We have been to Anuelo's since Covid when they raised their prices and eliminated Happy Hour. We got an email that they now have a $6.99 enchiladas platter on Tuesday and they've brought back Happy Hour. We each got an enchilada platter, Dan got a Happy Hour beer and I got a Happy Hour margarita. I couldn't eat but half of mine so I have lunch tomorrow. I see no reason to cook on Tuesday. Very nice building, waitress seemed uninterested in being there. Forgot our drinks and didn't even know what came with the dishes. Only checked on us once (needing a refill on my tea). This visit was excellent! I had planned on visiting here the last time I visited 3 years ago but time got the best of me. But, I'm glad I was able to patronize this restaurant this time around. Had no idea what to order but pretty much I order enchiladas almost every Mexican restaurant I go to. So, that's what I got. Ranchero enchiladas with rice and beans. They're delicious! They come with lots of melted cheese and prepared nicely. Taste was good, flavors were spot on! We stopped here for a bite while at the Maltese National Specialty dog show where we were the official photographers. We were greeted prompt on arriving and seated right away. Our server came to the table quickly and was attentive. The place has a nice fee to it with enough Mexican ambiance to let you know where you're eating. We tried food off the seasonal menu and like both options. While we waited for the food to arrive we had chips and salsa on the table. The salsa variety was good and the three options were different and tasty. Good value for the price. Would eat there again if we were staying at the Renaissance hotel. read more

Margarita was prepared correctly and was tasty! And dinner was good, not what I would call great, but good enough. I ordered the Chili Relleños and my husband ordered the enchiladas. The food was hot & arrived within 15 minutes of ordering. There are LOTS of Mexican restaurants in the area, so we may be back, but I don't feel like I must come back for the food. Again, it was good enough but nothing I would have to have again. The service was a bit slow, but in all fairness they have a sign about patience because they are understaffed. No complaints here. Hubby & I really enjoy their food/drinks. This visit may have been outstanding due to our waiter, Michael. He was so on point with a subtle hint of humor. We made H(apply) H(our). so I ordered HH margaritas & hubby ordered HH queso. We usually sit in the bar but it was packed. HH? otherwise there were plenty of tables. Started out with their 3 sauce sampler. they're all tasty but we prefer the regular red over the spicy red and verde. And they'll just keep it coming. Thank god; hubby's usually eaten all the chips by the time I wash my hands. We ordered the fajitas trio. It was excellent. I made myself 2 shrimp tacos and was done! We agreed their bbq shrimp in the trio were awesome. Hubby ate the rice, I had a few bites of the charro beans. Quite good. I've *never* seen hubby eat so much! THEN, he ordered their bread pudding. Not my fav, but his. This one was tasty and very different IMO. It was sorta like it was drenched in a tres leche sauce, which I love. We were greeted with an amazing individual whom wanted to help us be seated right away, but we waited 40 minutes only because we had a 8 in our party. When we were seated our servers Ko & Jazmin were awesome! They were attentive & friendly from the moment we were seated. Our food was very delicious maybe a bit over seasoned on the beef taco but the shrimp, chicken enchiladas, papas & chili relleno were worth every bite. And the dessert wow! I am not sure why the other reviews did not like the Flan but it was melt in your mouth amazing! Along with the cheesecake. We came to celebrate a graduation and the atmosphere was wonderful and lively. If we return to Tulsa we will definitely come again. Good impressions make great memories. read more

