I went to the Pasadena Academy store and experienced blatant racism and discrimination. I showed an employee a picture of the exact rifle I wanted only because it comes in multiple calibers and I wanted to be sure I purchased the correct one. Instead of helping me, he flagged me for a month. That action now prevents not only me but also my husband (same address) from purchasing any firearm, ruining our family trip in the process. When I returned and spoke with the store manager, Brandy, she gave me a completely pointless excuse for refusing to sell me the firearm. It felt like nothing more than another attempt to cover up how unfairly I was treated. I've purchased firearms at other Academy locations without any problem. In fact, employees at other stores admitted to me that they regularly hear customer complaints about the Pasadena location's mistreatment. If Academy allows this kind of discriminatory behavior to continue, you aren't just losing one customer you're losing many. I will never spend another dollar here and will be sharing my experience on Google, Yelp, Facebook, and with my entire network. Came to pick up my curbside order, two of the four spots were taken by cars not there for pick up, we found that weird already. Waited 10 plus minutes and nobody came, asked to speak to manager and she was the lady riffling through packages told her that I'd been waiting for ten minutes, looks at me all frustrated and says "yes sir I'm trying to find it", to which I replied "ma'am it's been 10 mins, this always happens here I never had this issue at target" she said "there also better staffed" as she was riffling though everything I saw my order told her it's there she said no it's isn't, I tried to show her the picture and she said "sir will you just let me look through it" GO TO DICK'S instead or really anywhere else like target y'all suck! read more

Hello. My Uncle Roger was walking into the Pasadena Tx. Location to grab some things. It's Memorial Day wknd. The greeter says here ya go w a flyer (10%off.) I see your cap he said. My Uncle wears a Navy cap as he's a Navy veteran. He got to register w his loot and he asked for his 10% discount to be asked for a military ID. He doesn't have one in his wallet. He was shocked to be asked about the id. The flyer didn't say you need a military id. This is sad the our military vets are b we bc treated like this. He purchased his stuff and left. Some employee stopped at least 4 people from going into the store within the few minutes it took us to walk up and back from the car. The reason? They were controlling access to the Astros t-shirts. Apparently they couldn't figure out how to put the shirts in one area and let people who were interested in other things actually go into the store. Great selection....just poorly ran. I purchased a pair of Brooks shoes and a few other items. While in the shoe dept, there were a lot of people there buying shoes. There were 3 associates in that area, but I think only 2 were assigned to that area because one would leave and come back. All they did was just stand together and talk. They never offered help and when they clearly saw someone needing some help, they didn't help....they just stood there gossiping. I was in that department for probably a good 25 min and never once did they help anyone. If there was a manger doing his/her job, they would have seen this. Clean bathrooms and good selection but I hope you don't need any help if you go here. read more

I don't know why the reviews are so low. Their selection is decent or better than other places, depending on what you're looking for, the staff is friendly and as knowledgeable as expected without going to a specialty store, the lines are quick enough, and returns are as easy as can be. I never have trouble finding help unless the employees are all already helping customers. I do wish they would have more checkouts open. The cashiers are quick enough, but when there's 10 people in each line, it's time for a new register. read more

Updated Review: My MIL gave me birthday money for some Converse. I didn't want to drive to Baybrook Mall, so I hopped over to Academy. Meh! First of all, I was greeted as I walked in. So yay to that apathetic lady whose sole job was to say hello. She did it. (She was literally leaning on an arm staring at the door as she said it, but I guess I should be glad she wasn't on her phone...) Secondly,the shoe department is a cluster. I mean, it's just a a mess of shoes. I found the Converse and there was absolutely no rhyme or reason to the boxes. -Were they organized by color? No. -Were they organized by size? No. -Were they organized by style? No. All of the above would have made sense, but no. They were shuffled, like a deck of cards, through out the shelves in a haphazard and disorganized mess. It took me more than 45 minutes to find the style and size I wanted and get out of there! And thirdly, the shoe department was chalked full of employees. I mean, they were everywhere. Did ANY of them ask me if I needed help? Of course not! One family couldn't find shoes, found someone to help them, he got a ladder and found shoes on the top shelf, and then when he got off the ladder the found the size they were looking for on the bottom shelf-and he was annoyed with the family! Are these people not aware that that the shoes need to be organized. I get the fact the customers mess the shelves up, but the employees are supposed to maintenance the shelves, too. I guess they weren't trained for that. The cashier was nice enough. He wasn't anything special, but as far as I can tell nothing at that store is. Anyway, I DID find Converse (thanks to me, myself, and I) and I did buy them. I do regret not going to Journey at the mall, I know they would have helped me find what I wanted much faster, but hindsight is 20/20 right?! Needless to say, I will go elsewhere for shoes next time. **************************************** I took my daughter in here bright and early to get some dance shorts. And when I saw early I mean it was 8:30 am. Most stores don't open until 9 or 10, so this was awesome. Major points for the hours. I'm in from out of town for a baseball tournament and woke up and realized I left my sons baseball cleats back home... our game is at 9 and have to be at the fields by 8... There was a worker outside and we asked if there was anyway we could please get in before opening hours and he rushed to his manager to get permission. The manager said "No problem, come on in!" And we rushed to the back... the manager even sent an employee to help us out to get us exactly what we needed and fast! Thank you so much! In the end they didn't have the exact shoes I wanted, even after the associate looked online to see if they could ship the shoes to my house. Just wanted to give a quick shout out to this location and its staff, specifically Miguel. I went in with the intention of purchasing a workout system due to COVID-19's impact on the nearby gyms. Miguel was super busy answering questions of patrons left and right. However, he remained calm and practiced patience with everyone as he assisted us. He exemplified unparalleled customer service to the other 2 people ahead of me, and he continued to do so once he got to me. The man was moving so much he was sweating, but he never stopped helping each of us until we were content. I will give it a two star for the gentleman that actually helped me behind the counter. He did a great job. The manager on duty that's the mid day manager is one rude individual period. I was purchasing a gun. He had to check me out, I get that. I was a pretty good distance away "he told me very rudely go over and wait and I will tell you when I'm ready" I was fuming. I'm 44 years old I don't need anyone to talk to me like that. I was like say what!!! I really wanted to express what was on my mind however I was purchasing a gun so it prolly not the best idea. So I pay, the manager does not say anything to me as I check out. I'm walking out and he just holds box out for me to grab. Doesn't look my way no thank you or anything. I don't care if he was having a bad day I refused to be treated rude. Those guys back behind the gun counter besides the older gentlemen with Red hair glasses, really need some customer service skills. Just about everyone of them are rude!!! With exception of Juan and the gentlemen I mentioned. Now I wish I could show my receipts the thousands of dollars I've done business with. I love academy, it's one of my favorite stores. But this one really disappointed me, I went yesterday specifically looking for a revolver at the gun counter. I was standing looking at the firearms for about 15 min. There was only one guy at the counter, I went over and asked if they had a Taurus Model 85 in Matte stainless(in stock) and he said "I don't think they make them in stainless" I was like seriously?! Do you not know or are you just not trying to help me. Since I got to the counter he was being rude and not even trying to help. He had the attitude of not wanting to be there or do his job.
