I had a dying 100 year old 90 foot chestnut oak tree in my backyard which needed to be taken down. I had no idea who to go with so I asked around and got a ton of quotes. Absolute Tree was one of the quickest to respond and also with the fairest quote. They also came highly recommended from my neighbor, so I decided to go with them. The whole process was smooth. Ashley, the owner, was quick to respond and clear in his communication. Abraham, the team leader/climber ultimately responsible for the job was friendly, genuine, 100% professional, and went beyond the call of duty. The team was hyper aware of their surroundings (my backyard) - taking care to not damage anything. While not required, I chose to be home and observe the work. From start to finish the job was completed in a very professional and organized manner. Clearly not their first rodeo. If I ever needed more tree work done I'd go back to them in a heart beat. I needed the work done fairly quickly because it was an emergency, and they were super accommodating. I booked their services in December to trim one of the same trees they previously trimmed for me a few years ago. They were running a gutter cleaning special as well, so I requested a price for trimming the tree and cleaning the gutters. I proposal I received is attached. I just contacted the company to schedule the gutter cleaning and was told I misunderstood the proposal and the gutter cleaning would be $300 additional... for a townhouse that has two runs of gutters and two downspouts. Had wood delivered in Dec of 2020, the delivery contained the expected amount of wood and was delivered on time. However, the amount of debris left in my yard looked like someone had mixed mulch, splintered wood and small rocks all over the ground. I immediately contacted Ashley Davis, provided pictures and she assured me they would come clean the area and "make it right". I completely understand there will always be some debris and some cleanup from a delivery of firewood. This was EXCESSIVE and was easily 3 times worse than every other firewood delivery (from other companies) I have had over the last 2 years. It is now 14 April, I have heard nothing further from the company. My wife and I spent about 3 hours cleaning the spot on the ground. I would highly recommend finding another firewood delivery service. Had they followed through on cleaning the mess, I would not have written this negative review. read more

[My previous review is no longer showing, so I'm adding it in back in so homeowners can be warned about this lackluster company.] I attempted to utilize this company for tree pruning services. The initial scheduling with the company's receptionist was pleasant, and a date was set for work to be completed. On the day of the job, the Absolute Tree team never showed! This was very frustrating since a specific date and time was previously confirmed. When I called to follow up, I was informed by the company's president, Mr. Ashley Davis, that the job had been "accidentally" scheduled for the next day instead. He began placing the blame on their scheduling software, or on an employee's use of said software. He offered to send a crew out the next day, or later in the morning. It's understood that people make mistakes, but when I asked for a 5% concession discount on the job for the inconvenience, Mr. Davis abruptly stated, "No, I don't do that for services. I don't know what world you live in, buddy!" These are the kinds of fiery remarks that a professional tradesman would never use with a customer. At the end of our conversation, when I indicated that I would look elsewhere for services, he hung up on me. In short, my communications with Mr. Davis were very unpleasant, and his demeanor was very discourteous. It's my recommendation that this company enroll its president (and maybe the entire staff) in customer etiquette training, and that you, the homeowner, look elsewhere for professional tree removal services. *Update* Absolute Tree has a 15% off all tree care coupon that comes in the ValPak! If you recall above, I asked for a 5% concession for the inconvenience, and you can read the owner's inappropriate response about not offering discounts AT ALL (even when the company "drops the ball"), yet, here he is running a 15% off discount coupon. I feel like I go through tree companies like paper towels. No more I hope as my first experience with Absolute Tree has put them on my keeper list. I had them come out to quote the following: 1. Remove a large tulip poplar a few feet from my house/overhanging above my house AND on a steep slope and 2. Elevate the trees in my front yard so that I can grow grass instead of mud. They came out at the scheduled time with quite a large team of people, trucks and equipment. While taking down the large tree (without dropping anything on my house AND without tearing up the steep slope it was located on) the rest of the team worked on elevating the other trees. I had requested that any low branches be removed to allow for more sun on the lawn - during my consultation, three trees were chosen to accomplish this. While they were up there in their cherry pickers however, I noticed that they went over and above what was promised and took down a few droopy, leaf heavy branches on a few other trees as well (and any deadwood within reach) - this made a HUGE difference in the amount of sun that was getting down to the lawn. *happy* When they were all done, everything was shredded/hauled away and my entire front lawn was blown free of any leaves and debris. A few weeks later now the lawn is growing in beautifully :) Will have them back soon to elevate/deadwood the back. In June 2016, I purchased a home in Woodbridge, VA and needed to get an estimate of trimming some branches of a tree near my deck. In 2016, I called Absolute Tree Inc. (owner: Ashley Davis) for a free estimate. I was told the work would cost $400, but they never showed up to do the actual work. I called them to inquire but got the run around, so my father, son and I decided to do it ourselves so we bought the tools, cut the tree branches and stored the clippings by my shed. I paid my lawn service company to remove them in 2016. Shortly after, I received a $400 invoice from Absolute Tree Inc when they did nothing. I called/emailed several times to explain that the guy never did the work and that I am not paying the fake bill. I received harassing calls and eventually spoke with the owner, he was rude and insulting and ended the call saying don't pay the bill he'll delete it, but that never happened because I just received another bill about this non-service dated 1/5/2018. If I was asked if I would recommend this company, I would say Absolutely NOT based on my experience because they lie, do fake billing, harass customers, have poor customer service and have a rude and insulting owner and staff. Twice this company has trespassed onto adjoining property and cut down trees and limbs that they had no business cutting down. The first time they could pretend to be ignorant (which they were not as the property is staked) but the second time they clearly knew they were trespassing. They claimed there was an "English" problem. We are now in discussions with the neighbor who hired them to seek compensation. Hire them at your own risk! They don't care if they cut and trim someone else's trees. read more

