So, I called a different company, and they said they wouldn't make a definite appointment either. On Monday the other company called me early in the morning, offering to get my car and I said to come on over. Several minutes later I got a call from an unknown number saying, " I'm on my way". Assuming it was the other company's operator I said OK. Then both trucks showed up minutes apart. Apparently, the call I received was from the Brown's driver. After the other company had started hooking up my car the Brown's driver came up my driveway and demanded payment for a service call. The driver for the other company offered to leave for no charge, but I had committed to them and let him take the car. The Brown's operator still charged me for showing up but doing nothing. I payed him, but never again!

I was heading west on I-74 this afternoon when my engine started making a loud noise. Cooling fluid was all over the engine and I needed a tow. After calling another towing company and getting only an answering machine (the place is apparently not open on Sundays), I called Southtown. I was told that they could get a tow truck out to me in 20-25 minutes. Just about 25 minutes later, a tow truck came out to get me. The driver, Mike, was a friendly guy. He quickly got the car off the exit ramp and got me towed back home -- a 50 mile tow. The cost was very reasonable and the service could not have possibly been better. The first vendor dispatched by OnStar was a complete no show after being extremely condescending on the phone. Bird's was dispatched as a replacement by OnStar. Their driver, Kevin, contacted us for more info about location and needs as he was en route. He was very professional. We advised him that Illinois State Police had provided some guidance and we had contacted one of their recommended vendors, who was already on the way. Kevin asked that we call if/when that other vendor arrived, or he would continue to our location to assist. How wonderful was that?!?! The other vendor did arrive and we notified Kevin.
