This review is backdated--I went on Sunday, March 15th. I have been dreaming of a place like this. I want city vibes without having to trek all the way into the city. I am tired of the Irish pub, ale house, sports bar crowd. I'm middle-aged and I want something elegant and elevated... like me, lol. The snow finally melted, spring is springing, and I needed to get out. Any place that offers happy hour on a Sunday is already a win in my book--but the fact they call it Golden Hour? I love that. After a long, hard work week, I wanted to treat myself. The moment I walked in, I got old Hollywood ambiance. I was fully expecting to bump into Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack at any moment. Let's talk about the food. I had the wedge salad--and baby, this was not a side, this was a meal. We're talking chunky blue cheese dressing, bacon jam, pickled red onions, roasted cherry tomatoes... and a literal half head of lettuce. A big back salad for the ages. Then I had the shrimp cocktail--nice, large shrimp. Not those tiny, embarrassing ones either. And yes, they sell bumps of caviar, so of course I had one... because I am a bougie great Auntie. Now the bar? Super comfortable stools, which matters. And I had the pleasure of meeting two of the hottest mixologists in Patchogue--Brent and Chris. Truly masters of their craft. Go follow them on social media. I had the Only fans martini. It was delicious. I ordered my go-to: a cosmopolitan. And let me tell you--not everyone can make a proper cosmo. This one? Top tier. Overall, I love this establishment. Classy cocktails, amazing food, immaculate vibes, and impeccable service. My one and only complaint: when I walked in, they were playing 90s alternative rock. I was expecting jazz. With a place this classy, how do you not play jazz? Or at least some deep house? Either way--get down there ASAP. read more

My wife and I stopped in last night. This was probably our fourth time we were there. As I said previously, the place is very stylish and sleek. Unfortunately, this time I believe the service was lacking. We sat at the bar and were basically ignored for a few minutes. No napkins, no drink menu, no waters. We asked for a glass of water, but it didn't even arrive. We had to ask the bar back a few minutes later. I eventually got the attention of one of the bartenders and we were able to get our drinks. The drinks are very good. There were three bartenders. Two men and a woman. The men basically walk back-and-forth and never asked us if we wanted another drink . One of them was pretty loud and cursing like a sailor. Kind of not appropriate for a place with this classy style and appearance. The female bartender was definitely better although we had to flag her down to get a drink. Additionally, for a place like this I think the music could be a bit lower. Trust me, I love load music but in keeping with the theme of this establishment in my opinion I'd like to be able to have a conversation without yelling. That being said, we will likely be back. Dark and Intimate setting, its very inviting - had 6pm reservation, showed up at 5:30 and we were seated. We were handed menus and the waitress was really sweet. We ordered the lamb chop entree, the salmon entree and tuna tartare, sweet&sour cauliflower - all were really good however the tuna tartare was too sweet for me. Drinks ordered were Old Fashions and Lemon Drop - the drinks were very tasty and strong, during dinner, someone was coming over frequently to make sure we were ok and enjoying our meal - after paying we were sitting at the table waiting for our Uber, we were asked to sit at the bar, as they needed the table - a bit awkward but it was Valentines Day and they did seat us early for our reservation, so I wasn't bothered by the request. read more

We made a reservation to try the new speakeasy bar in Patchogue. Beautiful decor inside, love the hidden look it has from outside. We were seated in a great spot, but we all sunk in the chairs and couch. When it came time to eat, it was awkward to try and sit up properly. I feel like the cocktail menu was very limited. I went with the Ginger Snap because I'm a tequila girl and it was good, they even made it strong. We ordered apps; Oyster Rockefeller, Thai crispy calamari, and a Tuna tartare. They were all delicious, the tuna tartare was my favorite, but the chips were a little on the burnt side. After that, service took a turn for the worst when more people started trickling in, especially when a group of around 8 showed up. It took a while for our waitress to get back to us since she had to take orders from every table. One waitress on a Saturday evening.... She disappeared a lot, but we understood and we were patient. Our orders were finally taken, but we had to continue waiting a very long time for the food to get back to us. We sat there for a while with empty cocktail glasses and no more sparkling water... we finally got our second round of drinks, but one drink did not make it back before the entree. The waitress apologized and when she came back with the drink, she stated that the bar was sorry and that they would give us a discount due to it being forgotten. I ordered the salmon and it was delicious, a little undercooked, but I'm ok with that. The risotto was phenomenal, one of the best I've had, very flavorful. I did clean my plate. We then ordered dessert, and it also took a while for it to comeback. Now I keep saying this because we were there for a whole 2.5 hours! It wasn't our fault, the kitchen wasn't pumping out the plates fast enough and the waitress was always MIA because she was attending the entire place. The only reason they get 3 stars is because how slow it all was, and also because at the end, the manager or hostess or whoever, stated "I'm not trying to be rude, but there's a 2 hour limit here". Excuse me, we were not trying to be there for more than 2 hours. It looked like another party of 5 or 6 was trying to get seated, and they wanted to give our spot to them. Picture the first few seconds of the Guns N Roses video for "Welcome to the Jungle" where the girl from some small town gets off a bus and looks at a big city for the first time. Well, if you took that girl and brought her to Aces and 8's she would be naive enough to believe that she was somewhere fancy. The food was good, I'd be bold enough to say great. A price fix menu $57 for 3 courses $67 for 4 courses. Our introduction to the place was the waitress spilled a drink on her customer. As everyone scrambled for napkins, the same waitress began taking orders for food. Mistakes happen, and I can accept that. Putting the spilled drink aside, as a part of the price fix meal your dessert is included. 3 out of 6 of us ordered an ice cream sandwich. The ice cream was good. I'd love to know what the cookie tastes like. I personally asked a waitress and the manager to attempt to break the cookie apart using the provided spoon. The cookie was so frozen that no one at the table or the staff could break it apart. A passing waitress said "oh now I know why other people gave us their plates with just cookies on them."The manager took the dessert off the bill, and my pants were dry when I left. For $250 a couple I am more than confident we will find other establishments to visit. Everyone was very nice and accommodating, but this will be our only visit. Aces and 8's falls victim to most of Patchogue's problem: The Service. Every place has the same amazing and intriguing ideas, with the most inexperienced or inattentive staff. As I write this review, I'm still waiting for the brunette bartender from BoBbique to look in my direction so I can order a beer. Again, the staff was nice , but when you're not the girl from Alabama seeing the city for the first time, you are ready and willing to pay for more, but they simply cannot deliver. We are experienced diners, being asked to pay for your growing pains? Please avoid. Look up Orto or even Ixchel for a great meal, with a very experienced staff. read more

