ACES on FIRST is AWESOME. This is literally the BEST place in Downtown Duluth, I think. The staff is so friendly, they alway ask how your day is going and over the years I consider them to be my BEST friends. Honestly, they've been there so much for me in the past (when no one else was there, they were) that any one of them could ask me to help them move a heavy ass hot tub, and I would in a heartbeat. The owner, Cade, is THE shit. Just look for the tall guy with the sweet hair and badass button up shirt and you'll know him when you see him. Best part is because he's so cool, all the people he hires to work for him are cool, thus the people that frequent there are cool, so by going there YOU are COOL by association. It's like one big cool club and everyone's invited. The amount of romances and babies that have resulted from ACES ON FIRST is probably what keeps the population of Duluth above the 2.1 children-per-woman needed to prevent a society's extinction. Do yourself a favor and pop in Aces. I know that when I die and I enter the white light, on the other side I'm going to emerge into Aces. Heaven IS a place on Earth...and it's called ACES. The bartenders are amazing. Great service. The DJ was a total jerk. So rude to us that we left. Nobody was on the dance floor and he refused requests. Totally condescending to my daughter's requests. Should be replaced Immediately. read more

We went here for drinks on a Saturday night. The contemporary decor has deep warm colors of burgundy along with sensual portraits on the wall that remind me of back of the Casa Blanca time period. Interesting drink menu with the antioxidant acai martini. The crowd at the time appeared to be 20-40 something at the time we went. Would consider returning here again for drinks and lounging around. Pretty fun place to meet up with friends. Live bands every once in awhile. I think my favorite part about it is that you can order a pizza from next door and they will bring it over so you can eat it there. read more

Very nice looking help and they dress for the occasion. It was a nice joint but surprisingly slow for 830 on a Friday. The wife felt very comfortable here and we'll definitely make it back for another cocktail or two. Kind of an upscale feel for this part of Duluth. read more

I walked in wanting an Absolute Pear soda. The bar did not have Absolute Pear, but the bartender told me to give him a flavor and he would make it. I watched absolutely amazed as he mixes multiple liquors and mixes and got something much better than an Absolute Pear soda. This bar is truly capable of making hand crafted cocktails. I was completely amazed by the knowledge of liquor and the ability to mix drinks. Highly recommend. read more

The staff here is great and always pleasant. You can have a Sammy's Pizza delivered right to the bar, which is highly recommended. The bar has small round cold plates built right into it so you can set down your beer and keep it cold. Brilliant! read more

Aces is a great place to grab a drink or martini! It's located in the heart of downtown Duluth within walking distance of all of the downtown hotels. They have deejays playing dance music on the weekends. If you get hungry order some Sammy's Pizza which is two doors down. read more

Wow, worst service I have ever experienced. Was there on a weeknight and the bartender completely lost it on me and my friends after we had been in for like a minute and hadn't even ordered any drinks yet. Incredibly rude and honestly downright offensive. Really not sure what her problem was, I will not be going back again. Head to Dubh Linn or the Flame for a better time. read more

Not really a place I'd normally go to - it's just full of college kids and crappy music, but I had to meet some out-of-town friends. Waited 25 minutes for a drink while the bartenders took shots and ignored customers. Two women next to me asked how long I'd been waiting (as they'd been waiting over 15 minuntes), and if I could order their drinks when I ordered mine. I ordered the three drinks from a bartender with poofy blonde hair who honestly seemed kind of drunk. She set them down a ways down the bar instead of in front of me, without straws, and asked for $16. I said I'd be paying for mine and that the two women standing next to me would be their drinks (which were the same thing). She said I needed to get their cash, and rudely told me that I shouldn't have ordered for them if I wasn't going to pay for all of it. I said that we ordered together because I had been waiting for over 20 minutes with my cash out in front of me. She said it wasn't her job to split it up. I said I disagreed, and that since she was the bartender, it was her job. She told me, and I quote: "You don't have to be such a f***ing b**tch". Never in a million years would I (someone with years of experience as a server and bartender) say anything like that to a paying customer, especially not a sober customer who had to wait so long for service. I said "Excuse me but I'm not being a "f***ing b**tch, I just don't see what's so hard about charging me separately" to which she so cleverly responded "No, you're just being a f***ing b**tch". Needless to say I did not tip the waitress (first time ever not to tip someone), and I will never step foot in that bar again. read more
