Poor customer service and communication. Scheduled for 8AM-12PM appointment, tech showed up on time. The tech had no idea they were activating a pre-existing system even though I spoke with the representative prior about this. I told the tech that I needed to call the representative and sort it out, or if they could just add in the additional contacts if needed, (was told by the tech that they do not have any additional equipment; I am the first appointment how do you not have any?) Told the tech that they could just install what I have first otherwise I may need to cancel. Proceeded to talk to the Rep on the phone and tech leaves. I am VERY unhappy with their customer service or lack of one. I have been on hold to speak to an agent for over an hour. I even sent them a text (which they recommended to get in touch with them faster) but didn't get a response. Interesting though that they are very responsive when they want you to upgrade your system, but when you really need them, they are nowhere to be found! I'll be switching. I had been a customer of Ackerman Security for over 10 years. All was good as long as they had automatic deposit from my credit card. I move the beginning of March 2021 and of course no longer needed their service. That's when Ackerman showed their true colors. I spoke with Ashely March 3rd to tell her I wanted to discontinue the service because I sold my home. I was told I had to fill out a form and send it back certified mail to the "customer loyalty department". I didn't understand this one but did it anyway. After I received my sign certification two weeks later I called to make sure everything was complete in closing the account. I spoke with Shenela on March 16th, at 3:45 PM. Shenala, told me that that "there was no outstanding balance and she would speak with Ashley and if there is any problem Ashley would get back with me. I heard nothing until I received a collect notice from PDQ, Services, INC. this is apparently the company Ackerman Security deals with when they send their charge-offs. Granted, I heard nothing back since I call March 16, 2021. Now my account is has been charge off? So, I called today (April 28, 2021) spoke with Tya first who told me that Ashely was off today. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred to Reginald in billing. Wow, this guy was unprofessional and as rude as they come. He started yelling at me, telling me to contact the collection company and refused to give me any information on why this account was charged off after I was told there was no outstanding balance and even hung up the phone on me. After being hung up on, I called back and got Tiffany on the phone. Although, she was sympathetic she stated that she spoke to Ashely (who was supposed to be off today) and Ashley stated that the amount owed was correct. And there's nothing they can do. That's it? Please take note, of what others and myself have written about this company. I was a customer for over 10 years, never missed a payment and was treated worse than a dog. My next contact is the Better Business Bureau. To file a complaint. From what I've read and my experience Ackerman has forgotten how they keep a good reputation with it's customers. read more

Called to cancel in early December. Was told it was cancelled. We disconnected our system and installed a different company system. Removed all Ackerman keypads and removed power from main unit. January and February charged for service. Called March 2nd only to be told no it's still showing an active acct. Please explain how you are monitoring a DISCONNECTED system? Wouldn't that show offline or not connected. Awesome service right? Was supposed to get an email yesterday so that I can cancel service again but nothing has shown on the verified email you have on file. Nothing in spam folder either. Our actual technician, Mark, was amazing. He was quick, clean and very knowledgeable. The sales rep, Demetrius, came out & was kind but did not examine our existing equipment in detail and did not give us or the technician the correct information. As a result, we had to come out of additional money that was unexpected. Mark called Demetrius from our home and Demetrius seemed very nonchalant about his mistake. Even if a discount or some type of benefit from his miscommunication could happen, that's fine. I would have at least to have personally heard from Demetrius for a full explanation of what to expect and quote frankly, an apology. read more

Ackerman Security is a company with policies that are made to make sense to only them. I called to cancel my policy in October because I was moving to an apartment temporarily while I was working on securing another home. The sale rep told me to hold the account for a few months for no charge and then reactivate at the new location. I was with them for six years at my old resident and thought I would give them a shot. I got a bill for the time it was on hold and I called to find out why. They told me to discard, but I thought I would cancel because the hold period was not enough time for me. Unbeknownst to me, they renewed a contract (they advertise no contracts) while I was on hold for these months and asked for a 300+ cancellation fee. After I told them I was not told about this when I called to cancel and then cohersed into putting on hold they dropped it to 160. I should have just cancelled. They knew what they were doing when they told me this without disclosing the other information. The "loyalty" department rep basically didn't care for what had transpired and so here I am stuck with a 160 dollar bill for nothing. I could have gave it to a more just cause then this greedy security company. Won't be going with Ackerman anymore! read more

STAY AWAY!!! Probably one of the worst overall customer service experiences I've had. We called to change the name on the account and come to find out the house system had not been communicating Ackerman's central command for a few years. They didn't find it necessary to inform but had no problem charging us a bill each month. We cancelled our service had the system removed and they have still been billing us for the past 3 months. And if you need to talk to someone there good luck - they dont make customers a priority what so ever. read more