Came in here the other day expecting just your average texmex place, as it was a bit later, they were still open, and I was fine with going somewhere a bit cookie cutter. I was surprised that Abuelo's wasn't that. Yes, they are a chain (which at the time I thought they were more just an OK and maybe surrounding states thing) but it was definitely less of a "basic" experience than I was prepared to get. I think especially because I'd been to an Abuelo's in Edmond, which was pretty different from this one (more like the small, quick, very casual type) I was imagining it'd be like that. Even the atmosphere was completely different with it being a lot bigger, more open, and overall just a whole different aesthetic. Anyway, all staff were wearing masks, and people were being seated socially distanced. Speaking of the workers, our waitress was so nice! And she checked in on us just the right amount - not too often but also attentive enough. They provide a QR code on the end of the table which links to their website. I didn't notice this until after we'd ordered, so I wish they had mentioned that to us. The menu isn't huge, but has a decent amount of options. I got the durango burrito, because I was particularly in the mood for a burrito and it was really the only one I saw on the menu. Plus, it mentioned it was made with spicy beef, and spicy always grabs my attention. They were out of the beef at that time, but I actually was a little happy about that because they let us choose a different meat and I'm much more of a chicken person anyway! I was really impressed with the burrito. Super juicy and flavorful! The queso on top was also really tasty. And on the note of dips, I really enjoyed the salsa too! Their standard red was pretty good, the spicier one that I asked for had a great heat to it, and the green one (I think it's called tropical something salsa) was really unique with a melon/ fruit-like flavor! Overall Abuelo's turned out to not be as plain and undistinguishable (not that those places are bad - I mean, I was obviously gonna go there with that in mind in the first place) as I was ready for. EVERYTHING WAS OUTSTANDING! The service was exceptional, fast, polite and very professional! I would tell you who to come see (Mariah) when you visit, but she is leaving soon to pursue her career as a mental health professional. I wish her the best and know if she works as hard as Mariah did for me tonight, she will help tons of people over the course of her career. Started out with Queso Diablo (hope I am spelling that right). Not overly spiced/hot as the name might suggest. Very nice balance of flavor and heat. Will get it again! Had the Juarez enchilada platter and each of the sauces were incredible. Plenty of wonderful food and great cold beer made this a super dinner tonight. I will be back the next time I am in town! So, I chose Abuelo's today for lunch (7-30-24), and was greeted and seated quickly as the crowd was very sparse. The waiter was polite and attentive and the food was pretty good. The table where I was seated was to the right of the entrance along the wall and as I waited to be served I noticed a significant amount of trash along the wall behind the long black bench on the floor obviously overlooked by cleaning staff for a long period. Making me connect the dots and realize that there are other things that get overlooked in this establishment. The restaurant seemed fairly neat and the atmosphere was very relaxing. As I left and walked by the host stand I expected a parting acknowledgment but the young lady was deeply involved in looking at her phone... which unfortunately is the method of operation today. She should go clean up the trash on the floor the bench! I gave the waiter a very generous tip and probably will go to Uncle Julio's next time. read more

I loved Abuelo's!! First of all the statues and the decor were over the top and so cool. I wasn't sure what to expect for the food but I was very impressed once I got my food. I had the vegetable fajitas which had broccoli, squash, onions and peppers and it came with rice and beans. It was all delicious and fresh. Being Mother's Day, I called when they opened in order to get on the waitlist immediately since they do not do reservations on the weekend. I received a text message from Abuelos saying the wait time would be 15-30 min so I waited 15 min and checked the wait time again. Once it showed15 min we left for the restaurant. When we arrived we were told that it would be another 30 minute maybe longer. So my review is based on them not honoring their waitlist system. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch today. We haven't been here in a while since it is rather out of the way for us but we were in the area and had always enjoyed our prior visits. Today, the food wasn't bad and the portions were good. On the other hand the service was extremely lackluster! We were not greeted when we entered. In fact the two ladies up front acted like we were inconveniencing them. Our server didn't welcome us either, barely came by the table, despite there being only 5 other tables occupied and two other servers working! Our server would walk by and ask as she was walking by if we were "good" and would keep walking, not waiting for our response. We even observed one of the other tables stand up and get their own water refill! Halfway through our meal the server put the bill on the table and as she turned to walk away said to let her know if we wanted desserts or to go boxes, but again was several feet away when she finished her flyby checkin. Terrible Mexican food. Not even the queso was good and usually that's something you cannot mess up. Reg queso was so watery and the spicer queso had chunks of meat in it and it tasted like can food. Especially the meat Chile sauce the use on enchiladas. Not authentic at all. The Chile rellenos were room temp inside. The papas con queso are mashed potatoes!! If you like Americanized Mexican food that taste like canned food than this is your place. Also restrooms were very outdated and not clean. The only good thing I have to say is the service was great. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. Too bad he works at such a terrible restaurant. read more

Food is below average for what you pay. Drinks have little alcohol and are flat with no bite. Wait staff was grumpy and made mistakes.

All I can say is stay away. The food was outrageously over-priced. We were made to wait 20 minutes, even though over half the tables were empty. It took forever to get waited on. I ordered the fajita salad with grilled shrimp. After an interminable wait, it arrived -- with no shrimp. The salad had no fajita-grilled vegetables and was basically a simple tossed salad. The one compliment I have is the wait staff were very friendly. And I'd like to add the chips were very fresh and crisp, and the three salsa combo was good. The guacamole was also good. read more

