We ordered the broad beans with jamon, jamon iberica (awesome presentation), a salad of tomatoes with lettuce hearts and dry cured anchovies (ok), and "grilled cheese" which was grilled wedges of Brie (yummy). I was happy with the beans and jamon. I liked the atmosphere.

Upon arrival, I told the waiter I waiting for my husband and children and wasn't even asking to be seated without them, yet he acted as though I was inconveniencing him, by asking when they would arrive and then sarcastically pointing out that it had been "more than a minute" a few minutes later. (This was walk in, not a reservation we were late for). Once we were seated, he took his sweet time to come our table, and then, when he saw my 6-year-old had a small sandwich from elsewhere, let out an exaggerated sigh, and told us we couldn't stay. We explained that he's a young child and there was nothing on the menu he would eat, but the waiter was dismissive and inflexible, so we left (politely, not wanting a confrontation). I can't know what was in his mind, but as a South Asian family, the hostility and difference in treatment made the experience feel racist. We were polite throughout and were made to feel completely unwelcome.

This is technically a residence for the University of Granada in what used to be an old convent,…read morebut I'm reviewing the restaurant here. Walking past the entrance on the street, you'd have no idea this beautiful complex of gardens and water and unreal view of the Alhambra existed! If you're not staying in Albaicin and coming from far away, it's worth it to make a reservation. I came with here with a Spaniard around 10pm, and when he rang the bell, the first response was "You don't have a reservation." My friend asked again, and the second response was "Sorry the kitchen is closing soon." My friend asked a third time if there was any possible way for 2 people to eat there, and he let us in in the end. Ha, in Spain sometimes you gotta politely insist. The inside is mysterious and lovely and just covered with fruit trees, cypress trees, and the balcony has stunning views of the Alhambra. It looks like this is also a place where they do shows and presentations. Because the restaurant is mostly for the students and visiting professors who stay here, it's kind of low key and not your typical restaurant experience, BUT, this also means it's way cheaper and you still get delicious food. There was not an actual menu, but rather the waitress verbally told us all of the fresh items available that night - there were at least 3 appetizers and 3 main dishes to choose from. For 26 Euros total, the two of us shared: -4 glasses of wine -2 appetizers (large soup and a giant "empanada" with tuna and tomatoes) -2 main courses (oxtail stew - rabo de toro, & cod - bacalao) -Arroz con leche dessert and tea infusion My favorites were the rabo de toro (which was accompanied with delicious, lightly crispy and very garlicky artichoke and potatoes), and the empanada. We had to get out of there by 11:30pm as they were closing, so I'd recommend coming earlier to not rush and to give yourself time to wander around the gardens and admire the view.

Give one of the Bartenders a wave and that's about it. Ordered a Vermouth to start-local and tasty. I wanted to try the Flamenquin and asked what other Tapa is a good one to try (smaller). The kind Bartender suggested the Zucchini Tortilla. Solid Omelette with Zucchini and very good (but it isn't really small). Star of the show was the Flamenquin (and this alone would've been enough unless sharing) Pork with peppers breaded and fried with a side of Patatas-excellent and I haven't seen this one anywhere else locally. Friendly people behind the Bar. Just gently navigate your way to the Bar for your order-friendly local crowd. Surprisingly, they slowed down shortly after I arrived. Must be Holiday on a Monday night effect.

It gets really busy after 8pm. We eventually got some free room at the bar and we ordered several nice tapas to eat along with some cañas (small glasses of beer). She gave us Victoria which is a Malaga beer brand and it was really good... The place was loud, lively and fun. A really cool place to stop by if you are in the area.
