service should have been cancelled. She said that Vincent had not processed my cancellation request, but she assured me she would take care of the issue. I received an email from Ashley stating that services had again been cancelled on 11/19/19 and that I would only be refunded for the months of October and November in the amount of $74.78. I thought the issue was resolved and waited for my refund, but it never came. I was charged again in December 2019 for Ackerman Security services that I had cancelled. So I had to call Ackerman a third time on 12/9/19 requesting not only that my account stop being charged, but also asking for the refund that was due-- on that day amounting to $112.17. Again, by email Ashley assured me my refund would get processed and all future charges cancelled. It is now March 2020-- nine months after my initial request to stop service and 20 months after I moved away from Atlanta and as recently as this month Ackerman is STILL charging my credit card on a monthly basis. I even called my credit card company to cancel the card number that Ackerman had on file and got a new one from the same credit card company, but somehow Ackerman was able to continue to charge me on my new card number with Chase. The Credit Card company says they can't keep Ackerman from charging me and Ackerman refuses to cancel charges. So now I've submitted a complaint to the Atlanta BBB to step in. This is the very worst consumer fraud possible. This is a company that falsely advertises, makes it impossible for you to stop charges and is likely doing this to multiple customers unknowingly by continuing to charge monthly for services that have previously been cancelled. They are likely doing this to keep their business afloat. As I write this review today 3/26/19, I have been on hold for 30 minutes waiting to talk to their retention department about this matter for a 4th time. Of course, they make your wait as long as possible with the hope that you give up and simply allow them to continue to falsely charge you for services you cancelled. Ackerman Security should be shut down. This type of business practice is not only misleading, but is also illegal. I switched to Ackerman from ADT recently. I never felt like ADT provided the value for what they charged. When I switched to Ackerman I went from paying 60 dollars a month to 30. Victor my sales person came to our house to make sure our system could taken over by Ackerman and confirmed it was not an issue. A few days later Adam came out to complete the take over and it took about 45 minutes. He worked well with me showing me what he was doing, checking to make sure everything was working properly and was a good communicator. So far my experience has been drastically better than what I had with ADT. I am thankful for the switch. read more

We've had Akerman for over 4 years and in our experience they're wonderful until you have any sort of difficulty with your system. Service calls are $89 per visit and equipment must be paid for and fixed on your wallet. What a scam! They provide a "service plans" (which says a lot about their service) to help mitigate costs but the monthly charges don't make it worth it. We've now had a no communication error for the past two months so we are essentially paying for service which is not functioning. Terms and conditions contain hefty cancelation fees so they provide no support knowing that you are responsible for the full term of your contract anyway. BEWARE when starting services they DO NOT provide the terms and conditions upfront. You sign on an iPad and then they email you the terms and conditions afterward. You have 48 hrs to cancel after actually receiving the terms or you are responsible for the full term of the contract agreed to. Not a customer center company and they take no responsibility for their equipment or services after installation. Save yourself the headache. Thank God other alarm companies will buy out your contract to save you from the hassle. I would not recommended Akerman to anyone. read more

I finally decided to cancel these people after getting a better deal with another company. But Ackerman continues to steal my money even after I paid the contract cancellation fee! On October 11, 2019, I called Ackerman Security Systems to cancel my service with them because I had already signed up with another company. Upon cancellation, I was informed that because I was still under contract, I had to pay a balance of $893.17. I agreed to this charge and on October 12, 2019 that amount was deducted. I was then mailed a cancellation form, that I had to send in to them in order to complete the cancellation. I filled out that form and mailed later that month. However, I just checked my credit card statement and they have continuously been charging me $21.32 even though my account was cancelled with them last YEAR and I had already paid the cancellation fee!!! I have already disputed the four charges with my credit card company and filed a complaint with the BBB complete with documentation. I am now looking into what else can be done to recover my money and to stop these people from charging me for a service I don't even use. AVOID this company, they are theives! read more

