Ace Hardware (Buikema's) - Naperville, around 8:40 PM this morning February 4th I had a great start with the first cashier who was genuinely helpful showing me how to use coupons in the Ace app. But she got pulled away to handle something with another customer and asked another employee to finish checking me out and apply the remaining discounts. That second employee (older woman, blonde hair pulled back, glasses) made a very obvious full-body "really?/come on" reaction and rolled her eyes while I was pulling up the last coupon. She used a rude tone, pointed the scanner at my phone impatiently, and acted annoyed the entire time I was trying to show the final discount. I asked calmly if she was aggravated that I used coupons. She walked away while responding, wouldn't engage, and said I "misinterpreted" her with her back turned. It was crass and uncomfortable -- especially since I was polite and simply using the store's own app discounts. I shop here because I expect friendly, respectful service. I hope management addresses how customers are treated when using coupons. I'm not trying to play the senior citizen card but I am near 65 and I do fuss with apps. Longtime Customer, but Disappointed by Recent Service ChargeI've been a customer of Fullers Hardware ever since I moved to Clarendon Hills, and over the years, I've relied on them not just for hardware needs but also for home repair services. They've always been helpful, knowledgeable, and a great local resource -- which I really value. However, my most recent experience in October 2024 and May 2025 left me a bit disappointed. A heavy picture had fallen in our bedroom, and since I couldn't lift it myself, I called Fullers for help. They sent two people, who re-hung the picture in about 10 minutes. I also asked them to recaulk a small section (about 10 inches) in the shower, which took another 10 minutes. I was surprised to receive a bill for $175.00. I assumed this was a minimum service charge, and I paid it, but it still felt quite steep for a total of roughly 20 minutes of relatively simple work. The first week in May 2025, I called and told them the calking they had done was again in bad shape and been done right the first time. They sent someone. Took 10 minutes to repair and charged me another $175.00. I called to complain.was given no relief and I think was treated discourteously. While I appreciate the responsiveness a of the service, I think it would be helpful if the pricing structure -- especially for small jobs -- was more transparent. We are long time customers of Fullers..... the hardware store, the auto repair, the car wash and Dips & Dogs. They are pricey but the service was good & supporting a local business was important to us. We have had two recent very unpleasant experiences & wont be back again. I tried to redeem a $150 gift certificate from more than a year ago ( a gift to taking cooking classes purchased right before they stopped offering them. I had taken dozens of classes so my husband often gave me gift certs). Well you would think I asked the gentleman for his first born. He sighed and stomped around. My purchase wasn't the full $150 but he refused to give me the remaining balance of under $15 in cash. Told me to keep the little handwritten receipt he gave me as a credit against another purchase. He snottily said if I lost it my money was gone. This week we cleaned our gutters but we decided not to climb on the roof to clean out several small lengths of gutter on the 2nd story. Called Fullers for quote to do those. $170 minimum. I thanked the lady who gave me the quote but said that was more than what we wanted to spend for a small job. She said that if it was under an hour it would be $85. I gave her my credit card. The workers were here 15 minutes. ( actually 12 minutes). I got a call from Fullers that they failed to save my card #. I went in to the store to pay and the bill was $170. I reminded them of the quote I received and the 15 minute job. The gentleman ( same as the guy with the gift certificate) was SO rude. He was condescending & told me that I should know that next time it's $170 no matter what. Treated me like a child in front of other customers. Next time??? Ha. Not returning to any Fuller business. UPDATE: One of our adult children brought their car to Fullers for repair. The estimate was awfully high so we suggested they get a second opinion. You'll never guess...... a different diagnosis at less than half the price. It's been repaired and performing beautifully. Looking for a flashback to a neighborhood hardware store that takes care of its customers? Then look nor further than Fuller's in Hinsdale. While the downstairs is reminiscent of that old hardware store with the creaky wood floors, the upstairs with its sweeping staircase is a bit of Williams Sonoma coupled with a fine cook's kitchen. For the hardware store- they staff it with men and women who know their stuff. Ask for a certain kind of screw, paint or socket and they personally walk you to where it is shelved to make sure you can find it. If you want something that they don't stock- ask and they will probably order it for you. From high end vacuum cleaner bags (Miele) to paint, keys, locks and more- Fuller's has what you need for those big or little jobs. I even sent a friend of mine there to get her vacuum cleaner plug replaced and not only did they have the part- they put it on her vacuum cord all within an hour! As for the upstairs- I attended one cooking class there which was great. They offer up a variety of classes some hosted by local chefs from neighboring restaurants. They also sell a large variety of high end kitchen accessories- everything from napkin rings and candles- to those special serving pieces that will finish off your table. While the pricing may be a bit higher than some of the larger chain hardware stores- I'd rather pay a little more for someone to help me and explain to me some alternatives to a project that I thought I could handle on my own. While we live in a time where most people seem to shop at the big box hardware stores- it's nice to know that the small town feel of a place that actually cares about it's customers still exists today. And that's what Fuller's does best. read more