I called Absolute Tree Service on March 29, 2016. I spoke with Jill, and I told her that I was looking to get a stump removed from my yard. I had a very specific deadline that had to be met -- the stump needed to be removed by April 6 because I was having a fence installed on April 7. Jill assured me that this would not be a problem and that I should send a picture of the stump to the owner, Ashley Davis, and he would get back to me with an estimate. Ashley was very prompt, and the estimate was a reasonable $175. I called Jill on March 30 and told her that I would like to schedule the service. I again reiterated that the service would need to be performed by April 6, and she said that would be "no problem". I called Jill at the office again on March 31 because I had not received a confirmation email that she had promised. Jill had no idea who I was. I refreshed Jill's memory and she told me that she forgot to write up the work order for my job but she would get right on it. On April 6th (deadline day), I received this email from the owner's email account at 8:20am: We are grinding your stump today. Ashley Davis President/Lead Arborist Absolute Tree, Inc. I arrived home from work that evening, around 7pm, and the stump had not been removed. I called Absolute's Virginia office and reached their voicemail. Very helpfully, their voicemail greeting gives an "emergency" number that can be called so I dialed it. I reached the owner, Ashley, and I told him my situation. He had no idea who I was. He also told me that he didn't send the email that came from his email account. I told Ashley that we were lucky because the fence installation would be pushed back until Friday due to a grim weather forecast. I was assured that the stump would be removed prior to the fence installation. On Thursday, I called Jill at the office and inquired if the work would occur that day. There was some doubt because there was some rain in the forecast. Jill assured me the work would be completed that day, and if it wasn't going to happen that she would call me. I never heard from Jill. I arrived home on Thursday night and the stump was still there. I called Ashley's cell phone and asked him what his plan was. Again, he had no idea who I was. After an explanation, he assured me that somebody would be over first thing in the morning. Well wouldn't you know it, they actually showed up on Friday morning just after 7am. They did grind the stump, but the fence crew had already arrived so I had contractors working side by side with each other, something that I was trying to avoid. I received an invoice via email from Absolute Tree Service for the full $175. No apology, no discount, just a bill. I replied to that email and I said that I agree that they should be paid for their service, but that I would not pay the full amount because of the aggravation that they had caused. Moments later, I received a phone call from Ashley. Comically, he still wasn't quite sure who I was. Once I explained my situation, he turned into a bully. "My customers do not dictate what they want to pay." "Just because you're dissatisfied doesn't mean you get a discount." "Stump removals aren't a high priority job." "We got it done before the fence went in, didn't we?" "The weather was bad and I had more important jobs to take care of." "I don't normally talk to customers because this is a multi-million dollar business and I have managers that deal with people like you." "You should have hired someone else when we didn't show up on Wednesday." I'm sure Ashley will respond to my review and tell you that there was a bad storm in the area just days before I needed to have my stump removed, therefore he had more important jobs to take care of. That is probably true, but customer service isn't a zero sum game. You don't have to make somebody else mad to make another customer happy. This also doesn't explain why I received an email on Wednesday morning telling me to expect service that day. I have hired dozens of contractors since purchasing our home last July. I have always paid everyone on time and in full. I will pay Ashley on time and in full as well, because he made it clear to me that he would rather have his full fee than have any of my future business. My experience is that Ashley and Jill are in way over their heads. They have too many clients, they don't care about you unless you've done business with them for a long time, and they don't care about your satisfaction. read more

