Had another awesome 1-hour Wellness Massage with "E" who is going to graduate soon. She's one of…read morethe best students I have ever had and I would say she's almost as good as some Rolfers and professional massage therapists I've had in the past!! She has a knack for pinpointing knots and tight areas and uses a scale from a 1-8 with 1 being the least achiness and 8 being the most achy. She communicates well and is very in tune with pressure points and if you need for her to back off when working on an area until it releases. It "hurts so good" so to speak and "no pain, no gain" is what I keep repeating to myself when she's working on an area until it releases. I'm breathing thru the pain, LOL!! I usually have her work on specific areas that are tight and this visit she asked if I it was okay to do some stretches as my left hip and quad were tight. That helped as well. I think "E" is well on her way to success and I told her she could work even at the Stretch Lab! I am impressed with the students that I've had here and their dedication to the craft. The quality and ambiance is as close to other Massage establishments I've been to but with very affordable pricing and frequent discounts usually during the holidays. I take advantage of their bundle promos. Parking can be a little hard to find close to the school as there are restaurants surrounding them. Leave enough time to find parking and for checking in. Bathrooms are very clean and tidy. There's also a hot/cold water dispenser near the lobby by the bathrooms so you can hydrate. The front desk gets busy in case you have to book an appointment over the phone ie using a gift card. You'll either have to try early in the morning or late in the day, otherwise you'll have to leave a voicemail. The chat option online is pretty basic and won't be able to solve any complex issues or gift-card bookings. It just default-answers you back to the website or phone number.

The online booking process was very easy. I booked a 1 hour deep tissue massage. The studio is located in the Park North Shopping center with a large parking lot. The inside wasn't the most modern or updated but was comfortable. There was gentle spa music in the background throughout. My massage was in a private room and my massage therapist was Susan. She was so professional in asking me my focus areas, with the draping, and got all my knots. She checked in frequently. It was truly a deep tissue massage. I felt like a new person coming out! I've honestly paid more for worse massages, so definitely check out Academy for Massage Therapy and book with Susan if you want an effective deep tissue massage!

It's an amazing place to go get a massage at an extremely low price. Went with the two hour…read moreworksmart deep tissue massage over the wellness massage so they could spend more time focused on my shoulder and back area on the trigger spots. The cost was only $88 for the two hour total, and all other massages are under that. The tech started off going over any injuries or medical issues that I had to ensure that nothing was agitated or further injured due to the deep pressure techniques. During the massage, the tech made sure to inquire if everything was not too much and to just say something if the pressure was too much. They have a monthly platinum membership for $9.99 that gives 25% off services. Based on their chart, if you get anything above the 30-minute massage at least once a month, it would save you between $10-30 each time pending the service. Doing just one 45-minute massage and nothing else is still a break-even for the same price. I did attempt to tip the tech, but it was explained that they are not allowed to accept them as they are in training during their internship and not licensed yet. The techs are basically accumulating their hours as part of their required training. The staff was super friendly in whole and the place was really nice and relaxing. I will definitely be going back and also looking into the membership to save over time. The massage was just as good as going to any massage location, and it was interesting to hear about the schooling the techs go through.

You could tell she was nervous and unsure of what to do. We spent the first 15 min trying to sort out where to put my things and make sure the rooms were ready. Looking back, I should've asked how much training they go through before they are moved on to working on clients. The shower room was pretty cold - the mud mask had to dry for 10 min and I was freezing in there. The therapist came back to wash off the mud in the shower and when I told her that the water was too hot, she turned off the shower completely and used the high pressure handheld to spray me down. It was so uncomfortable. When we moved onto the massage, I asked for deep tissue and she said she knew how to but proceeded to press into my ribs and bones. It felt like she was missing my major muscle groups. She didn't touch my shoulders at all but decided to focus on my actual neck while pulling my hair in the process. The facial was also a weird experience. When she would wrap my face in the towel, she would squeeze my face significantly hard. She would also wipe the products into my hair. I felt like I should've ended the session a few times throughout the services but I felt bad for the therapist and uncomfortable with the situation. I payed and left but I can't honestly say I enjoyed any part of that service.

Instructors are very well educated and are very generous sharing their knowledge and experience with students. I felt the curriculum was structured to give me the best opportunity to be a well-rounded massage therapist. The education here enabled me to pass the MBLEx national licensing examination on the first try and I am now in process to obtain my Texas license. The clinic may be the best part of the experience, giving exposure to a variety of real-world clients and scenarios. The clinic director has a wealth of knowledge and skills and is a tremendous resource for students. The 60 minute massages on offer to the public for only $55 is the biggest bargain in Austin! If you're considering a career in massage therapy, this is the best place to go in Texas. Highly recommended.

It is a no-frills experience, but I've never had a bad massage here. I've had a few that were not amazing, but the great ones outweigh the mediocre. And with prices like this, I can come once a month! The massages happen in one big room with each massage bed, separated by hospital curtains. So you are near other people getting massaged, but you don't see them during the process and they don't see you. Times can be limited, depending on how many students are at this phase of their schooling. So please do give this a try but don't tell too many people or I won't be able to get my monthly massage in :)