We've always had good service and good food here. No wonder it's a family favorite! The espinaca casserole here tastes better than at OKC locations! It's less bitter. I almost always get enchiladas here because they come in so many combinations. I have never been disappointed by them. Today our waitress was very good, and she made sure that we had the salsa refills we wanted. Today I ordered the huevos rancheros off the lunch menu. The chain's take is eggs over top of cheese enchiladas with extra chili con carne enchilada sauce. Consistent in Food Quality, Service, and Atmosphere There are only a couple of large corporate chain Mexican restaurants that I like. Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant is one of them. And even though I don't dine here very often I would consider it the best. They start the meal with their chips and a nice variety four of salsas that range from sweet tomatillo (with a hint of pineapple I think), to a nice, not too hot habanero. In between, on the heat range are a mild, but flavorful tomato salsa and a chipotle salsa. All good! We had the Enchilada Lunch and the Chile Relleño and Enchilada lunch. With both of the meals we had, we picked the refried beans and Papas con Chile. The Papas con Chile is an Abuelo's original item. This is the first time I have had it. It is kind of a mashed potato, spicy, cheesy casserole. It is rich and creamy. The red sauce my wife picked for her chicken enchilada was very good. The Chile Relleño I had was filed with seasoned shredded beef covered in queso and the tasty nicely spiced, chicken enchilada was covered in a green chili queso sauce. Good meals! However, the chicken stuffed medallions were ok and the enchiladas that came with it were awful. Especially the avocado one. Tortilla wrapped full of nasty guacamole. The Juarez meal my wife had she said was pretty good. Rice not so much and tamale was no good. Her chicken enchilada she like very well and was only item she ate on her plate fully till gone. Chips and salsa were just ok. Appetizer queso cheese is worse on the planet. Honestly rather had gone to Taco Bell and would enjoyed it more. She said even the margarita she got tasted like extra cheap tequila (she's pretty experienced lol). We both agreed on not coming back again. Abuelo's is my favorite Mexican restaurant, hands down. Our service is always impeccable. We typically dine in during slower hours, like between 2 and 4 pm. During that time, we feel like VIPs. Even during busy hours like Friday and Saturday nights, the service is still great considering how busy this place gets. The food is always amazing. I love the three dip sampler that is brought out with chips. If you prefer one dip over the others, you can request a bowl of it. My husband and I like different dips, so we always request them: I prefer the milder sauce, and my husband prefers the tomatillo sauce. I have yet to venture from the chicken enchiladas with queso yet. It is the only meal I have eaten at Abuelo's. It is a more generic meal, but when I say it is the best chicken enchilada I have ever tasted, I mean it. We love this place! read more

A waitress fell and hit her head on the rock wall, her eyes rolled in the back of her head and she fell face first on the hard tiled floor. The manager simply brought her a glass of . told the manager that he needed to call the paramedics and his response was.. it is taken care of. I waited a few moments and when the ambulance had not arrived, because no one had called them, I stepped outside to call the paramedics myself. When the manager saw that I had called the ambulance, he flung the doors open and began screaming at me, wailing his arms and telling me that I had no right to call , telling me that she didn't want anyone to be called and that I needed to get out now! What a pathetic human being not to get someone the medical attention that they need. I have sent an email to the general manager and have yet to get a reply. This person has a head injury and to not get her medical attention is despicable behavior! This woman fell extremely hard and has a head injury and he refused to get her the assistance that she needed. A head injury is a very, very serious condition and always requires Medical attention! I will of course follow up with my viewers to let you know if this manager indeed has been dismissed because of his arrogant, inept, irresponsible, pathetic display of lack of concern for another human being. read more

Terrible experience .... to start, the Hostess was aloof and inattentive and although the restaurant was nice on the inside and our actual waiter "Shawn" was really nice and very helpful- outside of him the overall service, experience and the unprofessional attitude the server that expedited the food was extremely rude and snarky. After the encounter with her, the manager proceeded to come over and was also very short and quasi cold as if the issue was us as guest. (Not the case) The food was mediocre and not quality and it took approximately 30 minutes to even get the food to our table. The manager did try and accommodate my experience with a "complimentary entree card" you win some and you lose some and this definitely was a loss. just very disappointed at how the attitude of the server was it makes you appreciate when people who serve you are actually nice, because that's what you do when you serve being kind is a significant part in serving. Abuelo's is one of those places we tend to go to when we're out on a date night, or at least out without The Kid. I can't say why, but it Abuelo's is more of a retreat place for us, as opposed to the other dozen or so places that we typically hit for family meals. We've been to the one in Tulsa numerous times, and the one in Bricktown a couple of times, and both are stellar. Abuelo's achieves the balance of a busy, packed restaurant, but still one quiet enough to carry on a conversation. The food is always good, plated perfectly and is consistent. I've had several of the menu options, as Abuelo's seems to be one of the few places that I don't get the same thing every time. From more basic Tex-Mex fare, such as enchiladas and fajitas, to some of the more unique Pork Tenderloin Abrigata or Seared Tuna, I have yet to come away anything less than satisfied, which can be a tall order nowadays. Service is always on point, and we always receive the proper amount of attention from our server. If you haven't been to Abuelo's yet, do yourself a favor and give it a go. It's not a mom and pop joint at all, but it is a nice, moderately upscale place to have a really good meal. read more