I am glad I don't have any trees that are looking like they need to come down anytime soon. They are a top notch company. READ THIS BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO HIRE THIS COMPANY. We made an appointment for an estimate on Wednesday, 6/12/13 and the rep was to arrive between 7:30-8:00am. We called that morning to confirm and got no answer. At 8:10am we called again and the receptionist/phone person proceeded to blow our minds. The receptionist said that the reps were at our house THE DAY BEFORE and had provided an estimate! They were clearly lying to her because a) we were home at that time and no one was at the house and b) there is no access to the rear of our house - or visibility - at all - from the front of the house. Our townhome has no access and backs up to another row of townhomes. So in order to have provided an estimate the reps would have to have gone to our neighbors roof - or ours - to peer into our backyard. I've experienced a lot of lack of professionalism but this one takes the cake - blatant lies. Just absolute unadulterated lies. And we were late for work waiting for a rep who was never going to come in the first place, although the receptionist did say that she saw we were scheduled for 6/12 and not 6/11. read more

Ashley, the owner, came and gave us an estimate to have 4 trees removed in the back and three trees pruned in the front based on the suggestion of another tree service that had come by and given us an inpromtu estimate. One of the trees the other company had said was dying but that didn't need to come down he let us know was a hazard and we needed to take it down soon before it feel during a storm. He was about an hour late for the appointment time on the estimate but as soon as I called to see where he was he came right over. He was very friendly and professional. The previous estimate for 4 trees removed and 3 pruned (including grinding out stumps was $7000. He took out 5 trees and ground the stumps and pruned 2 trees for $5500. We had the option to pay via credit card for a service fee, I believe it was $25 or a small percentage, but we chose to pay via check to keep the price as low as possible. His crew showed up early and removed all 5 trees and finished pruning and cleaning up by the time I got home from work around 5:30pm. They did a good job of creating as little mess around the rest of the yard as possible. We would absolutely recommend them and use them again. read more

This is the weirdest company I have ever encountered. I emailed them one day asking for an estimate. They responded immediately, asking if the tree was in the front or back, saying nothing else. I emailed them and told them the back. After not hearing from them for several days I emailed them again and asked why I hadn't heard from them. They told me they had gone on my property to do the estimate a couple of days before. They seem astounded that I found it objectionable that they hadn't called me before going on to my property. Then they sent me an email saying they had spoke to me earlier in the week, which they had not. They are either incredibly confused or worse. I have now used Absolute Tree, Inc. for three different jobs at my house. In June of 2015, I had 14 trees in my back yard which had been killed by the Emerald Ash borer and required removal to prevent damage to my home and to my neighbor's property. I got estimates from four companies, and Absolute Tree came in at a very fair price. I scheduled the work and they did an amazing and professional job from start to finish. Some of these trees had multiple, large trunks and were very difficult to remove, but they got them all down with no damage and minimal damage to my yard (which, they fixed up straight away). They were courteous, professional, and a pleasure to work with. On November 20th, 2016, trees from the HOA green space adjacent to my property, fell on my house during a huge windstorm that swept through our area. I again called on Absolute Tree, Inc. to remove the dead trees from my property. They did a simply spectacular job leaving my house and yard cleaner than they found it at the start of the job and the price was very, very fair. Finally, Monday, 3 April 2017, I was digging a pad for a new shed foundation and discovered an unknown, buried tree stump that I could not work around due to its location. I called Mike at 10 AM and my stump was ground out by 2 PM... THE SAME DAY! From Ashley Davis, Michael, and Jill, as well as their entire crew, I simply can't say enough how professional, easy to work with, and just great Absolute Tree, Inc. is. I would never go with anyone else for tree service because these folks make me feel like family; like my job is their most important one, and they simply go above and beyond to do it right. They are licensed and insured (incredibly important to check in this area as many tree service folks are fly by night operations without proper training or insurance), their employees are experienced and well trained, their equipment is well maintained, and they take care of their people. To me, they are the epitome of a great company to work with. A mixed bag. Great initial communication - great presentation. Decent price quote. I arrived home after the scheduled service to realize only half of the contracted work was done. I finally heard back a day later telling me they would have a reschedule in a few days. But before then I received the bill and the office had no idea my job was not done. The came back and did all the trees to a certain extent...some of them well. Our biggest issue was getting the tree limbs off our roof. We stressed this was our #1 priority. Two trees still had branches hanging over our roof and chimney and hanging down over the sidewalk on the other side. Removing these would not have hurt the health of the tree or the shape. I paid the bill and sent some pictures along showing that some branches still need removed and I could not reach. This is when I stopped hearing from them. It would literally be 15 minutes for them to take a few branches off our roof as I initially requested for 4 or 5 star service. The worst part is they just ignored my request. Not even a reply asking for more money. Just disappointing customer service in the end. read more

