I have been through hell and back with Ackerman Security. Since my purchase on Jan. 22, 2018, My surveillance camera system that monitors the outside front and side of my home has not worked. I have been given the run around over and over again. I've had several technician visits scheduled where the tech was a no show, never called or texted. I have a serious situation with a stalker and a harasser for which is the reason I purchased Ackerman security equipment. He is very dangerous!! I have a blackened video of when he attacked me on my phone! I could only record as much as possible since he had me on the ground with my arms and legs restrained. This experience occurred right where I park my car!! Also the exact place where one surveillance camera is located to capture footage. I have contacted Ackerman MANY MANY times. The supervisor ignores me. During the last visit the took my Hik Vision box that controls the camera system. The manager assured me it would be returned in a week or so. Apparently the box had the incorrect software and I also did not have the updated app on my iPhone! None of this was caused by me!! This is entirely Ackerman Securities fault. Now they are ignoring me once again because I'm expecting EXACTLY what I deserve, and that is a full refund that allows me to keep the equipment. After I wrote a negative review on their Facebook page someone FINALLY contacted me. Grant it I'd been waiting two months with no response from anyone regarding receiving my Hik Vision box back with the updated and corrected software on it so that for the FIRST time I purchased this product it would actually work. Literally in a day of writing my negative review on the fcbk page they all the sudden were able to schedule me with a tech visit like within the next two days!! If it were that easy why did they not just arrange this for me at all...seeing that I called almost everyday for an appt and it was ignored. I'm pretty sure I have a law suite case against Ackerman Security! I have all court documents to prove my peace order against my harrasser whom still continues to come around. Other tenants have complained to my landlord about him putting me in a situation where my landlord said if this persists I could be evicted on the basis of interruption to other tenants. As of now Ackerman is just ignoring me. I've received no phone calls or anything dealing with my request. When they sent the tech out I turned him away because I deserve a full refund and I don't want Ackerman assuming they have corrected the problem getting me a technician out ASAP. This does not solve the problem. You pay them to provide security to your home. If my camera systems worked since I originally purchased them; I would have SOOo Much evidence to have my harasser locked up for violating a peace order and also physically assaulting me!! I'm a 100% disabled veteran. I have been treated EXTREMELY POOR by Ackerman. Heir customer service is terrible; their ability to solve customer problems is tremendously terrible. Being I'm a 100% disabled veteran I have access to free council assistance through a lawyer. I could present this situation with evidence to a lawyer. It's like they are just forgetting about me and just saying "Whatever!" They alreAdy issued me a $500 refund but that was owed to technician appts that were a no show. It's happened about 4 times. Each time they schedule you in 4 hour increments. So each appt day I sat home for 4 hours waiting for the technician. Something must be done about this situation. I am 100% innocent when it comes to causing the equipment to not work. This situation has caused emotional, physical, mental and psychological damage to me. Not to include the distress I've been under with trying to get my equipment to work! I deserve, w/out a doubt a full refund and to be able to keep properly working equipment that monitors the outside of my home to have footage to show cops. I have had Ackerman for several years now. The sales person Antwan was EPIC! Went above and beyond, or just did his job! He left as soon as my account was set up a few weeks later. For the short time, all concerns and issues he HANDLE hands down! Ever since then, they have been the worst! Rude service techs, from day one! Installed my system and left a window open with a sensor on it! Went off on Ackerman customer service when he had to come back, to the point I was uncomfortable in my own home! House being broken I to or alarm triggered and Ackerman not calling me or even knowing what alarm was triggered in there system. Taking money out of my account (MIND YOU MY CARD W AS NOT ON DIRECT PAY NEVER!) They kept trying to pass time, because the new and admitted it was not on auto pay! They blew me off for 9 months and then gave 3 free months of service. Fast forward 11/21 after 3 days in my new place there was an incident in my area that had me frantic. I wasn't going to use Ackerman but decided it's the quickest way to feel safe. It's now 6 days from the set up and I don't even have an install, wit an already hard wired system. I told them I surely don't want to be on a contract, they have not made me