Yelp, you didn't fail me once again. I was in dire need of an eyebrow wax (like caterpillar status) and haven't found a place in Concord yet to get them done. I'm always skeptical because I don't want anyone messing with my money maker! Anyways, I was running errands today and eyebrow wax was the last thing on my list. I called another place and no one answered so I called Alicia. She was able to take me right away. Boy am I glad that other place wasn't by the phone! She was absolutely fabulous. She had a waiver to sign, which was actually refreshing because it convinced me that she was going to do what was best for my skin/brows. I tried booking a facial through Alicia about a month ago online and most dates were filled up. I called Alicia to see if there were any other times available, unfortunately there wasn't so I got on the waitlist for cancellations. She has always gotten back to me pretty quickly, which is amazing. A couple days ago Alicia called me then texted me saying there was a cancellation and I took the opportunity! This should've been done 2 months ago, but I just signed up for Yelp. ALICIA is the BEST!! I went to her twice and both experiences were great! =P First time I went to see her was 05/08/10. Like most people, I searched online and read reviews and I was debating who to call, but finally I got over my "uncomfortable-ness" and just called her. For someone who has never done either of them before, I was super nervous. We had a 20 minutes phone call; she explained me the process and answered all my "newbie" questions. She was the first call I made and the last I made. Alicia was able to see me that same day and take care of my needs. I got to the place, it's a small room, but it was a calm environment and not to mention very clean. She was very welcoming at the door and was even more exciting that I was being a first timer!! All throughout the waxing, she kept a conversation going and kept my mind elsewhere. She uses hard wax (where it dries on your skin and she just peels it, not the yellow wax with the white peel off strips)... the process was quick and easy. I admit, a little painful at first, but the pain shortly went away. Next was the airbrush tan. She has a foldable tent that she puts up if you need that service; otherwise it's stored in the closet so it won't be overcrowding the room. She was very detailed about the spray and making it even (especially the edges and tight corners). If you thought one area needed more color, or it was uneven, she was more than happy to touch up. She preferred you to say something since 2 sets of eyes is better than one. She was able to pick out a color for me just by looking at my skin tone (olive skin). She said I could even go a shade darker if I wanted to. I loved my tan because I wasn't a walking orange glow-stick; the color was just right. The color only lasted about a week; I didn't get all spotty or blotchy and the tan faded nicely. I was completely satisfied with both the Brazilian and the Airbrush Tan =P [Second Experience] I called her two days before my trip asking if she had anything available being that it was last minute thing. She set me up the morning of my LV trip for my birthday. I only did the Brazilian this time. Second time and I felt little to no pain. Less than 30 minutes and it was another successful experience. No complaints what-so-ever! I plan to make another visit in August, possibly explore the other services she offers. 5 STARS for ALICIA!! She works hard at what she does and knows how to keep the mood. What I like about her is that she's a bubbly person and keeps it real. I stumbled upon her through yelp at her previous location (My Divine Skin which is now closed) and followed her to her very own place without batting an eye! I go to Alicia for her amazing wax jobs - eyebrows, lip, soul patch (yes, I will admit it!), and brazilian. We always have a great time (two words - waterproof mascara - tons of laughing when we're together!). She is very thorough and makes you check to make sure you're happy with the job she's done. 5 stars for the wonderful facial from Alicia! I went in for a 60 minute Rejuvination facial because I saw that there was a special on Yelp - only $40! It's no surprise to me that About Skin has 5 stars on Yelp because I definitely did receive 5 star service! Alicia is extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and made me feel very comfortable. She explained exactly what she was going to be doing to my face and customized a unique masque that was perfect for my skin type. I've only been to one other facial place besides here, and About Skin is far superior. Usually I leave my other facial place with super oily skin with red spots all over (from the extractions). Alicia put a customized masque on me that balanced out my combination skin (oily in the T-zone but normal in other areas) and my face didn't look shiny at all! In fact, it felt smooth the whole day and there weren't any obvious areas of redness where Alicia performed her extractions. I've had to up my four-star to a five-star review for both Alicia's waxing and spray tan services (waxing has always been a five). I've had several spray tans by Alicia, and they've all turned out relatively well, with my first one and my most-recent one being the best! I've had one or two that fade a little weird, but I really think that's more "my bad" than hers. Alicia is seriously the best. She's so easy to talk to, and making appointments is really easy, too. As long as you give her a couple days/times to choose from, you'll always get something that works. Since she's a one-woman show, you can't expect her to always answer the phone during business hours (really, how professional would it be to answer your call while she's staring at someone else's delicate area??), or to get a last-minute appointment, but Alicia doesn't disapoint. read more

She really knows how to make you feel comfortable. Not to mention, she really knows her stuff! She gave me great advice on my wax, on skincare, and on makeup. She was able to squeeze in some extra time for me so I added on an eyebrow wax which turned out great! She took two very different, uneven eyebrows and made them look nice and even. I went in for a brazilian wax when I was 38 weeks pregnant and Alicia was amazingly kind and very attentive!! She is so warm and friendly and was constantly vigilant to ask if I was comfortable -- relatively speaking! Alicia is the best! I wish I had called this place sooner. I received a facial yesterday and it was definitely one of the best I have ever had and I have had many. The work was great! My skin was glowing afterwards and to top it all off she was very easy to talk to and professional. So am such a satisfied Yelp customer. Alicia is fabulous. I went and saw her the day before I left for my Vegas vacation for a little pick me up. I am super white and didn't want to scare small children at the pool when I put on my swimsuit. Conversely, I was nervous that I would look like a 5'7'' Ompa-Lumpa roaming the Strip. Neither of those happened! When I first called Alicia to schedule an appointment, she was more than willing to answer any question I had and then when my appointment finally rolled around, she made me feel completely comfortable. From "strip down" to "air dry," my entire appointment was probably an hour. The entire time, we had a charming conversation and I didn't even mind that I was talking to a complete stranger while topless! I had shopped around and did some homework before picking Alicia. She is unbelievably well priced- $25 bucks from head to toe. An additional $10 to go darker (I did ;o) ) I will definitely be coming back for more tanning and to try her other services. LOVE LOVE LOVE Alicia! She is the BOMB! Went to her for my very first Brazilian sugaring, and was super nervous and anxious at the same time because I'm no super model, lol. In any case she was so down to earth and really made me feel comfortable with her. If you can't feel comfortable with your aesthetician, then you probably should have her pulling hair out of places only your hubby or man should be...lol. About the sugaring process. I've never had a brazilian wax and from what I've heard and read it is not the most pleasant experience, however, since sugaring, it feels like a massage. Now there is some stinging because you are pulling hair from it's roots, but it really isn't as bad as waxing and its much healthier and bette for your skin. Alicia is great about explaining the process, and walking you through it. She talks to you almost the whole time that you really don't even notice and then she's done! But what makes her so awesome is her personality and her ability to make you feel comfortable around her. There are very few people who really have that ability to calm me down when I'm that nervous, and she did an amazing job. Plus it grew back softer, less hair, and I didn't even feel it growing back.