Update! I just got a RENEWAL notice of an *automatic* renewal on this account. AN ACCOUNT I HAVE CANCELLED MULTIPLE TIMES. It was sent to my new home, somehow, a place where we have never used Ackerman. This despite the customer service department telling me this issue would be resolved. I have requested to cancel this service at least four times now and I dispute every credit card charge. Good thing I got this notice, though, because it reminded me to check my credit card. I first used Ackerman Security in the home I was living in from 2014 - 2019. I signed a 2 year contract initially. When I moved in 2019, I contacted Ackerman about switching my alarm service to my new home. Without seeing what I was signing very clearly on the tablet the Ackerman Sales Rep was using, I got signed up for a new 5 year contract. I didn't fully realize this until I got ready to move again in 2020. But, this time I was moving into a rental house. As a tenant, I was not permitted to add an alarm system. And, the buyer of the house we were moving from was a real estate investor and not interested in taking over our Ackerman contract. I tried explaining this to Ackerman. They were not sympathetic to my situation. I submitted their cancellation request form without a due on contract payment included. They hired a debt collector to collect payment. Ackerman Security 1. Did not have my phone number properly placed in the system. I'm not sure If the numbers were transposed, or what the deal was. 2. Has dispatched police to my home several times for false alarm. DUE TO CALLING A PHONE NUMBER THAT IS NOT MINE, I DIDN'T KNOW POLICE WERE DISPATCHED. 3. Cost me over $600 in false alarm ticket fees with the City of Atlanta and Crywolf services because I wasn't home or had no idea the police were even dispatched! 4. Put a $300 credit on my account which DOES NOT help me at all. I'd rather pay my bill and THEY pay the City of Atlanta the $600 they caused for calling the wrong number. 5. Had the audacity to auto renew my account after all my complaints, court documents and request for cancellation. My advice to you is to take this form and send it in every month until your contract is complete, so they CAN NOT trap you with the 60 day trick like they do every one else. Paid over $2K for new home security system equipment. They were not able to install the keyless entry pad on our front door, so I asked them to refund that portion of the charge. They still have not issued the refund after more than 10 weeks, even though my sales rep claims a check was sent. They don't seem to have any problem taking the monthly monitoring charge out of our account for some reason. Also, the first time we tried to activate the system as were going away for a short vacation, it would not allow us to turn on the alarm. We called customer service and there was a 40 minute wait time. We needed to leave, so we just went without the new system being switched on. read more

the worst security system I have ever used! if you have any disputes. left my area without notice and basically told me "sucks for you" when I want to transfer my account to a new owner. Prior to my move, I called ahead to ensure my account is transferrable, the rep said it is and all the buyer has to do is call the company. the buyer called and told "no new accounts in that State". For the next 48 hours, I have been given the runaround by employees and a supposed supervisor who doesn't exist in my opinion. Disputes were pushed aside even if Ackerman claimed fault (written in an email so there is proof), I provided the information and then I get an email back stating "we did everything correct. best regards." Again, avoid Ackerman, and if you are using a security monitoring company just bar your doors if you see a door to door salesman on your porch. Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Nobody ever gets on the phone, everything is by voice mail. They have a chat feature that doesn't work. Finally someone called me back about my service problem. We are getting multiple error messages and beeps that tell of faulty sensors, and the system can't be armed. The Ackerman remedy. A service tech can come out in 14 days between the hours of 12 and 4pm. I hope nothing happens and I hope the alarms doesn't go off in the middle of the night. Ackerman's response to my inquiry. The house I purchased already had Ackerman security equipment installed, so I wanted to see what their service offered. They were very professional and offered me a variety of packages. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because I did feel that during the initial consultation, they were trying to upsell me new equipment. It turns out the equipment in the house was perfectly fine and is compatible with a variety of smart home equipment. It just needed some minor updates. Well, after reading reviews here, it appears this is a frequent issue: When you decide to cancel, they try to rob you. Wow. And we had no issue for many years, not even a false alarm. Yet now we have found a monitoring company for a lot less (Ackerman kept raising the monthly monitoring fee until we were paying nearly $50.00!) and Ackerman is making it IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. THANK GOODNESS we paid online and not through automatic drafts each month or I'm sure we'd have to sue them (from what others are saying in their reviews). How many times to you need to to talk, text, email a "customer support" team to cancel a service?? Apparently, 5-6 times is not enough. We have been told we would receive documents via email to sign and return in order to cancel. We still have not received those. We continuously receive automated calls saying that our system is down (duh! We are with another company now) but Ackerman continues to make it impossible in what should be a simple and positive process. You'd think they'd want gods word of mouth referrals but nope! Won't come from me. I'd give a zero if I could! UPDATE: We canceled our service and completed the form to cancel after MUCh headache and WE ARE STILL RECEIVING BOTH PAPER BILLS AND E-Bills! When Ackerman Security appeared on my doorstep. I informed him that I was a renter and was sure I wouldn't be in the house for 36 months (Length of contract). I was assured by the representative that I could transfer the service to wherever I move, and that there would be no penalties if I moved to a non service area. Fast forward 1 year later and I've moved. They don't offer service in my new location. Yet, they want to charge me $1073 cancellation fee. The contract doesn't even have a section addressing cancellation after 10 days of commencement. Yes, I should have read more thoroughly and not took the word of the salesman at my door. We switched from Ackerman to ADT due to lack of customer service response. However, since we discontinued our service at least 2 years ago, Ackerman continue to draft our checking $26.90 for monitoring. We receive alarm calls, we don't respond, Ackerman doesn't dispatch anyone. We have tried everything, but the account is not closed. If you call, put on hold, told to leave number and someone will call back, NOT. Automated message says, chat. Chat and email doesn't work for billing questions!!!