So we enjoyed our experience with Aces & Eights ! From the time we walked down the hall to this beautiful hidden gem was absolutely breathtaking beautiful . Bartenders were spot on , the cocktails , the smoked drinks , the presentation and the smile that came along with them. We had appetizers and entrées at the bar , food was delicious. After walking in I was immediately breath taken, this place is so beautiful the ambiance is fantastic! I had the dead mans hand, then switched over to a Woodford old fashioned. My wife stayed with the ginger snap all night. The drinks were made with such incredible craftsmanship it was the best old fashioned I've ever had. The staff here had the highest level of professionalism. I cannot wait to come back and I recommend to any one who appreciates a great drink with great service! read more

One of the worst experiences ever. The staff were incredibly rude and told us we were too loud. Mind you the music was BLARING, so it was incredibly hard to have a conversation. Throughout the night, one of the staff members and the manager were staring at me and my two friends I was with. They mocked us as we were taking group picture of ourselves. Also the drinks were watered down, so when I tried to order a second drink, I was cut off (with no explanation why). Then they eventually kicked us out. I cursed out the owner and staff member as they continued to stare at us uncomfortably. Finding out that other customers, who are also of color, have had similar experiences. I was really excited to try this new addition to the village and had high hopes going in. The drinks were good, but not quite where they should be...especially for a place positioning itself as a cocktail club. The cosmo was very red and lacked balance, and a couple of the other cocktails had clumps of honey rather than a properly incorporated honey syrup. It feels like the fundamentals just need a bit more attention. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest letdown. The tuna arrived waterlogged and was topped with a neon green "wasabi aioli" with a side of tasteless oil in a metal cup. At $22, I expected a more thoughtful and well-executed dish instead of something I'd get at a Dave and Busters. The fries were also overcooked to the point of being burnt, resulting in a noticeably bitter taste. Overall, I genuinely wanted to enjoy this spot, and with some refinement, especially in consistency and execution, it has the potential to be a great addition to the area. read more

Came here with my two friends for my birthday for a drink after we had brunch. The vibes were horrible as soon as we walked in. We sat at the bar where they had bouquets of red flowers and as the bartender came over we complimented the flowers and his response was "yeah and they are real so don't touch them" we brushed that off and ordered our drinks which were horrible and watered down drinks for $18. We were having fun just giggling in our seats when a woman rudely came over and told us we were being to loud and that if we didn't quiet down we would have to leave. We are not young kids we are adults and know how to behave in places. We were talking no louder than the other people at the bar. There was also music playing loudly so it's not like we could whisper. My one friend had to leave leaving me and just one other girl. We decided to get another round when the bartender said no we will not be serving you to my friend. She asked why and he ignored her but made me a drink. I gave her a sip of my drink when from what I believe to be the manger came over and told us to leave. He gave no real reason other than they were refusing service. My friend was not drunk in the slightest and we both tried to figure out why this was happening but we were told to get out or we would have security take us out. I don't throw around racism lightly but I believe this was a clear case of it. We were the only black and Hispanic people in this place and the treatment, comments and side eyes we received from the second we got there we unacceptable. Steer clear of this place!! While the inside decor is beautiful- a place that names itself a cocktail lounge should actually have good cocktails. Every cocktail we order tasted watered down. Nothing felt professionally or rightfully done. While they did take the drinks back, it didn't excuse that we sent back five cocktails! One of my friends ordered a martini, and I swear it literally tasted like straight up water. I actually questioned the waitress that they put water in the vodka. Strangest experience. The food was good, but I wouldn't come back.