Bought a home with an existing Ackerman security system that was deactivated. However, the control panel continuously beeped throughout the day and night, despite not having an account. Finally at my wits end, I called to ask for assistance on how to silence it, but was bullied into either paying $100 for a technician to come out or get no help at all. Really? To tell us how to turn the thing off? The rep on the phone even claimed that since we no longer have an account with them, the control panel isn't a "part of their equipment". Be aware of a ridiculous hidden contract requirement!! I just called to cancel my monitoring because I am monitoring via cameras I have installed. I have been a customer for 7 years and was set up for automatic bill pay. Even though I had no notification (Ackerman claims they emailed me and snail mailed me, but I've never seen it), apparently the contract automatically renews for a year based on the initial contract, so even though it's November, I have to wait until next August to cancel and pay well over $100 for the remaining time that I don't want to use. I even read that they require 60 days notice for cancellation and that numerous other customers have had the same problem with attempting to cancel their contracts. Be sure to watch for your contract renewal so you don't get stuck like me paying a big bill for nothing. read more

We no longer wanted their services and there was no contract. They harassed and harassed my mom that was diagnosed with cancer right after my father's passing. After putting this out on Yelp they did stop harassing, SO I THOUGHT!!! My mom just received a bill for $107.49 yesterday!!! ACKERMAN!!! YOU ARE SHAMEFUL!!! Complained about the system for years and they sent technicians out more than 4 times but the security coverage isn't consistent with their older equipment . App doesn't work either. Just found out Ackerman updated to a new system over a year ago and no one contacted me with all the problems we have been having for years! This is a warning not to use Ackerman Security. I have had Ackerman for years and like everyone with negative feedback, if you ever have to cancel for any reason after the contract date, you basically need a lawyer. Their model is to auto-renew your contract annually and you have to pay for that year even if you move or if your panel no longer functions. My panel stopped working and they didnt even call to find out why it stopped communicating. They will only replace the panel if you renew the contract for 3 years!!!!! Bad Service, bad service model, and basically not worth even trying out. They had me print out a cancellation form to fill out to sign and send to them via USPS and pay for the remaining of the year. In today's technology, They will NOT accept forms via emails. They're process is very archaic and will make it as hard as possible to cancel. Doesn't matter if you're a loyal company for years, they're contract model will kill you. Be aware what you sign with them. There are lots of good companies out there with better technology and contract support. I recommend finding a company with better technology and support. I have been an Ackerman customer since 2016. Today (March 19, 2020) I attempted to cancel my service which I no longer need in my apartment because I have moved into a home that comes with its own security. I was told that it will cost me $431.88 for the remaining of the year of $35.99 a month on a NO monitoring system and I am not even keeping the equipment. Ackerman is wrong treating there customer with no respect. The manager - Crystal would not even consider a reduce amount since I don't need their equipment or Ackerman can come pick it up or give me to option to drop it off to them. I want my service canceled immediately and no payment if you are not monitoring my property. Ackerman makes it incredibly difficult to terminate services after receiving 8 years of payments from me from 3 different locations. It is also impossible to get a friendly and logistical person on the phone without holding for several minutes. Shame on your Ackerman. I will give Ackerman 2 stars for the monitoring services ONLY. read more

My biggest complaint is the lack of knowledge of everyone who answers the phone. Even the technical support department seems to know nothing. All anyone can do is schedule a technician to come out. Half the time they don't know anything either. I've wasted an incredible amount of time trying to get a properly working video doorbell. I had someone come to fix the original one, he couldn't fix it. I had it replaced with the newest model. It's not recording until people leave the sight line which makes it useless for identifying who came by. And today's technician could only suggest going and buying a Wi-Fi booster. Why couldn't technical support tell me that on the phone? Still no guarantee that it will work. GET A REAL TECHNICAL SUPPORT DEPARTMENT. One that can actually help people over the phone. SENDING OUT A TECHNICIAN SHOULD BE YOUR LAST OPTION NOT FIRST. I wasted a week not to mention my day waiting just to be told to go to Walmart. That doesn't count all the time waiting to get to this point. Build a knowledge database and populate it with every possible issue someone might call about. Then populate each issue with everything a person could try to resolve that issue without a technician. It will save you money on sending out technicians and save your customers time waiting for a technician, and save you from getting bad reviews. read more