feel safe and I had to purchase 3 cameras to go on my home! The tech said I had to pay money and was putting me on a contract, bit you can clearly listen to the recording that says I don't want to be! They agreed, charged my card, and never provided the service , set the emails for the to esign, and today a supervisor, very nice called and didn't even know my name! Or have correct information about my service. They need to train their employees, not all are bad. But from the Management to the reps, they are rude, hang up on you, very apathetic & lethargic, make excuses for others that mistreat you when all calls are recorded, (ie- because they know them!) I have asked for YEARS to talk to CORPORATE AND THEY NEVER LET ME! So if anyone from the CORPORATE OFFICE HIGHER UP SEE THIS PLEASE PLEASE REPLY! IM STILL WAITING FOR A MANAGER TO CALL! At least the tech that came out this time, took the blame for dropping the ball and apologized, nice guy, but it's about my families safety and Ackerman DON'T put that FIRST! ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY! AND THEY SURELY TOOK A PAYMENT I DIDNT WANT TO GIVE AND HAVE NOT PROVIDED THE SERVICE THEY SAID THEY WOULD! And only calling now because I called them to let them know they sent no one out, took money, sent no emails and did NOT have the customer service to call and say, sorry it will be a few more days. ZERO STAR RATING -- looking at all of the low ratings, I can confirm all the issues customers are posting and complaining about are accurate. Ackerman doesn't care anything at all about their employee's morale level which would result in better customer service if ppl actually enjoyed coming to work and wanting to be there for customer's needs. No one is open to suggestions that would enable the improvement of service to customers or take accountability for the mess that goes on in the inside of the company. Management only cares about sucking up to ppl who threaten to cancel service so they can offer you all sorts of nonsense to keep taking your money as a customer instead of taking the time to do better so ppl want to remain customers and willingly work for the company as an employee. I doubt if more ppl knew how poorly this company is being handled and managed they wouldn't sign up. No one wants to be accountable for anything and employees are harrassed constantly by managers. It's amazing that they have been able to function as a company for as long as they have. They can't keep enough ppl employed bc most quit due to all the problems on the inside, if they're not fired which means a constant revolving door and a new training class of new hires every couple of WEEKS. The training period for new workers is a joke and ppl are so confused and lost when its over no wonder the service ratings are terrible bc no one ever knows what the hell they are doing. When customers are on hold for ridiculous amounts of time it's bc there are never enough ppl to answer the phone, especially to handle alarms so if you're a customer your safety is in jeopardy when alarms are not processed in a timely manner---WHICH IS THE SOLE PURPOSE OF HAVING AN ALARM SYSTEM!!!. This really is a trash ass company that only wants to think they are the best but doesn't actually do anything to be better. I wouldn't suggest this company to my worst enemy. I am writing this review today, to highlight my great experience with Ackerman Security. On my last experience with them, I worked with Jim. He was such a knowledgeable person and a very polished professional. Ackerman was recently recommended to me as a good security company. So, I called to schedule an appointment to find out what Ackerman had to offer Jim was the rep sent to consult with me. He was thorough in his presentation and provided several valuable suggestions. Several Mondays after my after my installation, I called Jim with what I viewed as a real problem. I was having new windows installed the following Wednesday and had no idea how to protect my window security devices. I left a message for him, requesting he call me back and walk me through the process of removing the window alarms. Jim promptly returned my call and offered to help by dropping by and personally assisting me. What a gracious thing to do! ....but thank goodness he dropped by because new problems would develop that day which called for expert attention. Problems I wouldn't have known existed nor been able to resolve alone. To make a long story short, Jim spent close to 3 hours at my house that day. His task wasn't easy as removing and re-sticking magnets. The transmitters had to be removed an remounted an then a problem was detected with the house alarm signal. For some reason, the alarm system just stopped signaling the Ackerman control center. Jim immediately called the Ackerman office and spoke to several people but, no one there knew why the signal wasn't working. He spent hours but he refused to give up until the problem was solved. He even helped me clean up the mess left by the window installers!!! I sure wish there were more people like Jim and companies like Ackerman - committed to excellence! read more

