Had another awesome 1-hour Wellness Massage with "E" who is going to graduate soon. She's one of the best students I have ever had and I would say she's almost as good as some Rolfers and professional massage therapists I've had in the past!! She has a knack for pinpointing knots and tight areas and uses a scale from a 1-8 with 1 being the least achiness and 8 being the most achy. She communicates well and is very in tune with pressure points and if you need for her to back off when working on an area until it releases. It "hurts so good" so to speak and "no pain, no gain" is what I keep repeating to myself when she's working on an area until it releases. I'm breathing thru the pain, LOL!! I usually have her work on specific areas that are tight and this visit she asked if I it was okay to do some stretches as my left hip and quad were tight. That helped as well. I think "E" is well on her way to success and I told her she could work even at the Stretch Lab! I am impressed with the students that I've had here and their dedication to the craft. The quality and ambiance is as close to other Massage establishments I've been to but with very affordable pricing and frequent discounts usually during the holidays. I take advantage of their bundle promos. Parking can be a little hard to find close to the school as there are restaurants surrounding them. Leave enough time to find parking and for checking in. Bathrooms are very clean and tidy. There's also a hot/cold water dispenser near the lobby by the bathrooms so you can hydrate. The front desk gets busy in case you have to book an appointment over the phone ie using a gift card. You'll either have to try early in the morning or late in the day, otherwise you'll have to leave a voicemail. The online booking process was very easy. I booked a 1 hour deep tissue massage. The studio is located in the Park North Shopping center with a large parking lot. The inside wasn't the most modern or updated but was comfortable. There was gentle spa music in the background throughout. My massage was in a private room and my massage therapist was Susan. She was so professional in asking me my focus areas, with the draping, and got all my knots. She checked in frequently. It was truly a deep tissue massage. I felt like a new person coming out! It's located next to the SP Cafe. The wait wasn't long and I was called. The first part is 15 minutes in the whirlpool. The room was private. The water was a bit too hot for me, so I only soaked for about 10 minutes max. The jets did feel so good. Amber brought me to the Vichy shower area. First time to experience this. It was a massage table and I laid face down. She turned on the water then put on the lavender body scrub on my back. Washed that off then the mud mask on for about 10 minutes. The water was very relaxing. I dried off and headed for the massage. Amber had good pressure. Finished off with a mini facial. So glad I did this. Definitely worth the money! Customer service has significantly declined, which may explain the recent influx of new staff. The massage used to be a good value, but now the service doesn't justify the cost. I wouldn't recommend this place. The manager, Josh (the owner's son), was rude and dismissive. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he looked old enough to know better and didn't respond like a professional business manager to any customer, especially a longtime one. A new policy will be introduced in the new year but none of the staff can clarify price changes or cancellation policy. Spoke with another receptionist and she explained she will know more when management shares their plans with them. Had a deeply disappointing experience with this location. My wife scheduled a free prenatal massage as part of their student training program and was really looking forward to it for the second time. After taking time out of her day, preparing for the appointment, and arriving at the school, she checked in as planned. Everything seemed fine, and she was ready to relax and enjoy the session. However, after sitting for an hour in the waiting room, they canceled her appointment **on the day of**, after she had already arrived and checked in. This was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional, especially for a service as specialized as prenatal massage, where comfort and planning are key. Also staff did not offer no sort of compensation for her time. Not a slight discount or anything. While I understand things can come up, this last-minute cancellation left a bad impression. I hope the school improves its communication and scheduling practices to avoid disappointing others in the future. A little notice or consideration goes a long way, especially when it involves a vulnerable and time-sensitive service like prenatal care. My wife was to stressed to speak with management so when I found out I spoke with them on the phone and they offered a 15% discount to a future service. In my opinion that's not a good solution and it took my phone call to get that. I heard 3 other women the same day ran into the same problem and they left with no sort of solution. The owner needs to be prepared to have some sort of compensation for when a student therapist cancels on the same day. read more

