Location is two blocks from my home so it's really convenient instead of having to go to the big box stores. I bought a Torrent 7-Pattern Nozzle garden hose sprayer. This thing is a beast with a price tag to match at $26.99. But considering I've probably spent over $50.00 on cheaper, plastics made sprayers over the last seven years, I'm hoping this one lasts at least ten years. It comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty which I'll have to look into to see what it covers I like shopping at Ace as it's easy in, easy out and the prices can be a little more but my time is valuable. I came in 6 minutes before closing and the first key didn't come out correct so I asked him to try again and he did and it was perfect. The only thing I can ding are the lack of things, which, thing is, how could they compete with the big boxes? Customer service, far and away, is what keeps me coming back to Ace. Of the six or so visits I've made over the last two months, three times I've left skunked. No, Ace doesn't have the shelf space for That One Thing you need, but they have a surprising selection of nuts and bolts, literally. Easily my favorite aspect of this location and the San Mateo outlet are the friendly, no-nonsense employees that ask, upfront, what you're looking for. If you're going to be skunked, you'll only spend about ten minutes figuring it out. read more

I ordered 4 Christmas decoration items on October 29. It is now 4 days into December and they have not yet been shipped. One item is apparently on backorder, the others are scarce. The local store has tried to be helpful, but has had trouble getting information. Ace has not communicated with me in any way -- no email or phone calls. I love this store. The employees have consistently gone above and beyond for me. Examples: the time my dog ran right thru our patio's screen door. I couldn't fit the door frame into my suv. So I'd resigned that I'd have to buy a screen repair kit instead and do it myself. Ugh. After talking with them the offered to come to my house and pick up the screen, fix it, and bring it back to me. No extra charge. Heck yeah! Now THAT is amazing service. I had another of my screens done there not long ago and when it didn't quite fit, the gentleman happily redid the screen for me. I appreciated that tremendously. Today I inquired about the grills on display. When I wasn't sure about what they offered, they looked online and told me I could get another grill model at Lowe's. Who does that? Amazing. But because of that, and the fact that if I got a grill from them, they would assemble it and deliver it for no charge, I of course found a grill there at Ace and went with them. I always get the impression from advertising that Ace is the place you can just show up with a vague idea of what you need. Then after a few words with a wise and experienced employee, they know just what you need and have you on your way, more knowledgeable than when you entered. Alas, every experience I have ever had at Ace has been just the opposite. While the layout of the store is pleasing, selection is nice, and the store is clean... I have never met an employee there that was in anyway helpful. They do try and they are very nice about it. They even ask each other for help, dutifully putting their heads together to solve my, apparently very complex, questions. After much muttering and looking at their computer, I always leave without what I wanted. And either go to Home Depot or just order off Amazon. Hey! It's not for lack of trying! read more

They walked me to items I asked for and also went to get other stuff I wanted. The store was organized and offered a variety to choose from. They had a ton of adorable decor items and stock which would make great gifts. I loved their garden supplies--pretty painted animal pots and such. Prices were reasonable. The analogy isn't perfect, but going to (at least this) ACE Hardware is like going to a pharmacy when you could have instead gone to WalMart: You will pay a bit more but it is often worth it. You walk in and it is always easy to find someone to help you! Actually, they will come find you. I've been in on numerous occasions and have been continually impressed by the staffs' knowledge and willingness to help. At this point, there are a few people I see often who remember me and ask follow up questions on past projects. Back to the analogy I started with: There is less selection and the cost is a bit higher! But, more often than not, I can still find exactly what I need and I can find it MUCH faster (and I can always *easily* find someone to help). The staff are what really make the difference! I've just been chatting as I find what I was looking for and often, in the course of the discussion, get really great advice on things I wasn't even asking about! Quick Tip: Take a picture of what you need or the part. Better yet, bring it in with you! My wife brought in a table she was trying to restore but couldn't get some discoloration out of. The employee took the table over to the shelf, and directly matched it with what we needed! Also, it's just a bonus that they have popcorn on the weekends! And they allow dogs which is good because he cleans up all the popcorn I drop. read more

I went to purchase a Traeger smoker from them and they were very helpful. They had a good selection of smokers in a lot of different price ranges. They also had plenty of accessories and pellets. CRAPPY CUSTOMER SERVICE! I needed to order some door screens. They told me I had to come in, give them the measurements, pay and wait for them to be made. I don't live nearby, so I said "I have the measurements and I'll be happy to pay over the phone by credit card." They said "No, you HAVE to come in!" Upon entering the store on Golf Course, I was greeted by an employee asking if he could help me find something. I said I was looking for Quikrete and he showed me where it was. Another employee asked how many bags I wanted. He loaded the Quikrete on a cart and wheeled it up to the cash register while I shopped for another item. The Manager walked me through ever little process of being a chainsaw owner. I also bought my wife a present. They have NFL shoe wine holders. My wife will love it for her new house. This is my Ace Hardware, but I often go to the other ones. They are all a bit on the small side, kind of crowded, but I can always get what I need. Toilet plunger? They got it. (Side note: price matters in issues concerning clogged toilets. I got the cheap plunger, thinking, no way I'm hanging on to this after its been in the soup, so I'm not going to spend more money on something that is going in the trash. However, it was too bendy and it splashed up quite a bit of soup while I was using it, necessitating a haz mat wash down of my person. Get the more expensive plunger. You'll thank me later when you don't find poo in your hair.) Potting soil and mulch? Got it. Cleaning products? Big selection. Decorative tool boxes? Yes. Everything else you can imagine? Yes, of course. The stores are always staffed by real people who want to talk to you, if that is what you want as well. I have never had to hunt for something, including help. They are right there ready to get what you need in your hands. Here's the thing, though. This particular Ace is right across the street from the Death Star also known as Wal Mart, and I have "friends" who say, "But you can get it cheaper over there." Sure you can, but I would ask you to think twice. Look, if everyone goes to the Death Star just to save a couple of pennies, that will eventually drive out the small guys, the local stores, the independents. And we will all be poorer for it, both literally and figuratively. I won't lecture, but do a little research on the business practices of Death Star and how they unfairly manipulate prices and treat employees and then decide if saving a few bucks is worth it. I feel pretty good about spending my money here, and I hope you do, too. read more