My home was broken into so I decided to get a security system. Purchased the latest system from Honeywell, installed it and set it up. Called Ackerman Security and the person I spoke with stated that I would not have to sign a contract because I had purchased my own equipment. When the salesman got to my home, he stated that they required a contract, and that I had been misinformed. I agreed to a 1 year contract. A few months later I went to log into my Ackerman account and realized I had forgotten to type in my password, but was able to access my account and disable my system. I contacted Ackerman and explained that the password function was disabled on my account. They said that the problem had to be with the computer I was using. So I called my son and asked him to try and log into my Ackerman account with no password. He was able to log into my Ackerman account and disable the monitoring of my security system with no password. I called Ackerman back and explained the problem again. They stated that I would have to talk to the CEO about this. I explained the problem to the CEO and that I have no confidence in Ackerman security, that they obviously are not following industry standards as far as testing and verifying their systems and software. I was told that he wouldn't release me from the contract because I still have to pay for the equipment. Then I explained to him that I had purchased the system from a separate company and that it was my equipment. Finally he agreed to release me from the contract and release my equipment. In my opinion a company has serious problems when the CEO is customer service and the company doesn't follow normal industry software and system testing standards. read more

Today 12/7 I called Ackerman Security to cancel my service and was informed that my contract auto renewed in May 2016 and was informed that there is a 60 day notification requirement to cancel service and that I had to fill out a template to request cancellation. I am still waiting on the email with the template and it's been over an hour. This company is no better than their competitors - ADT, Vivint, etc. I would not recommend their service to anyone. I had spoken with Stephanie back on 1/05/2016 and was going to cancel my service when she informed mw I had a balance due of $120* (basically through May 2016) so I said I would stay until May. I had received an offer from Comcast at $29.99/month for 12 months which included video monitoring and free cameras. Stephanie did not mention that the contract auto renews for 1 year nor did she mention that I had to give a 60 day notice to cancel my service. I guess they have succumbed to the same security company contract trap that they used to brag about not having. They used to brag about $14.99/month with no contract and 3 months free when you signed up. It's interesting to see so many different experiences. Mine has been FAIR. Service issues, Customer Service Agents who are Obviously new... but overall, my monthly is low and I don't have to worry when I'm away. But here are some things you guys SHOULD think of. If your system is going off randomly, something's wrong with the system. NOTHING has a 100% success rate. It happens. Checking your service agreement Before you sign up helps eliminate surprises. If you're not getting help with a regular rep, ask to speak with a supervisor... They get promoted Usually because they understand their field. If you're charged more than you expected, check your paperwork you Signed off on! Can't find it? Well... They gave You a copy for You to keep up with. You want a company to be flawless and to never mishandle your account, well don't mishandle your end of the responsibility. It's tough! I know! We all make a mistake or two. Ackerman, is a licensed company. NO business of that size would risk losing their license to steal $80. Lastly, READ before you sign ANYTHING. I sat and Read my contract and the sales guy just had to wait. He wants a sale? He's gonna be patient. The contract renewal clause is in there. You just had to read what you were agreeing to. Sorry. All things considered, it's fine. I don't know how to build my own alarm system and a call center to watch it for me, so I don't see a lot of room to complain about something that I can't even fathom how it's made. read more

