Thank Mark and Wren for whipping up a batch of eggshell paint for me in a super weird color so I could do some paint patches on my rental before I moved out tomorrow morning. I brought in a photo of the original can that I found in the closet at the rental and Wren was able to match the color exactly, and so quickly, Thank you! I love hardware stores and this is a really nicely organized one that smells clean and is well stocked. Prices are reasonable, lots of sales too. Great all around. But it is the kind and helpful staff here that give it the whole 5 stars!! Wish I could give Wren and Mark 6 stars for coming to my rescue and getting that paint for me!! read more

Helpful staff! I brought in old power tools that needed new cords and longer cords, so after picking my wires and plugs, they took my tools. They called the next day to tell me they were finished. Great work! read more

I love this store so much. I have been here many times, and the associates are always friendly and helpful. You are greeted and asked if you need help - if you do, they take you right to the section and help you find exactly what you need. I've come in with some random requests, and the associates are great about helping you troubleshoot. In December of last year (it's now December again, so apparently, we have a pattern), we purchased paint and supplies for the main living areas of our house. When I went in last December, Mark asked about the project and helped me find exactly the finish and color that would work for my end goal. He didn't make me feel rushed or like a nuisance. Here we are a year later, painting one of the bedrooms we havn't yet tackled, and of course, we went back to Ace! I didn't take nearly as long to figure out what I wanted this time, but I know they would have been just as helpful and patient as last year if I needed the help. Highly recommend! read more

This is a very nice Ace Hardware store. The displays outside and inside really caught my attention; very attractive. I was on the hunt for a pair of tiny halogen bulbs to replace the burned out ones located under my microwave. My first stop was actually Walmart and they didn't have what I needed, so off to Ace I went. Found the bulbs, but was also shocked at the $6.99/each price. Menard's sells the exact same brand I bought at Ace (Westinghouse) for less than $2.50/each, but I didn't want to drive across town. Amazon was also selling a pack of 10 bulbs for less than $10, but I didn't that many nor did I want to wait for them to arrive. You can't beat the customer service at Ace, but their prices are quite steep on some items. I'd return again because really liked the store and friendliness of the employees. Plus, you can feel good about shopping local. My go-to place for key cutting. Wheelchair/walker users beware: very narrow aisles. read more

Cashier over-charged me by over $140 (on a $40 order), and then proceeded to argue with me that the discrepancy was due to me rounding up for charity before I finally convinced him that lag bolts and caulk shouldn't be nearly $200. He spent 10 minutes trying to fix issue before a manager finally intervened. Was told I'd be refunded, but that refund hasn't shown on my account while the original charge cleared, so now having to deal with disputing the amount with my bank. Was given a $5 gift card for my 'patience', while spending nearly 20 minutes at the register. Ace is much closer to my house, but after this experience I'll be making the drive to other stores for hardware needs. read more

Every time I go here the employees are jumping to help you find something or problem-solve. They are so helpful and easy to talk to. I've had poor experiences at other hardware stores with employees approaching you with condescending tones or not even offering to help when you obviously look lost, but Ace is the best! I've been here more times than I'd like to admit trying to find the right size screws for some furniture and a replacement for some missing knobs and finally I caved and let them help me -- I should've done that ages ago! Within minutes the employee had shown me how to identify what size I needed and how to read the screw boxes in the aisle and even gave me several options for another piece I was trying to replace. I am glad this is my neighborhood hardware store because they are extremely helpful! read more

Possibly the best hardware store I've been in. Very large inventory, clean and organized, competitive prices, and quantum leap in service compared to big box stores. You won't find any deer-in-the-headlight clerks here - they know where their stuff is, how to use it, and are courteous with questions. read more

Walked into Ace Hardware today randomly just to check to see if they had power steering fluid. I figured they didn't, but went in just to check. After going in and seeing that there was no auto section I notice I'm being followed by a employee (Ted). I decide to leave as to not cause any issues only to see that that same employee is standing at the door recording me from his personal phone as I get into my car (he even waved at me). I go back in and confront him about it at which point he admits to recording me just to walk away and try to check out some customers in the middle of me bringing up this issue. I went to leave again but decided I should go back and record him admitting to what he did. As soon as I start recording him, he begins to lie about recording me even though he had just admitted to it not even a minute earlier. A senior employee (Dennis) eventually comes over and immediately sides with Ted and it takes over five minutes of me recording our interaction before I caught him admitting to pulling out his personal device to record me. At which point both employees try to downplay the incident and frame it as a common occurrence. Dennis refused to give me his last name and asked me to leave the store shortly after this. Terrible experience and both employees should be ashamed of themselves. read more

This place started out strong a couple years ago, with friendly staff and good selection. I enjoyed shopping here. But that is over. Things have gone downhill in the past 6 months or so. Instead of well-trained knowledgeable adults, they're hiring teens and failing to train them or teach them manners. Yesterday, I went in for a t-handled torx wrench. I didn't know where they were, so I asked the lanky, brown-haired teen who was playing on his phone in the first aisle, apparently where his supervisor could not see him. His vocabulary did not include the workd "torx" and he acted like I was asking about something that does not exist. Stupid customers, asking for stuff that doesn't exist, I've got to get back to my chat. No big deal, they'll figure out that they have a bad employee on their own. Today, I encountered a similar situation. When I walked in, nobody greeted me. The first person I saw was some dopey millennial schlub with greasy black hair by the paint section. He was playing on his smartphone, which was plugged in and charging. I asked him where I could find adhesive rubber feet. He acted like I'd just asked for nuclear blueberries or something that doesn't exist, and said they don't have them. As we were speaking, his instinct was to come towards me, but he couldn't because he was tethered by his phone charging cable. So he stood there with the cord stretched and his right arm stretched, unwilling to move beyond the end of his leash. The phone and his online activities were clearly far more important to him than his employment. I said that I was certain that they have adhesive rubber feet, and I told him to go on with what he was doing and I'd walk the store and find the damn feet. Upon finding the feet, I returned to the dope at his electric outlet, held up the feet and said, "Here they are, adhesive rubber feet. Maybe you'd be more familiar with the store layout if you walked around instead of playing on your phone." Instead of dropping his head in shame, he said, "you have a bad attitude, get out of here now". So I did. I left. I don't know how the rubber feet will get back to their peg, since he has no idea where they are in the store. I will never set foot in this place again. There are plenty of places to get lousy service at lower prices. ps Here's an idea: Ban your employees from having their phones with them on the sales floor. There is plenty for them to do without resorting to playing candyland. They can sweep, organize the bins full of nuts and bolts, tidy up displays, etc. read more

Had a great experience today at Ace Hardware on Neil St. In Champaign. After going to several automotive stores that didn't have what I needed, Ace evaluated and found the right screws to attach license plates to my RV. Then they came outside with me and installed the plates to my vehicle as well. Collin Clark was the sales associate that helped me. Very polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. Made my day! If this is the kind of service they give their customers on a regular basis, I will be back! read more

I'm just grateful to have a hardware store near Savoy. My "MO" is to make *several* trips for fasteners and other supplies each time I'm doing a project. So happy to have this hardware store nearby. And...the men and women who work there really seem to know their stuff. I have made a personal commitment to shop there. We should keep these folks in business--in that particular location. Sometimes slightly lower price means going out of your way to get to the store, right? read more

Poor customer service during my last visit. An employee didn't want to fetch an ordered item from back of store. Made excuses about needing to wait for the store manager who had stepped out even though other staff were around and he was available to look. After waiting awhile, I pointed out that they must have a place where orders are kept. He then admitted he had seen the order and finally went to get it. read more