Okay you all I love love the Academy for Massage. I have been here multiple times. They are affordable offering a wide variety and range of treatment. I truly want everyone to try this place. They have three campuses located in the San Antonio Metro area. I have been to 2 out of the 3 and both have been great. You can get an hour massage $48. They offer whirlpool tubs, foot soaks, facials, a lot of items you would see at a different massage place for a fraction of the price. This is a great gift for yourself or someone else. To be honest we need to look at massage as therapeutic instead of just a luxury. These students have helped me multiple times with pain issues. I'm very happy to recommend them whenever I get the chance. Which I do! Please do yourself a favor to help mitigate pain or even for luxury come to these establishments. It's not as bad as what other reviewers said. However, this is a student clinic means you may get some that are naturally talented, or others that just want to get the credit and get out. I purchased my massage deal from groupon once, and once from direct booking. They made the term very clear about their cancellation policy, so you have to be very precise with your time. Fair game. The massage itself is decent, definitely you can tell the difference between student masseur and professional working masseur but again, for the price that you are paying, you are still getting a great deal. My pet peeve is that the massage table is way too low, unlike other massage joint, it will be nicer if its tall like the regular massage table that we are accustomed to. Today was my first visit at the Academy of massage. I scheduled a 1.5 hour wellness massage. I was surprised when I walked in, you would never guess that you were getting a massage at a school. You would think you were at a legit spa. I have been going to another school here in San Antonio and now I will be going here. They have many options of services available for a great price. Now the massage, the student that did my massage was wonderful. She did a great job and was very professional. Now why is was only 4 stars and not 5....... The door in room 4 is warped, so to shut it all the way you have to push it hard. If you don't there is a small gap. During my massage there was another student that I could hear walking around that wouldn't pick up her feet. So you can hear her feet dragging down the hall. I paid $144 for one of their full packages thinking they would likely have an experienced student (or at least not brand new) assist me. Unfortunately no. I was this girls very first time. And she absolutely tanked, no pressure felt like she was just petting me the whole time, even when I asked for harder no less than 3 times!! When I told them it was so subpar they literally did nothing to make it right. Absolute waste of my time and money, would have been better off buying a groupon to a ra spa then deal with their level of BS. Oh and no cancellations 24 hours in advance or they charge your card full price anyways, even if you make your 'reservation' same day. Yeah, these people are thieves. I didn't wait long for my massage therapist in training and we started about ten minutes before my scheduled time slot. Everything was explained in great detail before starting and I was asked what areas I wanted to focus on. My therapist was very knowledgeable and attentive to my needs through the session. I believe she is about a month out from graduation and it showed. The techniques were great and I felt so much better after leaving. The Academy of Massage left me feeling just that way after a one hour wellness massage that ran me only $30. The price? Yeah, that's heavenly too. I had a student, Chris, who did the massage. He was very professional and gave me pretty much the exact experience I have received for massages that I have paid more than double for. The massage focused on my back, shoulders, neck, arms, legs and feet. He spent a good deal of time on my shoulders because, apparently, I have an "angry muscle" there. Chris worked on that muscle for quite a while and it didn't feel especially good--angry muscles usually don't--but I knew it would help later, so I dealt with it. Besides Mr. Angry Muscle, the massage felt amazing, relaxing and non-painful. The school is very nice and has a comfortable, classy lobby. The rooms are pretty small and the massage tables are just above the floor, so the massage therapist kneels while working on you. Since they don't have a changing area, you just undress in the room and then slip beneath the sheet on the massage table. You aren't allowed to tip the students, but you can put the equivalent in a box that goes toward their graduation fund. This place was professional, comfortable and great for getting a much discounted massage. They also do facials, wraps, pedicures and many other relaxing, body-cleansing procedures. This place is a legit school to learn about massage. But you don't have to be a student to take advantage of the benefits of this place. They give discounted massages so that the students can gain experience in massage. They offer a full array of services, from deep tissue massage, to more gentle stuff to facials. The masseuses are nice and friendly, and do a good job of explaining what they're up to, and asking if you're comfortable. The rooms are dark and quiet and feel safe. The waiting room is a bit on the weird side with overstuffed sofas and lots and lots of sofa cushions and pillows. Fortunately, there wasn't a wait to get into the room and getting started. The massages here are cheaper than the other places, and tipping is forbidden, although you can chip into their party fund for graduation. Having this many treatment rooms staffed with highly skilled massage students allows for plenty of availability so you can get your massage or spa package with relatively short notice." Well since they were booked out a month in advance, and to even see the schedule you needed to buy a gift certificate without a refund.