We have used them in every apartment we have had in the last 3 years...and apparently every time you move, they restart your contact (without telling you!) AND charge you to move (after you have already purchased the equipment and service. If there is a way for them to charge you, they will! So, now you want to cancel...watch out because you need to buy out the contract (which they don't advise you of). You will get a rude call from collections threatening to take you to court (within 10 days of cancelling!). Let's talk about the quality of the "monitoring"...you get an automated call if your alarm goes off; you can hang up and NOTHING HAPPENS! No call back, no police, no follow up ever! If you kill your wifi or power, the alarm doesn't work - they do not sell you a backup battery or even recommend one. The alarm does NOT have cellular capabilities. Supposedly they expect you to check your equipment monthly for service (WHAT??). They need to seriously step up their game and customer service. There are better companies out there! STAY AWAY FROM ACKERMAN! NO WONDER THEY KEEP LOSING BUSINESS AND NOT GROWING!!! I would put 0 stars if I could I got Ackerman when I moved in to my house about three and a half years ago. The sales people were really nice and I was told that I had to stay on a 3-year contract so I was not responsible to pay for the equipment they upgraded me to, and then I was told after that I could cancel any time - LIES! They auto-renew your contract for a full year without telling you. Then you call to cancel, nobody mentions this to you, but they make it so hard for you to cancel, they beg you to stay with them and lower your price (but there is a catch, you have to sign a new contract for another year). They raise your voice to intimidate you when you try to cancel too and then they simply don't care and want to charge you a ridiculous amount of money to get out of the contract early. When I asked, why don't you bother sending me a renewal notice so I can decide whether to stay with you or not, and their answer was oh no m'am we don't do that. So, in summary, GO USE ANY OTHER SECURITY SYSTEM EXCEPT THESE ONES THAT TIE YOU TO A LONG TERM CONTRACT, SPECIALLY WHEN THEY DON'T SEND YOU A NEW ONE. It's virtually impossible to cancel service. My rating for Ackerman's service has dwindled from 5 stars to 2 stars in the last couple of weeks because of all of the hoops they force you to blindly jump backwards through in order to actually, finally, completely cancel service. I just want to cancel my service. It's not personal. I just don't need it anymore. First, no one you call can help with such a request...someone has to call you back. Then no one returns your call. Then you finally get through and get connected to someone, and they refuse to cancel. They'll offer free service for a few months. They'll offer different levels of service. But they won't cancel the service. I just want to cancel!!! I wanna quit the gym!!! Ok, so finally they are convinced, but no, they STILL won't cancel your service. They will email you a cancellation form, that you must print, fill out in pen, and MAIL back to them using an envelope and stamp like it's 1990, not 2020. I can complete the form and email it back to you, right? Nope, that won't work. So eventually you mail it back, and who's to say it won't get "lost in the mail" and all the while they keep charging your credit card for the monthly payment. Lesson learned. If you need to cancel your service with Ackerman, it's far easier to simply cancel your credit card, or file a disputed charge complaint with your credit card company, than it is to simply disconnect the service with Ackerman. What kind of company behaves this way? One that places zero value on customer loyalty, I suppose. Because if I had been able to cancel online or over a phone call like literally any other service I pay for, I'd recommend Ackerman to you, but unless you intend to never cancel, I cannot recommend Ackerman. read more

I used this company for several years for my security systems when I bought a house that already had service with them. They weren't great, but they were acceptable. However, I called them 2 years ago in February and asked them to cancel my service and cease my autopays when I put a tenant in the house. They requested a letter to that effect, which I mailed to them. A new service was connected to the house in the tenant's name. In the past couple of weeks, I saw a withdrawal for them for my service. In checking, they have been taking out autopays every month. Yes, I missed it. However, on contacting them to ask for at least a partial refund, they basically said, "Too bad" and refused.
