My mother-in-law took her Stihl blower in to have the primer bulb replaced. That was all it needed. That was all she wanted done. What they did to her blower was criminal. Not only did they not replace the primer bulb as she had ask, they broke the throttle lever off the carburetor when they dis-assembled it. Why they dis-assembled her blower to replace an easily accessible primer bulb is beyond any conceivable explanation or understanding. When she went in to pick up her blower after being told it was ready, she was handed a bag of parts, and a bill for fifty some dollars. They had the nerve to tell her (after they broke the carburetor) it needed a new carburetor, and it was going to cost as much to repair the blower as it would be to purchase a new one. Then they charged her fifty some dollars for their "fine" service. All it needed was a primer bulb! You can see in the attached photo the condition in which they returned her blower. If legible, the broken throttle lever pieces are circled in the photo. Unbelievable!!! Had this happened to me, these people would be in court making reparations for the damage they caused. This is truly criminal taking advantage of a person in this manner. If I heard one day someone burned them out, I just might have to smile.

Since it was my very first time shopping there I was invited to become a member, downloaded their app, and did so and the keys ended costing me almost nothing for using a coupon one of their helpful employee gave me. But what I remember the most is how well I was treated. Since then I enjoy visiting their stores for most of my hardware needs. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And this ACE Hardware Store on 2303 Williamson Rd NE, in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. ACE ultimate goal is "to be the most helpful hardware store for customers, offering quality products and convenient shopping experiences with expert advice." Through personal experience I have found out that their employees go the extra mile for its customers. And they have such a variety of products, that throughout the Seasons I like visiting the store because you never know what you'll find there. Anything from pumpkins to local honey during this time of the year. As a matter of fact, the other day I had to make a gift of local honey, and here is precisely where I found it. As soon as I walked in a friendly young lady greeted me, welcomed me to their store, and made herself available to help me find anything I needed or was looking for. I could see why their slogan "ACE is the place with the helpful hardware folks," was very true indeed. As I walked through the store I was amazed at all the different products they had in such a limited amount of space compared to places like Home Depot and Lowe's. And their prices if you add the excellent service you get are not bad at all. The service they provide is extraordinary. I read in one of their ads that if you purchase one of their large barbeque grills they will go out to your house and put it together. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and give them a visit. It is by supporting local stores like these that we can show our appreciation for their service and the great contribution they make to our community.

The selection might not be as wide as that of big-box hardware stores such as Home Depot and the prices might be slightly higher on some items, but the convenience is great and it's just a pleasant experience to shop there and feel good about supporting a local business. Danny, the owner and his staff are very helpful and it's great to be able to run down the hill to find that one critical part of a project that's missing instead of driving 35 minutes to Waynesboro. The store looks incredible and is a super valuable asset to the community. I am thrilled if I can get what I need here instead of through Amazon or at the big box stores. I have found some real gems in the garden section here too and at excellent prices. I am so grateful for this local resource and encourage folks to purchase here whenever possible. Even if you find a deal elsewhere that is a few dollars cheaper, your investment in our community is well spent here!

And the place is as busy as it could be. A steady stream of visitors kept on coming in. The staff was probably the most knowledgeable and friendly hardware staff I've seen. From hardware, appliances, furniture, sporting goods, and banjos, this store has it all. Nothing in the store has been updated, but has been gently maintained to keep it in its original state. I once asked for a pound of framing nails and 50 feet of rope. One of several older men working there went to a wood bin and picked up a large handful of nails and put them in the bag and asked if that would do. It was clearly over a pound but charged me for just the pound. Another man went to the back and started measuring rope using is outreached arms. Again, clearly over 50 feet but charged me not a penny more. If you are in the area, its worth spending 20 minutes or so wondering the aisles and finding things you'll never find in Home Depot or Walmart. Nothing about CJ Richardson's is commercial, superficial, or meant to impersonate the good old days. What you see is what you get (and that really says something).
