He was very talkative and seemed friendly, but he failed to mention that he had cracked the bottom of our fireplace box. I cleaned the fireplace box out before Joe was scheduled to be here, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I spent 20 minutes looking at the fireplace box and there was absolutely not a crack in it. After he left we went to look at the work that he had done, and noticed a long, deep crack down the center of the fireplace box from front to back. We called the company and spoke with a woman who told us that she would have somebody come out to fix our fireplace for us and asked me to take pictures and send them so he would have the proper materials. Shortly after I sent the pictures I received a call from Lyle, the owner of the company, who was extremely rude and basically called me a liar telling me that there was no way that they could have done the damage. It was clear after arguing back-and-forth with him for seven minutes that he had no intention of resolving the issue. He basically told me that it was not a problem and there was nothing that he could do to fix it, nor would he fix it because he didn't believe that his employee had broken it. When I told Lyle that the woman that answered the phone told us that she would have somebody come fix our fireplace, Lyle told me that she's just a secretary that answers the phone and she doesn't know anything. My only complaint is that on my first scheduled appointment time, he was a no show. I called and got no answer. He ended up calling hours later letting me know he was sick. This was understandable and we rescheduled. The next time, he called early saying he was on his way. I wasn't home since our appointed time was still a couple hours out. He started on the exterior inspections and luckily it ended up working out. There was little to no project management…read more Contractors were not aligned, not scheduled properly -- nobody was working to get our fireplace install done. Office care and follow-up was insufficient; no-one showed follow-up or leadership. I had to manage it all. And there was a lot of basic incompetence: the wrong fireplace being ordered and installed; the facade covering not being scheduled, then turning up in the wrong size. And so on. I have a busy working life, like we all do, and frequently I had to cancel work plans with little or no notice, to be at home to let contractors in, who then didn't or couldn't do their jobs. And when I reached out to the Hearth and Home office, fingers were pointed, but the job wasn't resolved. I'm left looking at a big invoice that I don't think this company has earned. They have made my life stressful, I'm really aggravated by the experience. Two months after I walked into the Sugar House office, the job still isn't done.
