We went to Accanto based on reading the two reviews posted here. It was quite busy and we had no reservation so we sat at the bar (which we like to do anyway). Nico, the bartender, is a master mixologist whose creativity and execution of the cocktails were only surpassed by his friendliness. (Try the Ernesto!)
Being vegetarians, it can sometimes be a challenge to find something beyond the typical Trophie al Pesto, but Accanto had no problem making us happy. The Magliatta and the Raviolis were amazing! The wine list was quite reasonable and they were very helpful in assisting us in our choice.
We were back for lunch a couple of days later and had wonderful crepes with asparagus. Alessandro, our waiter, was always right there to recommend something and answered all of our questions. He gave us a tour of the wine cellar and showed us the patio in the back which would have been great if we were there in the summer.
The next day, colleagues had arrived and after dinner at another restaurant of their choice, we took them to Accanto for desserts (and Ernestos!) They were all great but the Tirami Piu was the favorite of the group. They loved it so much we were back for dessert 2 nights later with even more people.
Finally, our last night in La Spezia, we had dinner there again. We started with the cheese plate called "Not the Usual Cheeses" and they meant it! The flavors were amazing and the owner, Andrea, provided us with a list and description of the 8 cheeses in Italian and English. After dinner, he brought his wife, the chef, over from the main restaurant next door where the food is prepared to say hello.
We love this place and will be sure to go back the next time we make it to La Spezia! read more