After doing a high level review process for company ratings (BBB), I first called ProtectionOne on the recommendation of my 83 y/o neighbor. The person I spoke with merely stated my "install" would be by me using components sent through the mail. Uh...not real warm and fuzzy with that. I next called Ackerman Security and was immediately called back by their security consultant, Amy Ash. I outlined my security concerns and we made an appointment to discuss further. On the appt date, she was prompt and very professional in explaining my options for securing my condo. She had a demo control panel that I was able to interact with actually setting up user codes, etc. Amy spent a fair amount of time with me answering any question I had. I chose to have the system installed. We set a date to go over paperwork and pick an actual install date and time. All of this was painless. Amy was/is very detailed oriented and provided a very positive experience. Furthermore, the installer, Jason, was on time and did an excellent job. I have read all the reviews here and most of them are quite negative. That being said, I simply have not had any of those complaints...yet. I have even had an interaction with the Ackerman help desk, and the customer agent I spoke with was polite, professional and resolved my problem first time. What can I say? At this posting, I have no bad news to report. It may be an anomaly but we'll see. I will have no qualms readdressing any bumps in the road. read more

Ackerman is the best. I had a below average experience with ADT, but stuck with them for 3 years thinking they were the "best" which came with long hold times, expensive monthly rates, and a very poor install. I contacted ackerman along with a few others when i was ready to buy my first home. My initial call was immediately answered by a real person and i was soon introduced to my sales rep John Curry. We scheduled an onsite consultation and he was on time, knowledgable, friendly, and patient. I would not have made the switch to ackerman without his excellent service. On the day of install, my tech was equally as friendly and knowledgable. The best part was he arrived 5 minutes early, and was honest with my equipment choices without trying to oversell me at the last minute (with ADT my installer was 45min late past the 4 hour window). I was one of the many who got an alarm installed (ADT) following a break in. I realize now how ADT took advantage of me given my sense of urgency. I worked directly with ADT throughout my service and not with any of their subcontractors. Since my ackerman install everything has been great and any issues or phone calls have been immediately addressed. Honestly, I am somewhat glad I started with another company because it has allowed me to apprciate ackerman that much more. I will never use another security company again. Guess how many times it takes Ackerman to properly do an installation? I am up to 5 waiting on a date and time for 6! All for a doorbell camera. Met with salesman on Sept 24. First install scheduled for Oct 13. Discovered that doorbell chime not proper equipment. Told what to get and did as instructed. Second install scheduled for Oct 29. Service guy was in an accident and Ackerman wanted to schedule another time. I told them that it was unacceptable. After talking to several employees I got a manager involved. They sent a technician who was obviously not happy but did the install. Once he left; within 30 minutes the camera ceased to work. Within 3 hours the doorbell kept ringing non-stop. I disconnected and called Ackerman. Told the earliest would be Nov 16. Called salesman who was going to see what he could do. Radio silence. On Nov 16 a new service tech arrived. He said that the replacement equipment was still not proper. Even though Ackerman instructed what was needed. Went out and got what the 3rd tech instructed me to get. Now I wait Wondering how long it will be; whether or not this equipment is correct and still no doorbell camera. This customer is loosing faith. How would you feel? Would they do this to the President of Ackerman? Oh, by the way Ackerman was more than happy to take my money. What has happened to customer service? Everybody has an excuse rather than make it right. Shame. read more

When your alarm sounds they are supposed to call 2 of the listed contact numbers and if noone is reached then have the police dispatched. My alarm went off from Sunday around 5pm until the next day when I returned home. The police were dispatched but I was never contacted. It was a huge surprise (and concern) for me to come home with my alarm going off and my neighbors to tell me it had been for so long. When I called Ackerman I was advised that they only had one phone number on file which is the one they called. I advised them that I had been called in the past at the number they "supposedly" didn't have but I kept being told that it couldn't be so and they only had one number on file for me. We updated the account but I was obviously worried and frustrated that it had been changed. Finally, after I began asking details about how to cancel the account I was put on hold and my original contract was pulled. The rep finally admitted that the original contract had other contact numbers and could not explained how the account contact information changed. They get 3 stars because they did finally admit their error....but I would still warn others to shop around. It is very concerning that my account information just randomly changed but I have 2 years left in a 3 year contract. :o( read more