If I could give something lower than one star, I would. After receiving an estimate and paying a 50% deposit, it took a couple of weeks and several emails from me to get a date scheduled to have 3 trees removed from my rental property. At last, I got a date of 11/17 to have the work done. On the day of the service, I received a phone call from the crew but I was unable to respond immediately. I never received any other communication but I did receive an invoice for the amount due so I assumed the work had been completed. Luckily, I checked with my tenant before I paid the invoice and found that the trees had not been removed....weird, since I received an invoice! I called on the morning of 11/21 to find out what was going on and was promised a follow-up call that afternoon....which I did not get. On 11/22, I sent a follow-up email to try to find out what was going on and the response was that the crew could not find the trees so that was why the work was not completed. Odd, since they were able to find the trees to give me the original estimate but, ok. I was told the work would be rescheduled as soon as possible. Well, it is two weeks later and I have heard nothing and have received no response to my emails requesting a new date for the service. Since I have received no response, i have filed a dispute with my credit card company for the 50% deposit that was paid. I would definitely not recommend that anybody do business with this company after the experience I have had. read more

We needed our established maple majorly trimmed and after receiving three estimates, Absolute's was the best in terms of how much they'd cut for the price. I had asked that the larger branches be left in the yard as we burn wood throughout the year. After returning home, I found the tree looking beautiful and a pile of cut wood on the patio! Couldn't be happier. The only downside to the whole process was the communication: the company wasn't super responsive over email, but I found calling helped move things along. This review is from a 2016 estimate request. Looking at the reviews from that time, it seems they were dropping balls and losing some business. I hope things have improved. They were one of three companies bidding on the job, and the least responsive. I had to chase them down to try to get someone here to provide an estimate. Then the estimate did not include everything requested. When emailed about this and what needed to be added, I received two more copies of the very same estimate--with no changes. Here's how it went: 8/29 10:53 am- Called to schedule time for an estimate and was told some would call me back. That didn't happen. 8/30 3:05 pm- Called again asking for someone to call me back to schedule a time for an estimate. 8/31 8:30 am-Called by the owner who said he would "call me right back" after speaking with one of his workmen about when they could come out. 8/31 4:10 pm-Called the business again almost 8 hours later, near the end of the day to tell them I never heard back from the owner. Office staff tried to reach him, then told me she would call me right back. That didn't happen. 9/1-Office staff called me this morning to tell me someone would be out "some time this afternoon after 2 p.m." since I said I would be home after that time, but could not give me anything more specific. Estimator showed up at 4 pm. Competitors were able to schedule their estimates promptly and at a specific time--and arrived on time. 9/2-Received an estimate addressed to "Dear Valued Customer" by email, but it did not include everything discussed. Emailed back and asked for the things missing from the estimate to be added. 9/5 - Received two separate emails addressed to "Dear Valued Customer" with estimates from two separate parties. Neither one had been updated with the information that was missing, which I had to request twice. 9/5 - Wrote them off as this was not a good precursor to actually hiring them. This time-consuming lack of organization and accuracy did not leave a good impression, nor did the defensive, "blame the customer" counter reply to another review, saying "This is not the kind of customer you want." Great way to respond. Everything I've relayed about this experience was exactly as it happened. read more