Boy, this Fuller family sure has it's finger on the pulse of the western suburbs. Since one of the area's earliest settlers was Ben Fuller, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Unfortunately, the days of the old Mom and Pop shops are gone, but Fuller's really does a pretty good job of keeping that small town flare while still offering their customers a wide variety of merchandise at the same time. Formerly "Soukup's", this Hinsdale store has gone through extensive renovation and turned out just beautifully. But don't let the designer facade fool you. You'll still be able to find all the nuts and bolts you need, while getting the same personal attention from an employee who actually knows what they're talking about. Can't find something? Chances are someone in a red smock is about to ask if you need assistance anyway, and will be more than happy to walk you to your item. Their prices are a little higher than at some of the big box stores, but with the convenience of it's location and extra friendly service, I'm betting you won't even give that a second thought. So the vacuum stopped working the other day and I took it into a different service center. They open it up and found wires pinched, parts & screws missing, which had caused a catastrophic failure of both motors and the PCB. Basically he said a monkey had been working on it. It will cost more than a new one to fix! The only place that had been working on this machine was Fuller's Ace Hardware. This is so upsetting as these are not cheap machines and are intended to last 20 to 30 years when properly maintained. So I called them up and spoke with the service manager again (same guy as last time). He was shocked and said this doesn't happen there. I then referred to my conversation with him last year and he had no answer. Guess he has a short memory. Wants me to bring the unit in for repair. I told him they were going to repair it and not charge me. We will see. read more

Great store but hard to see. Its somewhat hidden and all of the signage says Fuller's Home & Hardware, so it was not readily easy to determine whether this was an Ace. They have parking in front of the location which is a huge plus as it can be somewhat difficult to get a space in the mornings/early afternoons in downtown Hinsdale. Service was a four out of five. Most of the staff members were friendly, but the one that I was dealing with did not have a very cheerful disposition (in fact, quite the contrary). read more

My review is for The Second Floor. We had a work event here and I was not that impressed with the facility. The chef instructor was great at catering to the crazy diet issues with my office of 14 and she seemed very personable and knowledgeable. The cooking class space however leaves you in the middle of the store so as other are talking and shopping it's distracting. We also were doing a cooking class not a demonstration and it was pack between the ovens and the counter. You literally could not move unless someone else did. Not only was it claustrophobic but it also seemed dangerous. I would not recommend doing a private party of more then 10 people unless you just want to watch and then not more the 15 because that is how many seat wide the eating bar is. Lastly the store itself is very cute and the downstairs have a ton of stuff in them. In a pinch it's the way to go but be prepared to pay a very Large premium for the location of the store being in the downtown area. read more

The staff here are quite friendly and helpful, I've found. While the footprint of the store is pretty small, they use the space quite efficiently. I often go inside unsure of whether what I need will be there. In most cases they have what I need, and I'll be given a couple of choices in brand or product line. So what's the downside? Price. I'd say that if you go into the store with an idea of what a fair price for your purchase is, add about 15% to 25%, and you'll approximate the cost at Fuller's. At times I think I've audibly said, "You've got to be kidding me." But then I realize that this is Hinsdale, and there is a parking lot, and it is truly prime real estate. They have to pass that cost on to their customers. So be smart about it. Don't load up your vehicle with home improvement materials from Fuller's. Go to Menards or Home Depot for that. Save this place for the "I can't believe I forgot the _____, I'm glad Fuller;s is nearby" situations. read more

I love Fuller's Hardware. The store itself recently remodeled and the new interior competes with lots of private homes in Hinsdale. I think it's a really nice store and the service is GREAT!! You are quite likely to be served by a member of the Fuller famiy. They are so great and accomodating even if you don't really know your way around a hardware store (like me). The upstairs is a sort of Williams Sonoma. They even do cooking classes here which I think is just so cool. I haven't had time to take one yet, but I intend to in the near future. read more

