Pretty brutal, but effective. I stopped in to Taichi Wellness Spa to address some issues I'd been having with my neck and opted for the 10 minute acupressure session for neck pain. I'm not going to lie, I have a high pain tolerance but I had to stop the therapist mid-session for a break. They basically forced the majority of the knots out of my neck and around my shoulder, and it was so painful that I was sweating profusely. Though I am hesitant to go again due to the pain, I acknowledge that my neck felt a little better after the soreness died down. First let me say, that the massage portion of our experience was wonderful... so I feel bad leaving something negative, but I don't want anyone else to have the same issue we did today! Every year my mother-in-law purchases me and my sister-in-law a gift certificate to Taichi for a massage... so this year our gift certificates were for $75 each. When we arrive, we decided to do the 90 minute option for $99 each. I checked AND circled the option, which was for 60 min foot, 30 min back. My sister-in-law also chose the same. We get back to our room, and get whisked away into bliss for 90 minutes.... then... We go to pay, and the manager/owner tells us we each owe $54 for the service (after the gift certificate difference). We question how she got that total, since we were expecting to pay $24 each after the gift certificate. She says we chose the $129 option, which is for 60 min back, 30 min foot... and some eye patch that we clearly didn't get done. Except for the eye patch, this IS what the masseuse did for us, but it wasn't what we asked for... clearly based on the paper we filled out. When we asked what we should have done, she told us it was our job to tell them that they were going too long, and essentially it was our fault!!! Unbelievable... she storms off after we tell her she's wrong, and that wasn't what we asked for. When she comes back I tell her that it feels like a bait and switch to get more money from us, and this really makes her mad. "I've been doing this 12 years, and I do what's right for the customer!!! I don't need more money from you". CLEARLY NOT... this is clearly her error, but she insists it's our issue. Then tells us that she told the masseuse the other service because it's what we best for us... and she's doing right for the customer. So infuriating and dishonest... We gave up... paid, tipped the great masseuse, and made it clear we would NOT be back again. Which is sad, because this has been a 6 year tradition for me and my sister-in-law. My chair massage was okay. They use a towel to not mess up your clothing but it does take away from the massage and muscles getting worked. I really miss true massages with hands and working muscles vs getting elbowed to death for pressure. I was peeved on being asked about the top twice and had to be assertive to worry about charging the bill and I would be concerned with tip. I felt this was very rude and unprofessional. Prices are higher than other places and different than what I saw on Yelp but I stayed because I was already there. My arms hand was missed on my massage even though I circled it on the consult form. I feel so bad having to write this because they were so nice but I really want to warn people. I think the main issue was a language barrier. Not one person spoke English well enough to understand, had we had someone we could speak to our experience could have been different. I bought a scrub for my best friend and I for her birthday. I love when they scrub my legs with sugar and salt at the nail salon so I figured full body would be amazing. We arrived and the woman told us they were having a special where it was the same price as a body scrub but we also got to do the sauna and a "Chinese scrub". She said this was better, more relaxing and would make our skin softer. It was so so SO bad. We were placed in a sauna together for 60 minutes. It got up to 120 degrees. Then they pulled us out separately to do the scrub. There were no sugars or salts, they basically just bathed us. The had a bar of white dove bar soap and a glove that I guess exfoliates you. Yes, it was relaxing, but the whole thing only lasted 10 minutes and it was just awkward and not comfortable or the experience I was looking for. Basically it was $99 each to sit in a sauna and get scrubbed with a bar of soap for 10 minutes. I'd rather just do it myself in the comfort of my own home. Perhaps if we would have stuck with the original plan of a body scrub it would have been different but I'm not sure. They cannot accommodate two people at once so this is more of a solo activity. read more

AMAZING The massage was extremely thorough. This was my second visit. The first was a foot massage that was over the top. When I say through I mean they really take care of you. I suffer from planter fasciitis. On my feet for 12 hours in an emergency room. I wanted to have my feet worked on so as though I could enjoy my upcoming vacation where I would do a lot of walking. And it's actually kinda funny because she as a non-Chinese person wanted to introduce Chinese massages to me a Chinese person who had never tried them. We got our massage in the same room side by side. We did both the foot and body massage. My friend had a masseuse and I had a masseur. I'd say my overall experience wasn't bad. I just wish I got a female massager instead. My masseur was very professional and everything but it was still a bit awkward for me. He was also somewhat heavy handed, ouch! I've been dealing with chronic tension and pain in my back for years now, and pretty much any chance I can to get a massage, I'll take it. I expected just to stop in, check it out, pick up a brochure, but they were able to fit me in then and there, thankfully. The staff was super friendly, very knowledgeable and my back hasn't felt this good and loose in a long time. I was a little apprehensive about doing the cupping, (since I'd done it before elsewhere, and didn't get much out of it). This time though, it seemed to do the trick. Now a few days later, I still feel better and I have even slept better since. The massage was deep and intense, painful even, but only in the best way. Will definitely be coming back. So when I go to tip the masseuse I was told I got the special. I told the guy who scheduled the appointment that's not what I wanted. CHANGE OF MANAGEMENT - DONT GO This was my go to place for massage and treatment. I will not go back anymore. The new manager or owner is hot headed and very rude. She has also changed the ways services are performed and the experience has been completely downhill. I was sad because the old owner manager new my pain issues and was always quick to set up what I needed and gave good deals and specials. The current specials are not the same. The regular services also no longer allow men to be on their back during any part of the massage. Since I have shoulder pain I need parts of my pec near my shoulder massaged. I've been getting this treatment for years and it stopped with the new owner. The new owner is also very transparent about how money focused she is and treatment does not seem to be a priority. I have back problems and usually get the cupping every month or two to help with the muscle tightness and pain. Today I went in and I was burned badly during the treatment. I cannot wear a bra and have extreme pain with just a shirt. I went back less than 20 minutes later and spoke with the manager. She seemed unsurprised and unconcerned. She offered me oil for the burn, but did not apologize and would not issue a refund. I will not be returning, and I encourage you to find somewhere else to get your treatment done. After so many years of pain I finally got relief. It was difficult at first due to years of overworking my muscles and my very tight ligaments, but after the 1.5 hour session I could walk again without that horrible yank I always felt at my hips. I'm not going to lie I was in tears but it was so worth it. My therapist did not slack off as most do after a few minutes and her strong 20 year experienced hands had me blessing her throughout the session. I visited this location twice. My first experience getting a Brazilian wax here was comfortable and almost fun. Every thing went smoothly and I was happy with the final outcome. I decided to revisit for my second wax. The appointment started right on time however this time I felt like I was a bother to the employee that I had even shown up. The wax was way more painful than the first time. I also noticed that the wax was being double dipped. On top of this there was so much hair and wax left behind. The day before my massage, I had gone on a run and was completely sore. I entered the spa and asked what their services were. I was mostly interested in reflexology (foot massage) because I suffer from painful feet due to arthritis. The lady suggested I do the combo service; foot massage and back massage for a bundle price. I agreed and went off to see Charlie, my personal masseur. He understood that I have specific requirements because of some injuries and he continued to be professional and helped me out with my foot pain. I am very interested in the other services they offer, such as facial massage and acupuncture.