I live in 30083, the city with the highest crime rate of the state. I want a security system that put me at ease when I'm away and a monitor station that responds as quick as possible and Ackerman does just that. Four years ago, I had ADT, paying nearly $50 a month for my wireless service. My home was invaded and wiped clean. I received no phone call from ADT. I got angry and switched to Ackerman. When Ackerman's tech came out, I finally knew the truth. ADT program a 30 seconds delay in their system to avoid false alarm overflow. That gave the intruders an extra 30 seconds to locate my panel and disconnect my wireless radio. Now, I'm paying half of what I paid to ADT and get quicker response from Ackerman without any delay. I got an attempted break in while I was at work several weeks ago. Ackerman called me the moment I received an intrusion notification from my Total Connect app. Police arrived within 10 minutes. I got home half hour later found my back door was busted open. Nothing major was stolen except for a piggybank my niece fed everyday. Thanks to Ackerman, now I feel very secure knowing that someone will always watch my home whether I'm there or not. read more

I have been a Ackerman Customer for just under a year. When I originally decided to go with Ackerman i had my reservanions after reading some of the negative comments on yelp and other sites. I work in the IT industry and understand how things with technology do not go perfect 100% of the time, I took a chance and could not be more pleased with the service, The installer was on time and even called 30 minutes before he was supposed to arrive. The 2 times my alarm has gone off i was pleased with the speed of the response from the Ackerman Alarm Center, and professionalism. I have had two batteries go dead in the year that i have had the system. That would be my only issue, not a big deal as i easily replaced them my self. The one reason i even mention the incident as they have an automated system that calls you to let you know that your battery in XYZ device needs battery replacement. I think that is forward thinking on Ackermans part and lets me know before it does become an issue. That way i can resolve the problem before the system does actually fail. Over all i would recommend Ackerman based on my personal experience with the company. read more

BE AWARE: ACKERMAN SECURITY SYSTEMS GIVES YOU A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY! YOU ARE NOT SECURE WITH THEM! If your security system is set to use your main phone line for monitoring, then ANYONE can cut your phone line or disconnect it from the distribution box and break into your home!. Ackerman will know NOTHING because THEY ARE NOT monitoring (pinging) the phone line to know when the line is live and when is dead. I had ADT before and stupidly believed Ackerman's sale rep that his company offers EVERYTHING ADT does. FALSE! From ADT I would get a call on my cell in minutes after my home phone line would go down, to make sure I am safe and nobody cut the line on purpose to break in without being detected. With Ackerman - I "broke" into my home 3 times and with all alarms off I called them to ask what is happening at the house, and they informed me "EVERYTHING IS OK" (while the alarms were screaming). When explained them this was NOT the case, they informed me that it is NOT THEIR job to monitor if the phone line is live or dead!! BOTTOM LINE, ANYONE CAN CUT YOUR LINE AND GET IN YOUR HOME AND ACKERMAN WILL NOT KNOW! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY read more

Ackerman is a nightmare. I signed up service in May of 2021 with the promise that our home security will be set up in two weeks. I choose to go with Ackermand because of their promise to get our alarm setup in two weeks while ADT couldn't find an available consultant. Once I signed the Ackerman, it took them 12 weeks to get an installer (contractor!!). Thereafter numerous issues with alarm. One of our doors were broken open by Ida storm(wind and water) Ackerman called our cell phones but we were in deep sleep. When I called next day to ask them why didn't the alarm sound. They informed me our house doesn't have siren and it was not on contract. I asked them who would install without a siren?. The manager agreed to install siren for free. It has been over two months since that promise. The contractor showed up and stated we need to wire the alarm and another tech. Scheduled for the following week no show. then I called asked for status again another appointment no show. I am tired of this. When I asked for cancellation they are asking me to pay 1150. Do I hire an attorney or should I just pay this and move on? read more