Best ahem "hardware" store ever! This is not a Menards or Home Depot or even your locally owned Ace! This place rocks! See, the Fuller family owns the car wash, gas station and car repair shop in Hinsdale. They are like the Trump family of NY. They own half the town! I grew up with Wally and Paula and damn, look at them now. This gem was not always owned by the Fullers but they took the original charm and ran with it. Great customer service and you will find things here that you will not find, trust me...not find at big box hardware stores. Yep, parking sucks, it's Hinsdale so deal with it. Fullers has amazing cookware, decorations. screws, saws, lights, plumbing crap and some Hinsdale only decorations. Pricier than your big box stores but you will see the same employees here and won't have to search for someone to answer your question. My Mom said "why don't you date that nice boy Wally Fuller?! **Beware** Poor service Over priced I paid three thousand dollars to have my garage floor repaired by Fuller's Home & Hardware. I purchased the better product with a lifetime warranty recommend by Mr. Fuller. Not more then six moths after they installed the product it started coming up from the floor. Mr. Fuller would not stand behind their product, their word or service guarantee. I want anyone considering there service to consider other options. read more

Ace Fuller Hardware's business plan is to rip off the hard working people of Hinsdale. Their prices are inflated by about 40% compared to the stores in the two nearest towns. They mock their customers, and are ignorant about their own products. STAY AWAY. There are much better stores in Westmont or anywhere else. read more

It took 1 email, 3 phone calls, and one time of me randomly dropping in over the course of 4 weeks to get an estimate for snow plowing- the property is less than a mile away from the business. Amazing service! Dropped my snow blower off at 10:30 am on a Sunday for a tune up. They said they probably wouldn't be able to get it finished the same day due to being light staffed. Not only did they finish, they dropped it off at my house free of charge by 2:00 pm! I love this place - all small businesses should model their customer service after Fuller's! read more

To start on a good note, they are GREAT at cutting keys. This may not sound like a big deal, but it really can be. Any time I have needed keys to be made, they get it right the first time - every time. My reasoning for only three stars, though, is due to a service call I had with my grill. I was quoted $65 to clean the grill at my home and to give them a credit card upfront when I made the appointment. No problem. The guys arrived at 4:30pm on a hot and very sticky day. They asked if they could take it with them, clean it at the store and then return it to me - all at the same cost. I understood how uncomfortable it was outside and agreed but told them I needed it back by a specific date. The grill was cleaned and returned to me on time. The did a good job (not stellar, but notably better than I would have done) and were very friendly. When my credit card bill arrived, I was charged $325.85! Even if my grill had required more time than expected, a price difference of that amount warrants a phone call in my book. (I did check through Caller ID in case they called but didn't leave a VM.) I really was pleased with the cleaning overall and the friendliness of the workers, but I was so unhappy with the practice of just keeping a credit card on file to charge as they feel. I tried calling to question this but the person I was told I needed to speak with was never available at the times I was able to call and my call was never returned. I should have contested the charge with the credit card company but didn't and that is on me. Admittedly, this happened last June, so this review may be a bit unfair but I did try calling and truly believe they should have called me prior to starting the work to OK a price difference of $260. My suggestion for anyone using their services would be to decline keeping a credit card on file so that you can manage charges before they happen. read more

They carry not only supplies, but offer services such as moving, repairs, lawn care, decorating/lighting services and more. I don't usually come here often because it is a little pricer than when I can just go to Home Depot, but you get the quality service here and it seems to me that anything "Fuller family owned" gives you that excellent customer service! read more

A sad and barely adequate "hardware" store married to a large but suprisingly bland/generic "cooking store" with a huge table lines store thrown into the mix. The staff is quite good, but the stock is very very limited. I guess not enough folks in now "dripping rich" Hinsdale care to fix stuff on their own so there is a not much available here that you can't get at a Home Depot (ugh!) unlike in the "old days" when the former store that occupied the same basic space stocked a multitude of repair /household maintence items. Sure, it is part of the Ace system, and the staff will "order" anything from the huge Ace catalog for you, but that is not going to do much could when you want/need to fix something NOW. The former hardware store had a large selection of kitchen goods, so the Fuller's have wisely decided to add an entire second floor devoted to such things BUT there is basically NOTHING on this second level that one cannot pick up at Williams-Sonoma or Bed, Bath & Beyond (a lot more cheaply elsewhere too...). I remember when independant "cookware shops" would go out of their way to stock goods that the chains did not -- and given the upscale nature of Hinsdale one might think that this would be a good place to find the kind of unique items that could be imported from France, Germany or other points. There is huge section of table linens that seem to be of good quality, I buy a tablecloth about once a decade from Marshall Fields -- maybe less often when the name says "Macys"-- I really not capable of reviewig that portion of the store. read more

