We asked around for any of our friends and neighbors that had a similar problem and if so, who did they use to fix it. We had a neighbor with similar issue and gave us a company name. We called, they came out, and didn't even go up in the attic to look at it and quoted us $6500 to replace it. When we asked why they won't inspect it, their response was anything 15 years needs to be replaced. So we opted for a second opinion. Jose from Coastal Breeze Heating and Air came out and climbed up into the attic and gave everything a look over. He found that the capacitor was melted and leaking oil. He replaced it and tested the heat and fan. Everything checked out. He also commented that the furnace is in excellent condition and should last many more years. Parts and labor cost me $245. What a value considering the other company trying to gouge me. A big thank you to Jose. He is based in Lompoc but covers Santa Barbara and San Luis counties. I can't recommend Jose and Coastal Breeze Heating and Air enough! If you want an honest and fair assessment on your HVAC needs, make sure to include Jose @ Coastal Breeze in your search of companies. Coincidentally, the same day the furnace was scheduled for service, we had a flood (sewer stoppage), so we thought we'd just go with the same company. Big mistake. The plumber who came was "after hours" so they weren't going to go through warranty, we had to pay $350 just for him to come. He couldn't diagnose source of the problem... he told us he didn't have the equipment, so they would need to continue the next day. The next day, a different plumber from Jerry's came, who had no knowledge of the previous attempt, but after we filled him in, he said he said could do the work, just needed to get us a price, and then he just LEFT without a word... we called Jerry's and they said first that he had other jobs to go to (obviously we weren't a priority), then said we were trying to pay them for the job through our warranty company (we weren't), and they wanted to be paid privately (which we said over and over, we were going to). After an agonizingly patronizing conversation, it was apparent this company had no intention to actually help us (just collect money for showing up) and was ill equipped to neither discuss nor complete the plumbing work needed, so after 2 days of being unable to use our plumbing, we decided to go elsewhere for our plumbing issue (but Jerry's did decide to cash in on the "service call" though, to get paid by our home warranty!!!) A week later, we tried to check on the status of our furnace repair only to find out from our warranty company that Jerry's submitted a "job complete" invoice to them (again, making sure they got paid for not doing any work), and we were going to be transferred to another service provider bc Jerry's was not going to come out to complete the service bc they received a bad review about walking out on our plumbing issue. It is January, the overnight low is going to be 40 degrees, and Jerry's plumbing and heating doubled down on walking away from their customer, literally leaving us in the cold, without explanation. Do not trust these guys.

Unfortunately, our A/C was shot. However, they quickly ordered our new HVAC system and were able to come out today (Thursday) to install. Within 4 days, we are back up and running. Their team was so communicative and respectful while at our home. Colten was so quick to answer our emails and kept us informed about the status. Jesus came through first day and was so motivated to try and solve our issue but our system was 34 years old and it was time to replace. We will definitely be using Allstar again. Cannot recommend them enough!

They then charged me to send a technician out who didn't know how to fix it after 1.5 hours of work. When I complained they offered to install a new thermostat for $320! When I persisted in complaining and asking for service, THEY BLOCKED MY PHONE! (Finally I found a solution myself by spending over an hour in several calls to Honeywell's service line.) NO HELP OR CONCERN FROM HOMEPATIBLE. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Matthew's response is inaccurate! We did not ask for a new thermostat! They offered it. It was not functional because it was installed wrong, as I later learned through my own research with Honeywell. There was absolutely no need for the $320 upgrade David proposed, and his proposing that was a profound insult! Blocking my phone was utterly unprofessional! There was no need to charge me for a service call by someone who didn't even know the easy fix that the competent and helpful tech at Honeywell advised me to do over the phone. And Homepatible's intransigence continued even knowing this was a health-related problem due to severe allergies and wanting to filter the air in our home. If this were a reputable company, they would have fixed it right away. Now if they are reputable, they will admit their mistake and refund my $89 for the useless service call!
