You'll want water and a towel!

I went with a friend to try FLEXCity for free. I had never done this type of workout, so I wasn't…read moresure what to expect. FLEXCity specializes in interval-based fitness training, incorporating strength training, cardio, and flexibility into each class. Every class is different, but in the class I went to, we did spinning, running on a treadmill, floor-based strength exercises and TRX. You are constantly moving and rotating to different exercises - you never do any one exercise for more than about 3-5 minutes. The instructor, Cora, was awesome at keeping everyone on track and focused on each activity. She was really helpful and even showed me around the machines before class so I knew what to expect. Overall, I had way more fun than I was expecting but I was definitely incredibly sore for several days after! It's a unique and fun way to get in a workout! Note, the Grand Rapids location has a large parking lot in back but they like you to use the front entrance. Get there 10 minutes before your first class so the instructor can show you around and don't forget a towel... you're gonna sweat.

Are you looking at this review right now because you wonder just how nice it would be to have a…read morepersonal trainer that understands your specific fitness needs, supports you in goal setting, helps keep your statistics tracked, and remains flexible in scheduling? Well, I'm so happy for you because you finally found him! Ian is fantastic at keeping my training sessions upbeat, positive and relaxed. He helps me focus more of the crappier energy I have towards gyms on my workout/learning process in a more positive and engaged manner. Fitness training is tough work mentally and physically, so you can at least be guaranteed support in these departments of life with your time spent in the gym. Focusing more on my direct experience in session: it's chill and kind of fun now. I can lift weights in different positions and connect the why behind why I'd choose higher/lower weights for various exercises when I'm at the gym alone. I learned this from Ian. He shows you what to do, you follow, now you know! We overcomplicate too much on our own and my time with Ian is helping me develop my "gym identity". I can already tell leg days are a hit.. Keep it pushin' and make a new friend! You won't regret your time spent with Grand Rapid's #1 fitness trainer.. Ian Hall!! *DISCLAIMER: I am just a guy learning how to get stronger and needed an accountability buddy to help and am very happy with my progress so far. AI did not write this review. Just want people to know when they've found an honest and caring person to help them. Toodles!

I've done personal training at Phoenix in the past and they also have classes. I went to a barbell…read moreclass recently and had a lot of fun. The personal training sessions were useful for me because I started working out at home during the pandemic and wanted to make sure I was using proper form during strength exercises. It was cool to try out different equipment I normally wouldn't have access to at home, like the sled (I felt like a pro football player pushing that thing), barbells, boxes, rower machines, etc. I was also pushed to go a little harder than I might during my own home workouts, but never to a point where I felt like I might be injured. My personal trainer worked with me to modify any movements I needed, and listened to my preferences when it came to full body vs. upper/lower body workouts. Of course there were some exercises I didn't particularly love (*cough cough* wall ball slams), but the point is to be challenged because that's when growth happens! Sounds corny but it's true. The barbell class was super fun. It was a small group of six and we started with warmups and agility, then moved into different barbell exercises like deadlifts and shoulder presses. We ended with some core work and it was a great workout! I was definitely sweating but loved the supportive and fun atmosphere of the class. They also offer other group classes like yoga and have memberships or drop in rates. The facility is super clean and there's lots of parking. It's a woman-owned gym that feels very inclusive and welcoming.

The trainers know what they're doing and can help no matter your level, and the heavy bags are perfect for letting out some kinetic frustration. I had a huge injury at one point, and she worked with me on my membership so I could jump right back in once I was done rehabbing it. I strongly recommend getting wraps for your wrists and hands, since it makes a world of difference. If you don't know how, come to class early and they'll help you out.

In addition to xfit workouts, they also do a strength and conditioning program and soft tissue work.