I have been coming to this hardware store location for over 40+ years, when it was Soukups and everyone knew your name and all you had to do was ask them to "bill my dad" for anything I needed. Now that it's Fullers, they have the same small town feeling and are very helpful. On a positive note, I bought a Weber grill for myself on Father's Day and they delivered it to my house and set it up within 2 hours of purchase so that we could have a cookout the same afternoon. Great! They also had competitive pricing versus Home Depot on the shower heads, faucets and other home items we recently purchased for our house. On a sour note, they quoted us a rate to install a basketball hoop in our front yard (the kind where you pour the cement, install the post and set up the hoop). However, when they called to confirm the installation, they doubled the price versus the original quote....we cancelled the installation and had another person do it instead. Overall, they run a great business, always friendly and helpful and nice to have that versus the Home Depot, Menards mentality where they don't know a thing about the products. A few sour apple employees won't keep us from running over for some quick purchases. And, the kids love Dips and Dogs, also owned by the Fullers next door. read more

Service and attention to detail is terrible. I had Fuller's tune-up my chainsaw. I told them I was going to be using it back in areas where I could not get it serviced. I asked Fuller's to make sure the chainsaw was tuned up and ready to use. I got the chainsaw back took it into the woods and on the first pull of the pull string noticed it was frayed. After a few pulls the pull string broke rendering the chainsaw unusable. Then I ordered a 2 new chains and a pull string for the saw on a Monday was told it would be in and I could pick it up that Thursday. Thursday I called wasn't in yet. I called the following Thursday was told it would be in in 2 more days. Monday was told not in yet. Tuesday was told not in yet and that Fuller's would call me when it arrived. Wednesday no call. I called Thursday and was told it was in. So on top of the blades taking 2 weeks instead of 4 days to get in Fuller's couldn't call me like they said they would when the blades actually came in. Then when I picked up the blades I was told they had to cut the pull cord to length from some bulk roll and it would be difficult to cut to proper length without the saw being present. First time that I heard that from Fuller's ...Every time I called to check on my order I inquired about the pull cord and was told it would be available when I picked up my blades. Every business will have some hickups but what counts is how you handle those hickups. Fuller's had several chance to turn this experience around and they dropped the ball on all of them. There was poor follow-up with Stihl. No follow-up with me and I still don't get what was the problem with the pull cord. Why tell me you can sell me a pull-cord if you can't deliver the pull cord without the chainsaw being there. I don't get it!!! read more

Love this store BUT, decided to try "Fullers to go" . Frozen entrees that are all set to pop in the oven, I bought chicken tetrazzini for four. Wow, what a disappointment! First the cooking directions were way off, 40 minutes to cook a frozen entree? I knew this was wrong so I gave it an hour, still not even close to done! When I uncovered it I saw chicken and noodles, no sauce, no vegetables, no parmesan, so basically I paid $30.00 for a pan of chicken and buttered noodles. Sent an email to Fullers stating the above and guess what.......no response. read more

Poor Service . I bought a stihl kombisystem 94 asemble but no manual and no tools 2 attachment not assemble still in the box. I decided to return the products but Manuel the service guy that the item is not returnable and it is a special order he also stated to me that if I return those items I bought he loose his profit and stihl would not accept returns. He also stated that they are not selling Stihl products anymore but they still have in the store and the item . I call the store and spoke to the manager Paula and asked if special order are returnable and she said no. Ok ... I call corporate and asked him about my problem and spoke to Rick. I told him the items I bought was not used. As he told me to call STIHL and I did . As they told me that I can return the products that I bought from them within 7 days on the time that I purchase. Fullers Ace Hardware still refusing me to return the Stihl items I bought. They are not friendly and they think I don't know anything and they can fool me... read more