OK, I gotta admit this....when I read the reviews talking about the poor service they had received when visiting Ace, I was mentally bracing myself for the same sort of scenario. Well, I was WRONG!! Before I even stepped foot into the store, an employee happened to of finished helping an elderly customer by loading all of her purchased items into her car. At that point, he quickly spun on heels and asked if I needed any assistance finding something in particular. When I gave him my list of things to get, he walked me straight to each aisle and offered up a variety of suggestions on various things. After his awesome customer service, I ventured around the store to check out what they offered. The store is very organized and I was approached by several other employees to make sure if I needed any help at all when it came to finding anything else. I gotta say, it was refreshing to have staff thats willingly HELPFUL. Home Depot...take some lessons from Ace in terms of customer service!! I am grateful that this store exists. I got the dreaded call at work that there was an unfortunate super glue incident at home. Once looking on line, i realized that I was in desperate need of some acetone. I darted to my local Ace Hardware which is about two minutes from my house, but also on my way home from work. Once in the store, I saw two employees near the paint department. I was greeted and quickly directed to the solvent isle. There was not a lot of choices as far as brand names, but I don't need a dozen choices of acetone when we have glued fingers at home. The exit was fast, there was no line. I think this place is perfect for our area since they seem to have a little bit of everything. read more

If Home Depot was closer, I wouldn't go here at all. High prices and limited selection. They usually have someone helpful but it's usually not the first person you find. Please note each store is separate and don't follow the same guidelines. In Tucumcari, Ace is actually Lowe's even though it all says Ace. Returns are problematic because of this. Single store returns, though slow and tedious are ok, but you cannot return an item from another store. Other chains have this figured out, it's not hard. Your funds will also take a few days to show up and only some employees know this and will tell you. Buyers beware. read more

One of my favorite hardware stores. From Adele, some of more mature staff, most helpful, to some of the younger staff. Yes, it's a smaller store and people are easy to find. But they always ask if need something, unlike the other big stores, where you can barely find help. About 6 months ago I remember being approached by a young woman who couldn't have been more than 18 yrs old, knew the exact items I was looking for, a particular electrical switch and plumbing part. She impressed me with her knowledge and "professional manner ". While this store may not have everything, I think there is plenty and they serve our community well. read more

I went here and had an employee by the name of Mark help me or at least try to. He didn't seem to know what he was doing. I SWEAR I had smelled alcohol on his breath. He's helped me multiple times and every other time he'd either smell of alcohol or be rude!! Everybody else that's helped me was super nice but I don't think he should work here AT ALL!!! If you're looking for a rip off and smug employees, go to your local ACE Hardware store! They send you great coupons, which, when you read the small print exclude most everything you would be looking for at a hardware store. And if the coupon does not exclude a particular item or brand, they have that covered too with the phrase: not valid on "other items that each participating store may designate. See store for details." And apparently the store makes such designations arbitrarily. We have used these coupons MANY times in the past for the purchase of dog food, but today the store or the smug clerk decided that same dog food would not be covered by their store coupon... I really wanted to support a local hardware store. My first trip in, everyone was so nice and helpful. Only problem, they gave me all the wrong information. I went back, got more bad information. I bought a defective product and getting it returned was like an Act of Congress. That friendly attitude went right out the door when a problem arose. According to the sales staff, there is no manager of the store. Nobody runs this place? I really wanted to like this store; they carry interesting things - which is why I first went to this location. Ok, Just my story here. I went to Ace, thinking that they would be the helpful place, but apparently they aren't. I am new to the area, and decided to give them a try, after being to Home Depot earlier that day. I figured that a smaller store would have more employees per person then HD. I was wrong. I am in there 45 minutes before anybody even says hi, or "how can I help you". The employee whom helped me was nice, however, it even took her several minutes to figure out where the bailing wire was. I went to the front, and the girl asked for the sku on a black iron pipe fitting. She asked for a sku on her headset for a galvanized pipe fitting, although I repeatedly told her it was a black pipe fitting (yea it's maybe a dollar more, but its the principle of the thing). She gets the number, and of course its galvanized on the computer. I had had enough, so I just paid and left. This was a poor decision to go here, and I won't go there in the future. Oh, and BTW, everything was overpriced by at least 30 percent. read more

Ace the not so helpful place!! I can only walk very short distances (recent prob) and I found out that they do not have any electric carts. A employee did go try to get what I needed, it didn't work and I brought it back the next day, and the same employee would not exchange it. Package was open. It was only a five dollar hose end, I had brought a piece of the hose with me the day before and he gave me the wrong size. He was a jerk. I went to Lowes and used the electric cart and found the right size and better product for less. Ace doesn't give s crap about handicapped people. read more

Every time I walk into the place I feel as if they are going to make fun of me. I use basic lay mans terms and they use the correct terms in order to find the tools I am looking for. Always seem to have the little stuff that I need to finish off household items, you know the infamous, Honey to do list that always seems to arise when you have a day off. Recently went into the store looking for several specific tools that were actually going to be used to re-build a frame of my new mountain bike. Fortunately for me they were quick to get me to the right section within the store, and also showed me the options that they had for the future work I plan to do.
