We seriously looked like fish out of water (no pun intended) in that we were looking for fishing gear because we left all ours back in Chicago. The guy who ran the fishing and tackle department was so knowledgeable and even pointed us to the sale isle in that we were looking for something for the kids. The place was clean and organized - complete with an old fashioned popcorn maker and that darn gumball machine that my kids go crazy for. The nice young man at the counter and my husband exchanged about their military experiences and thank you's and we were on our way. BUT - that's not all! There was a great little market in the adjacent lot on Friday afternoon where we picked up some fresh veggies, bread and meat for dinner. Very charming place -- treated like the first customers of the day, even though we most likely kept them after close. Thanks Koltes!

While the store looks small from the outside, its inventory of products is surprisingly robust, allowing me to avoid the aggravation of shopping at the Madison Home Depot. While their prices are slightly higher, I save time and gas money by shopping locally. What I like most about the Waunakee Ace is the friendly and knowledgeable staff. I never have to search for an associate or wait helplessly at the help desk. Whether I need a certain type of wall hangers, the best paint option to touch up the bathroom wall or the right type of putty to repair a traditional plaster wall, the staff here patiently advises me on the pros and cons of each option. They make my trips to the hardware store soooo much faster and easier than any visit to a big box store. Other things I like: * Finding a good parking spot is always a breeze. * The Ace Rewards card offers rebates in the form of coupons based on how much you spend there. Even with my sporadic purchase history, I've received at least $50 of free stuff over the past couple of years.

I was brought up front to finish the Check out and handed over to someone else to complete the process. All-in-all it was about a 2 hr job from When I walked in to order to When I Walked back Out. Originally we were told that the install dates were about 2 weeks out and someone would be calling me for an install date. Two weeks later I called to check on an install date and was told my order had been cancelled. WHAT?!! Turns out that the different carpet ordered for a porch was canceled in error. They did offer 50% discount on the porch carpet which was a small room and Consisted of a price about $50 less. install date was 4 weeks from the order date. I received a phone call one day for The house carpet and received a call the next day for a different install date for the porch carpet. I asked them to please install all the Carpet on The same day. Installation day arrives and I received a call telling me they were loading up now and would arrive in 15-20 minutes which turned into about an hour later. Maybe they stopped off for breakfast?
