I've been a member since this credit union was Alliance Financial. I joined in 2003 and the credit union was very member friendly. They were very oriented about helping their members with accessing their money, getting line of credit loans, and getting low interest rate loans for cars. I'm very grateful for what they have done for me in that era. Since it became Access Credit Union, they have changed their mindset on being member oriented, and more about keeping the members money in their pocket. They stopped line of credit loans, restricted electronic transfers to outside banks, and just recently stopped members from having an ATM card to their savings account. They told me on the phone I could get another ATM card if I open a checking account. I'm sorry, but that is not what a Credit Union is supposed to be about. I appreciate all the help they have given me in the past, but this place has become more of a business and is not about the membership anymore. After I pay off my current loan with them, I am done with this organization. I do Thank you Nora and Maya who has always been helpful to me here. Two solid employees!!! Closed accounts at Access Credit Union due to overdraft fees, dormant account fees, etc, etc., as well as poor customer service. I have been a member at Great Lakes Credit Union for over 20 years and have never had any of these charges applied to any of my accounts, and their customer service has been very good. Access Credit Union needs to reevaluate what their existence is for since it certainly isn't for the members who join. read more

I have been with this credit union for over 20 years and trying to get an auto loan has been very difficult. Not sure what happened, but Maya and Tony did not provide good customer service or helping a member who has been with them for so long and proved to them that I am a good member. This is a terrible and racist location. I have a regular bank account but I wanted to try and open credit union account. From the time I walked thru the door til I left I felt some kind of way, it was a racist feeling. Yeah I'm black and have dreadlocks in my hair but I'm a truck driver making 100k a year don't look at me and judge me. I give them all my information first the lady say u need at least 50 dollars to open an account bitch I can put 50k in there right now if I wanted. Then she comes back and says my address don't match the address on my ID. So I explained I just purchased a house 2 blocks away and emailed my loan documents from morgage provider. She says that's not good enough I need to change my ID and come back and open account. I got up and walked out. This is a bank by all means and best way to explain why is to tell you my experiences with Access "Credit Union". I was a member of a real credit union "Alliance Financial CU" but Alliance merged into Access CU. I had a perfect history with Alliance with over a dozen loans all paid and paid on time. I went to Access credit union in Jul of 2012 for a car loan. They approved me but with 12% interest!!! I was able to get financed somewhere else for 5%. In Oct of 2012 I tried to get a small unsecure loan for a ring. Access Credit Union would not loan me a cent without collateral. I found a ring at Jared and was able to do in house financing for 0% for one year. Credit Unions are supposed to give you better interest loans thats why you become a member right? Doesn't matter how good of a payment history you have with Access Credit Union they solely go off your credit score. Access obviously has a very strict loan policy because on both occasions I was able to get much better financing else where after trying Access CU. To add to my poor experience, after the second bad experience I told the finance lady I was going to speak to my job about changing credit unions. She replied. "ok" and couldnt of cared less. Strongly recommend you find a different Credit Union because there is no benefit in becming a member at Access CU. read more

Credit unions, by their own charters, are to exist solely for the benefit of their members; any profits realized are to be put back into the credit union in the form of member goods and services. A blurb from the Access Credit Union website: "...enjoy the advantages of a membership in a not for profit member-owned financial co-operative." Given all of the hyperbole, perhaps you can tell me why you think it's a good idea to charge me a 'dormant account fee' of $10.00 per month? Just for grins, here's the definition of dormant: lying asleep or as if asleep; inactive, as in sleep; torpid. So: my money is just lying there, quietly sleeping, bothering no one, taking up zero space. At the same time, it is making itself available for you to use in making loans to members. For free. You may call it a 'dormant account fee,' but I call it stealing. Lipstick on a pig is still a pig. You can bet your sweet pork chops that I'll be closing my account. No doubt that $30 you stole from me is somehow being rationalized by greedy corp speak to fit in your business model of 'not for profit.' Shame, shame, shame on you. Not for profit, my happy ass. I have been with this bank for 22 years and I'm done!! They charge me for going below a certain amount. It's MY money. They have zero customer service skills. I can see I'm not the only one by all these other reviews. I just got off the phone with Nora and she obviously doesn't care about keeping members, seeing as how she was giving me information on how to find another credit union when I complained about their service. They must not care about losing a 22 year member over 10 bucks. I will be closing my account , along with my daughter's account. I do not care if I have $1.00 in my account. You have no right to charge me $10.00 of MY money. read more

I agree with every person who has given this credit union a negative rating. You can get approved quicker and with less of an interest rate at any other place in the world of financing. Oh and by the way I have pretty decent credit. I don't know who sits on this board, but they should know that the people that run this place are bad for business. Or maybe they know and don't care. Nora was instrumental in assisting me with updating my account. She actually stayed on the phone and walked me through each step. The process took about 20 min. I don't know of an organization these days that would take that much time to explain AND walk me though everything. read more

I've been a member of Access for maybe 20 years now, and I've had nothing but positive dealings with this CU. My first loan with them, I needed a co-signer, I was a new member with crappy credit. Since that 1st one, I have had at least a dozen loans on my own without hassle...with a mediocre credit score to boot!! When I say without hassle, I mean the money's in my account within a hour or two of completing the application. You don't get service like that with your Wells Fargo's or B of A's. I've had fraudulent charges on my account 3 different times and the money is replaced during my initial phone call. Just recently we've experienced a very difficult financial hardship, Nora, Lupe, Sandy, Rocky, and the rest of the Access staff went above and beyond there responsibilities to make sure the process was as painless as it needed to be.... This credit union has fees worse than a bank, matter fact WORSE than my previous bank TCF and they were pretty bad. There commitee needs to step up and act like a real credit union if they want to keep their members and their name.....enterprise rental cars sales isnt going to keep them alive! I joined through my work almost a year ago. I set up a savings account only. The one day I needed someone to help me it took them over 4 hours to call me back. They are not friendly or helpful. I plan on closing my account and putting it else where. My other bank PNC has always been so helpful and very friendly whenever I needed anything.
