At age 29, after about a year and a half of trying to have a baby, I was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. My FSH was elevated at 17 and I had had 2 failed cycles of IVF. After my second failed IVF I went to a reproductive specialist in Boston for a second opinion, who told me he had NOTHING to offer me! He said that I should consider using donor eggs or adoption, and that I had a less than 5% chance of ever conceiving a child of my own. Heartbroken and desperate I came to Abram to see if acupuncture could help. My husband and I were not ready to give up on the dream of having a child. The minute I met Abram he put my mind at ease, he was very confident from the start that he could help me (I was not feeling quite as positive as he was after so much disappointment- but I appreciated his confidence after essentially being turned away from the other Dr.). We started once weekly treatments and Abram prescribed custom Chinese herbal supplements for me. Over the next few months we started to see real changes in my body. He explained that part of my problem was that I was ovulating too early- on day 11 causing immature eggs (something no medical doctor had ever addressed- fertility meds were just making me produce a greater quantity of immature eggs- but doing nothing for the quality of them!). Over the next few months I ovulated on day 12, then 13, then 15!- it was so amazing to see the changes right there in front of me! One of the challenging things about IVF is the lack of control over the timing of when you will need to go in for retrieval and transfers- and it just so happened that during this crucial week that we had been working towards for so long, Abram was going to be out of the office after the birth of his own baby. He went far above and beyond anything I EVER would have asked of him and made time for me during his time off to schedule a treatment. It was such a testament to how much Abram cares about his patients. The cycle was a success and I am now 16 weeks pregnant! 6 months ago my husband and I were faced with the very real possibility of never having children, we are now expecting our first child and I know that it is because of Abram. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but he is one of the kindest people I have ever met. He never once made me feel like a lost cause, which is exactly what I felt like before I came to him. I found Abram when I was in severe, 10 out of 10 pain from pinched nerves in my low back. I was in far too much pain to go to an office, and a friend of a friend knew him and said he made house calls. I arranged for him to come for a first visit and ended up having to spend a night in the hospital. I was late getting home, but he waited for me and gave me a treatment that helped dramatically. He combines knowledge, intuition, curiosity, and attentive, respectful listening, and has made a huge difference in my quality of life. I have a genetic liver condition, epilepsy, chronic joint and muscle pain and severe fatigue. Abram's done a great job of working with my shifting priorities as my symptoms have waxed and waned, and stayed on top of a complicated situation, managing to balance short term flare ups with the long term goals of strengthening my system overall. All the herbs he prescribed have been extremely helpful, and he's found ways to work around my neurological hypersensitivity (I can't have needles in the upper part of my body without potentially triggering seizures) always finding alternate points, and herbs that won't overstimulate my brain, while they rebuild my energy. He has also been more than willing to accommodate my disabilities. I have severe environmental illness/ multiple chemical sensitivities and can't tolerate fragrances. Abram comes to my house every week and changes into clothing I provide in order to protect me from exposure. He continues to make house calls, although his office is only two blocks away, because I can't tolerate his building. As of the writing of this review I have been seeing Abram Ojure for four months for treating pain associated with a large disk herniation and sciatica. In the past I have seen a total of seven acupuncturists for this problem. Abram really stands out from the rest. I highly recommend him. Why? 1. First and foremost he knows what he is doing. After a visit with Abram my pain levels go down dramatically. The difference is night and day - agony vs feeling normal. 2. My western doctors (three total) told me that I needed expensive and invasive back surgery to treat my condition. After a few months of acupuncture my pain levels have subsided enough for surgery to no longer be necessary. Every week I feel better and better now. 3. In seeing so many different acupuncturists I have learned what is perhaps obvious: sometimes acupuncture can feel like somebody is sticking a bunch of needles in you. However, I have also learned that any discomfort associated with the treatment entirely depends on the acupuncturist. To be frank, I am amazed at Abram technique. I simply do not understand how it is possible that inserting needles into my body can be so pain free. No pinch, no sting, just a little pressure. I've actually found Abram's treatments to be relaxing, even falling asleep during them. Who would have thought getting needles inserted in you would be relaxing! 4. Abram puts a lot of effort into making me comfortable. He has gone above and beyond what I have come to expect from most health care professionals. For example, when I started my acupuncture treatments many months ago, I was in so much pain I could not stay in the same position for more than 5 minutes. Abram recognized this and adjusted his treatment strategy accordingly. Instead of leaving the room after inserting the needles, which is what most acupuncturists would do, Abram stayed in the examination room with me until my pain levels subsided to tolerable levels. This behavior really stood out and made me feel really comfortable with him. He really cares about his patients and their comfort. I have had debilitating migraines since I was a little girl, I went to specialists and tried different medications and lifestyle changes in an attempt to prevent/deal with them over the years. I had accepted that they would always be something I would have to live with. In addition to the obvious pain, I would see an annoying sparkly aura and have to stay home from work, refrain from driving and loose entire days! In february I fell while skiing and injured my neck and shoulder. I saw countless doctors and endured weeks of physical therapy, but still suffered from chronic pain. Most days my pain level remained at an 8 or higher. I struggled to complete daily tasks and suffered from severe headaches every day. Most doctors only wanted to solve the problem with drugs. I was referred to Abe by a physiatrist that had worked with him in the past. This physiatrist had told me that my only options left were spinal injections or acupuncture. I obviously choose the acupuncture! Abe spoke with me on the phone prior to our session and asked a number of questions about how I was feeling. When I arrived for my session he had me complete an incredibly thorough questionnaire. He knew I was afraid of needles and eased me into the process. Prior to my first appointment I could not turn my head to the left and had serious restrictions in my general neck movement. Within the first five minutes (with just 4 needles) I was able to turn my head all the way to the left and felt more open than I had since before my fall. After three visits the pain went away completely and only returned intermittently. After several sessions with Abe I no longer have headaches, chronic pain or restrictions. Abram is by far the most conscientious doctor or health worker I've ever known. He's incredibly sincere, diligent, listens carefully, and makes time to get to know my health. He's watchful of my response to treatment, and responsive - so that we can keep making progress. My nerve pain from a bad injury has lessened, I'm taking herbs to help with pain and sensitivity to dampness, and Allison consulted on a diet that would help with digestive issues and energy levels too. Its... unheard of how great this experience has been. I used to feel that acupuncture was effective but it made me so agitated and it was painful - but I trust this practice, they know me, and the treatments make me feel better! If I have a flare-up and get in touch Abram responds right away. They even work with my tricky insurance situation.
