For once in my life, I hadn't backed up a drive (that I had no reason to think was about to fail...but that's my fault all around). If you've ever been kicked to the curb in a relationship and had no idea what happened, but you had your heart and soul in it and no matter what you tried, you couldn't fix it, well, you'll understand the feeling I had. In the case of my hard drive, however, I was glad I found Ace Data Recovery, who could fix it. My drive had some precious data and artwork on it, and Ace Data got it back. As you likely know or will find out, this is not a cheap proposition. All drives will eventually fail and, fortunately, these days it's fairly inexpensive to buy a good external drive. But if the day comes that you're stuck and need an honest assessment by a reputable company...this is a good one. Diana and Don were very helpful and responsive, and I got back everything I'd hoped for. Fwiw, I spent several weeks after first contacting them, learning everything I could about data recovery and comparing prices. Ultimately, it became obvious that it's faster and safer (and cheaper in the long run) to take your drive to an expert. The price I received from Ace Data was consistent with other places of the same caliber! My external hard drive crashed with multiple work and personal documents and photographs. Insanely expensive. Response time was great, but they wanted $350 to get files off of a CD that my Mac couldn't read, but some Windows PCs could. With so much important data I wanted to carefully choose who I would to trust to do this. I called several places locally and out of state and after talking to Don I was convinced that ace was the place. I knew it would be expensive but worth it if 95% of the data was recovered as they promised. It took a little longer than I expected but they were able to recover roughly 99% of my data. It was organized in the same folder structure as it was before the failure on a small little passport drive. I'm very happy. One of the guys there gave me great advice on how I should be backing up my data. There are so many methods at varying expense, he really gave me valuable insight that is best for me. I now know it's worth it to spend on a good backup system to avoid going through the stress of seeing your files dissappear. ACE did everything I could ask. My external WD Hard Drive decided one day to quit working. I had a lot of photos on there that I needed to recover. I originally took it to another data recovery company in Dallas, however I felt a bit uneasy with what they quoted me over the phone after they troubleshot it, and decided that I would get a second opinion. Data recovery, for those of us who work in IT familiar with it, is a preposterously expensive proposition, and usually a last resort when the finality of permanent data loss is not an acceptable result, whether it be for our customers or for ourselves. It is an expensive lesson in that the price of prevention would be so much less. With that said... Ace sets and maintains the standard for professional data recovery using state-of-the-art methods in state-of-the-art facilities. It costs. But the when the alternative is photographs, documents, and memories being lost forever, the price doesn't seem quite so steep. My wife was so unfortunate as to have three external hard drives fail prior to her noticing any symptoms of impending doom, as the externals were used only for archiving photos that she rarely looked at. Still, those photos being lost forever was not an option, and Ace was able to quickly recover the data and ship it to us on a portable hard drive. They can't recover all the data in every case, but in our case they did, for the price they estimated, and in a day less time than they estimated. It's a win-win. Realize going in that recovering a hard drive that your computer can't recognize is going to cost serious money, and adjust accordingly. The clean room is expensive to maintain, and that's usually where your drive will end up having to be repaired if your computer won't recognize it. Those are extraordinarily highly qualified and trained IT guys doing the work, and they live in the DFW Metroplex, which ain't cheap. Scam company. Told me on the phone they can open Western Digital Helium drives. When they got the drive, they said they could not open it because it was a helium drive. It is very funny that ACE Data would wait 8 months to reply to this review. Humorously that probably would be how long we would have waited to receive service. This a moot issue at this point. But to call a customer's claims false is an exaggeration since we had to engage another reputable more dependable vendor to do a simple task as replace the media or even offer to take deposit and once the defective media was returned to refund the discount. Deep experience in data recovery! I recently had a Seagate NAS drive that was rendered inaccessible. Best Buy recommended I take it to ACE Data Recovery. ACE ended up having to rebuild the entire drive to access the data. I am extremely pleased with the results now that I can access all my data. ACE was able to lift all the half-terrabyte of data and copy to a new external hard drive. These guys also do a free diagnostic. However be prepared that data recovery is an expensive proposition.
