One of the worst HVAC service experiences I have ever had. I would not recommend Avery's…read more Our restaurant had one A/C unit that was not working, and our property management referred us to Avery's. I called and scheduled service on Thursday. Three technicians did not arrive until around 9:00 PM. At the time, I did not realize I would be charged $150 per hour for each person. Later, the owner also came to the property, and his time was added to the labor charges as well. We have five A/C units. They spent more than two hours trying to determine which thermostat/controller was connected to which rooftop unit. They were unable to figure it out until the owner arrived. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the owner complained to me about how long it had taken. When he tried to explain the system and I did not understand, he sighed and spoke to me in a condescending manner, telling me that I did not understand air conditioning. During the rooftop work, one of their technicians turned off the switch/disconnect to another A/C unit that had been working normally -- the unit serving our office and restroom. Approximately 30 minutes after they went onto the roof, that A/C stopped working. I immediately brought this to their attention, and they told me not to worry. Around 11:30 PM, they finally repaired the A/C unit that was the reason for the original service call. By midnight, however, they said it was too late and they needed to leave without restoring the office/restroom A/C. Instead, they opened the indoor unit and told me the belt was loose, the filter was extremely dirty, and there was water inside. They then told me to call another HVAC company to repair it because they could not return that week. The owner even told me that I would probably call other companies and eventually come back to him asking for help. As a result, our office and restroom were without A/C on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Saturday, I paid another HVAC company to replace the belt and inspect the indoor equipment. They found no issue that explained why the system would not operate. I then went to the rooftop and discovered that the rooftop switch had been left in the OFF position after Avery's work. When I contacted Avery's about this, they denied responsibility. I asked them to return and correct the problem. They initially refused, but after further discussion, they agreed to come Monday morning. On Monday, three people came back again. They went onto the roof and told me that the capacitors appeared to be leaking oil and suggested that this might be why the unit was not operating. I asked them to replace the capacitors, but they refused and told me to have another company do it. Then, somehow, they were able to get the A/C operating again before they left -- without replacing the capacitors they had just identified as the possible problem. What made the situation even more frustrating was the billing. The owner had told me by phone that he would not charge me for the return visit, but I was later charged for it anyway. The customer service was just as troubling as the technical experience. During our conversations, the owner called me a "dangerous customer." He also told me that because my A/C systems had supposedly not been maintained for 10 years, they would all eventually fail, that repairing everything could potentially cost around $300,000, and that I should consider selling my business quickly. I called an HVAC company because I needed an air conditioner repaired. I did not call to be talked down to, have a working A/C unit left switched off, be told to hire another company to finish the work, be charged after being told I would not be charged, or receive unsolicited advice to sell my business. I own and operate a restaurant, so reliable A/C service and professional communication are extremely important. Based on my experience with Avery's, I will never use this company again and cannot recommend them to other business owners.

Last spring on April 25, our home warrant company sent Entire Air Solutions to do a spring tune-up…read moreon our 2 HVAC units. The primary goal of a tune-up is to optimize the system's performance, extend its lifespan, and prevent potential issues before they become costly problems. Jason from Entire Air inspected our systems, said everything was fine and went on his way. He did not remove the valve service caps to hook up hoses to measure system pressures directly to determine the health of the systems but apparently did it in a different way. On every spring tune-up we have had before, technicians measure the level of refrigerant in the system by attaching gauges to the unit which involves connecting hoses to the unit by removing the valve caps and connecting the gauges to the system. Over the next few weeks after Jason inspected our systems on April 25, the downstairs unit quit cooling well, and by June 21, it started blowing air at 75 degrees. On June 21, Jason with Entire Air returned to determine why our downstairs unit was not cooling. He said that one of the service valve caps, which he did not inspect on April 25, was deteriorated ("had dry rot") and was the cause of loss of refrigerant. He added 5 pounds of R22 at a cost of $600 and put on a new service valve cap. On his return visit on June 21, Jason did not do a leak test to determine the original source of the leak, which clearly turned out not to be the valve cap as the system continued to leak R22 over the next several weeks. Nor did Jason add leak freeze during this follow up visit as a preventative measure in case there might have been a leak in the line somewhere that had caused the initial 5 pound loss of coolant. Three weeks later on July 17, Tim from Speedy Electric & AC came out to inspect the system and found that an additional 2 pounds of R22 had leaked from the system since June 21 when Jason had added 5 pounds of R22. Tim found that both Schrader valves were not tightly secured and he had to tighten both of them down to prevent further leaking, as Schrader valves are known to be a source of refrigerant leaks in air conditioning systems. Tim added 2 pounds of R22 at an additional cost of $320 to us and also added Rectorseal Leak Sealer in case there were any line or coil leaks present. Had a deteriorated service valve cap been the source and cause of the 5 pound loss of coolant, then by simply replacing the valve cap, which is all Jason did on June 21, the system would not have leaked any more. I spoke with John, who said he was the owner of Entire Air to complain why our unit had lost so much refrigerant in only 7 weeks. He said that his technicians do not use gauges to measure pressure/coolant levels because doing so could release small amounts of coolant from removing the valve caps and hooking up gauges. Instead, he said his technicians measure temperatures to calculate pressure levels by referring to a pressure/temperature chart. Even if this an acceptable way of estimating pressure and coolant levels, the service caps still should have been removed and inspected to determine the condition of the rubber gaskets inside the caps to see if they needed to be replaced. Jason did not do this. on his April 25 inspection. The initial spring inspection by Entire Air on April 25 was inadequate. The follow up on June 21 was inadequate since a leak test was not done, nor were the Schrader valves inspected during that visit to make sure they were tight and not leaking, nor was leak freeze added as a preventative measure. On July 21, Speedy Electric & AC properly diagnosed and corrected the system issues and we have had no further leaks since then. As a result of poor service from Entire Air, my wife and I incurred charges of $920 and $70 for a second service call which might have been unnecessary had a proper tune up had been performed on April 25. We cannot recommend Entire Air and will never use them again.