Horrific experience. I decided to splurge and have my Christmas lights hung professionally . I called Fuller's since I try to support local businesses. I spoke with Doug Fuller and said that I was looking to spend $400-$500 and that I already had extension cords and timers that they could use. He took my credit card number and said that they would put them up after Thanksgiving. My bad for not getting a quote in writing but I thought I didn't have to with a "reputable" small business. They put up a thin strand of live garland and lights across the porch and around the doorway and embellished it with about 6 of those red bows you get at Home Depot for $4. It look them about 30 minutes and they didn't use my cords and timers, but no big deal. It looked very pretty but nothing spectacular. The guys said that they would send me a bill but never did. I then looked at my credit card bill and they had charged me $966! I called Fuller's and left messages four times with no response. I then texted Doug Fuller who kept saying that he would look into it and contact me tomorrow. Then days would go by and I would text him again. This happened about three times. After an entire month of this he finally said that they were going to credit me $200, but still never gave any details about why they were still charging $300 over what we discussed. It's so sad when people spend a lifetime building a business and then their kids run it like this. read more

I've had two bad experiences in this establishment (on the first floor), each involving rude, thoughtless behavior on the part of two different young male clerks. In one case I brought in a key to duplicate and handed it to the young man behind the key counter with my request. He did not acknowledge me in any way; and then he handed the key to another man with the barked command, "Manuel, make the key." His lack of humanity and personal kindness was appalling. And only today I sought to return a lighting timer I purchased 17 days ago; in its short life to date, it has stopped working. After he made comments that assumed I don't know how to operate a lighting timer, another young male clerk rudely informed me their policy limits returns to 7 days from purchase. When I inquired about items that stop working on the 8th day, he was rude, condescending, and unhelpful. When I asked to speak with a manager, his response to me was, "Oh, you WILL speak to a manager." The manager (a woman) did try to solve my problem. In each of these cases these young men showed no interest in me as a customer and I was faced with a combative style when I spoke up and requested better treatment. I learned of Fuller's via the Miele website and went there with the purpose of purchasing a vacuum cleaner. When I first walked in the store, I asked the girl at the checkout where I could find the vacuums. First she looked puzzled, scanned the store from her position, and then pointed me down the aisle. Fuller's had several models on display and I could also see several in their inventory. The problem was there was no one willing and/or able to assist in the sale. I found a catalog on the shelf and after several minutes looking over the features of Miele's many models, I sent my husband to find someone to assist. A gentleman came over and said he didn't know anything about the vacuums other than they are popular. I asked the cost since none of the models were priced and he told me we would have to take the model we wanted up to the register to scan it. I informed him that cost was going to be factor in my decision, therefore I would like to know the pricing of all the models they had to offer as well as some of the differences. So he took the catalog to the checkout and asked the girls if they could write the pricing into the book. Two girls said they had no idea what the pricing was on the vacuums and said it was Juan's job, but she didn't think he was working. They seemed a bit annoyed that we interrupted their conversation. The gentleman then went to another desk to speak with someone else about pricing and he said he didn't know but said Juan was somewhere in the store. Upon walking into the store, Juan poked at a computer for a little bit and then said Andrew was the one to speak with regarding the vacuums. After a couple more minutes of this "speak with so-in-so" and being ignored (not that there were other customers in the store because we were it), my husband and I opted to leave this store. Six employees had no desire nor ability make the sale. Not a way to make and keep customers. Never again. read more

I was recently in the market for wood stain for our wooden playset. As a resident of Hinsdale, I chose to purchase this stain at Fuller's to support local business. We picked a color which was created from a stock by staff, bought it and spent a few hours each day for about a week painting our set. After using up this gallon, we bought a second gallon, ordered the same color as the first, and then noticed the color they mixed and sold to us was different, this 2nd gallon was much darker than the original color we had been using. As we had already painted about 75% of the set, we decided to return to Fuller's and exchange this 2nd gallon for a gallon in the original color. The workers at Fuller's were rude, disrepectful, and essentially accused us of changing the color ourselves. All we wanted was a color match of the very first gallon we purchased at this store. We were told, no, that was not possible. When we explained that we invested so much time painting already, that we purchased this product at this store because we live in Hinsdale and wanted to support local business, we were basically dismissed by very inconsiderate workers. PLEASE PLEASE do not shop here if you are looking for helpful and courteous staff. This place may be family owned, but they clearly do not value their customers. We will be taking our business elsewhere. I will share our experience with fellow Hinsdaleans in our preschool and elementary school circles, as well as our neighbors and friends. I hope no one else experiences such treatment at a local Hinsdale business as this was just embarassing. read more
