I want to thank Ethan, the service manager, for taking the time out of his busy day to personally call me and explain the company's position regarding my review. I appreciate the effort to clarify the misunderstanding. According to Ethan, the business does not require payment upfront. Instead, the text we received was a pre-approval link meant to inform us of the potential cost following a diagnostic. Unfortunately, this wasn't clearly communicated during my original call with Lou. If he had mentioned that we'd receive a text requiring approval before any work could be done--and that payment would only be due after the diagnostic--I would not have left a one-star review. From a customer's perspective, receiving a $200+ link without prior explanation understandably creates the impression that payment is required in advance. This was a clear miscommunication, and I'm willing to chalk it up as such. That said, I strongly recommend the business makes this process more transparent in future calls. Customers should be clearly told: 1. They will receive a text with a pre-approval link. 2. No payment is due until after the diagnostic is complete. In today's climate, transparency is critical, and many customers--like myself--may feel uneasy approving charges before their vehicle has even been seen. He initially did body work to my car, which I was VERY happy with, but just days later, my splash shield light came on, then my check engine. I am not necessarily saying they caused this (can't confirm they didn't either, as they were the only ones who worked on my car). So I took my car back shortly after, and Eddie said he did the diagnostics for free. He then charged me for an oil change (that I didn't need at the time). I emailed Eddie asking for my diagnostic results, which he said he would get to me, but he never did. I had to take my car somewhere else, and it turned out to be a simple sensor issue that they promptly fixed, and I haven't had an issue since.

This mechanic shop is attached to the Stevens Forrest Exxon, located just off of Rt. 29 and Broken Land Parkway in Columbia MD (not far from my home). Due to their proximity to my house, I stopped in there to service my Ford Explorer about two years ago. They replaced the serpentine belt and damaged my vehicle by forcing too much refrigerant into the system. I discovered this once I took it to another shop, and they told me that whomever worked on my serpentine belt, damaged the system. With that bad experience behind me and needing a state inspection for a different vehicle, last week (03/16/26) I figured this would be a quick in and out process. They advised that it would take approximately two hours to complete and they would contact me. After four hours, I called them for an update. They advised that my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee had failed the state inspection because of its windshield tint and faulty rear windshield wiper. I was shocked at what they said was the cause of the failure, but I literally laughed out loud when they said that the repairs would cost over $600. I kept my composure as I advised them I was headed back to their mechanic shop to retrieve my vehicle. This experience cost me $150 Since this vehicle is a work vehicle, I took it directly to a Jeep Dealership in nearby Clarksburg MD for them to perform the state inspection. They did advise that the tint would need to come off due to state inspection regulations, but they advised that my rear windshield wiper was functioning just fine. Now I am not sure what occurred for the rear windshield wiper to "fail" at their location, but function perfectly fine and "pass" the next morning at dealership. Also, Auto Obsession lists tinting as one of their services, so I would believe they could have simply offered to take the tint off my two front windows. I am still clueless on the faulty rear windshield wipe scam they attempted to run on me. In conclusion, I have had two unpleasant experiences with this location, and I would not recommend anyone utilizing their mechanic shop services. I will share pictures of both state inspection receipts to show what Auto Obsession claimed was a failure vs what the Jeep dealership performed to pass the same state inspection.

They both are extremely personable and customer service oriented - Jesse kept me updated daily while my car was being evaluated, and they both took time to explain what was going on in a way that was easy to understand. I like that they take pictures of everything and provide a full report of what's going on - it is very helpful. One thing to note is that I did pay $170 to evaluate what was going on with my check engine light, which seemed a little high but I don't have much locally to compare it to so it's hard to say if that's unusual. Just something to be aware of if you want to bring your car in for that, I guess. Anyway, between the good customer service and the proximity to my house, I am sure I will be a long term customer.

Unfortunately, the front desk manager refused to honor the agreement. After looking at the warranty paper, she demanded an upfront diagnostic fee before any work or inspection could begin. When I explained that a lifetime warranty on the part and service should cover the inspection to verify the failure, she refused to discuss the matter. Instead of talking professionally, she yelled "Excuse me!", walked away, and ordered us to leave the shop while refusing to address our other repair needs.We have been customers here in the past, but the complete lack of professionalism and the outright refusal to honor their own written warranty is unacceptable. Potential customers should beware that AutoStream may not stand behind their lifetime guarantees.
