I was on the hunt for a pair of tiny halogen bulbs to replace the burned out ones located under my microwave. My first stop was actually Walmart and they didn't have what I needed, so off to Ace I went. Found the bulbs, but was also shocked at the $6.99/each price. Menard's sells the exact same brand I bought at Ace (Westinghouse) for less than $2.50/each, but I didn't want to drive across town. Amazon was also selling a pack of 10 bulbs for less than $10, but I didn't that many nor did I want to wait for them to arrive. You can't beat the customer service at Ace, but their prices are quite steep on some items. I'd return again because really liked the store and friendliness of the employees. Plus, you can feel good about shopping local. My go-to place for key cutting. Wheelchair/walker users beware: very narrow aisles.

I like the selection, good prices, and truly qualified people working the floor in plumbing, electrical, and paints. Note that you have to go to the very back of the store to visit the "Service Desk" to buy things like lumber and drywall ... then you have to pick it up out back. This takes more time than Lowes or Home Depot, which is kind of annoying, but I find I get better and more diverse choices at Menards. If you want big brand tools like Dewalt or Milwaukee you'll probably not find them at Menards. The tools are more basic for sure. Still, a good hardware store.

Also, all their hand tools have lifetime warranties to make up for the poor quality (oops... I mean to say they have lifetime warranties to prove they're such great quality...). Anything with a brand name here though tends to be more expensive than at other stores (example: Brand name product X was like $3.50 here, but only $2.30 at Farm and Fleet), so be cautious on that. They've got a large selection of: power tools, welding stuffs, safety supplies (gloves, glasses, etc), wrenches, hammers, clamps, axes, screwdrivers, car repair tools, pneumatic tools, piping supplies, and tons more I'm forgetting.

Best part: they deliver! I drive a small car and had no way to haul everything to my second-floor apartment let alone move it up the stairs myself. They charge $20 to deliver the first piece and $5 for each additional piece, so my total was $30 delivery. TOTALLY worth it, as the 7ft couch was heavy as hell and barely fit through my door. Thank goodness for those delivery guys. Oh, and I also found DOWN couch pillows with removable (aka washable) covers here for $2 each!! If your furniture needs aren't urgent, I would recommend stopping by frequently and waiting for good finds. The other day I saw 8 dark red wood office desks for sale at $50 each, all *very* nice and probably go for ten times that price retail. Some local office must have donated them, and I'm sure they were snatched up in a matter of days. To save on delivery fees, you can purchase something, tag your name to it, and leave it there for up to two weeks before scheduled delivery, and you can shop around for other furniture pieces in the meantime to combine into one delivery.

Today, I had an unplanned trip to the plant department in search for some new plants for my apartment. I wasn't sure where to even start. You see, when plants enter my home the mortality rate becomes extremely high. I had given up faith almost, but today Cassidy restored my faith in raising plants past a 30-180 day survival mark. Cassidy saw me wandering around lost in the indoor section and asked if she could assist me with anything. I explained the situation. I kill plants; I love plants, and I needed something that would survive in my low-light apartment. For 20 minutes she educated me on different types of plants, different planters and what works best, different soils and how to mix them, how to know when to water certain ones and when not to water them, proper drainage, treating certain bugs, and she helped me pick out some plants that would be a perfect fit for me! I left with 2x as many plants as expected. She taught me more in 20 minutes than I could have ever learned searching on the Internet all day long. If I had a question, she had an answer. Cassidy made me feel as if I should visit the indoor plant section more often and I hope to see her again!
