My pit tie is a a good wittle baby buttercup sugar bottom snookie cookie lover girl-- selectively. But mostly she's just a little brat. The little brat, despite being rather large *cough obese cough whale cough* and a much feared big bad pit bull at that, is petrified of mommy's little nail clippers. So I did a little google search, "how to cut little brat pitbulls long nails" and found nothing at all helpful, me just as I was about to give up all hope- i found it, the perfect solution to my tedious problem. I found a short clip of a woman who also has a brat with long nails, and she ingeniously wrapped her own head with shrink wrap of a sort, and then smeared peanut butter all over her shrink wrapped head, and her little bratty butt dog licked and licked away, while genius mommy took the moment of distraction to do the job. So I took off down the road to my neighborhood pet store, About Pets. And although, I did not return with peanut butter or shrink wrap, I did find a snuffle mat with a clever detachable silicone slab with grooves in it, AND suction cups, perfect for the dreaded and much feared bath day events of mine. Totally awesome. Anyway, none of that was important, but I felt the background details would be pleasant incase another Yelper has big bad scarcdy cats with such anxieties alike. But anyway x2, this locally owned pet store is great. Love it. The man behind the pet shoppe, Nole, freakin genius himself too. Real terrific guy. Know his stuff, very knowledgeable about pets. Quite opinionated, and I love an opinionated person. Prices are aligned with terrible big chain pet stores like you know who, whose name doesn't need naming on this 5 star pet shop review for ABOUT PETS, haha. He doesn't carry garbage either, he's got something for every price point, but he doesn't waste his shelf space with crap, which is totally appreciated as well. Was in the area, so stopped to see if they had our dogs brand of food. They did not, which is fine, I was ready to grab a meal topper that we regularly buy (elsewhere). Store is a disheveled mess, not a lot of space, and the owner kind of followed my daughter and I as we went to grab food. He asked why I'm feeding my dogs (brand) of food. Owner then started in on a tirade of how I am giving my dogs "fat bombs" and should be feeding them grain free, which is all he sells here. I've done research myself and regularly buy high quality food from Mud Bay. I told him my vet does not recommend this diet and he said my vet is lying to me and continued berating my choice of dog food. I asked what he recommended then, and he pointed something out. When I said I don't feed my large dogs grain free, he just kind of lost it. I'm open to new ideas and knowledge but, wow, he delivery is poor. I told him I would look into it and took other food up to counter to pay. He didn't stop- looked at my daughter and asked if I would feed her processed food for each meal. Super rude and scared my daughter. Not once did he ask what kind of dogs I have or care. He seemed to almost want to argue about dog food which I wasn't interested in. This was an extremely strange experience. I wish I would have not purchased other food from him, but I was so startled. I don't know if it's a good thing but I guess I came at a time the owner (male?) wasn't around but there was a lady who was kind to help! She asked me if I needed help with anything and I told her it's my baby's birthday tomorrow (I know, on Valentine's Day)! He's very matter of fact and he's incredibly smart. He shared a lot very important information with me today that was tough to swallow but I respect him immensely for sharing the truth regarding the pet food industry (which honestly I've suspected for a long time). The older gentleman with the bowl haircut seemed great and knowledgeable the first time we met him but every time I've gone back he didn't make me feel very welcome and acted annoyed when I didnt know exactly what dog food I wanted (wanted to try different brands for my pup which he even suggested prior). I've worked plenty of retail to know that this guy has crap customer service skills. I get that he's got a lot of knowledge, but he should be wary against advising people to go against veterinarian recommendations. The cashier was looking down at his phone my entire visit and didn't even look up when greeting me. What's worse than trying to shop and have some know it all bombard you with their opinions and supposed knowledge to the point of insult and you forget why you even walked into the store in the first place? It's one thing if you are seeking advice, but that is not the case here. Be ready for unsolicited comments and suggestion regardless if you asked for it. I've tried to go here twice now as the location is very convenient but I left both times feeling like I was forced to stand up for myself as being a responsible and knowledgeable pet owner. I'm done trying to justify myself in order to buy what I know I need for my pets. I'll make the trek to Mud Bay from now on for sure! Look, I only wanted the food and treats my animals are used to having and that I trust to be of quality. If you don't carry the brand so be it. Don't try to make me feel like I'm a bad pet owner for giving them what you deem as unsuperior products just because you are one of the few stores of your caliber not to carry them. I don't see the purpose of changing their diet which is proven to spur digestive issues. I don't buy Alpo or cheap crap, I invest in my beloved pals and buy them only the best such as EVO, California Naturals, Merrick, Innova and Wellness. I have 5 thankfully healthy animals and work in the industry so communicate with others and read up on information regularly to keep them that way. You should never assume that all of your visitors are ignorant. Sadly I have to agree with the other low reviews. This gentleman is so condescending and seems only interested in spouting off about his beliefs. The thing that sucks is that I think he is probably right about some things but his personality and the way he speaks to his customers is such a turn off, that you can't appreciate any of it. I went in because I had just adopted a dog and wanted to get a bit of the food he had been eating previously. But I made the fatal mistake of asking for a food that had a grain in it. This started.....I kid you not....a 35 minute rant/lesson to me about why he doesn't carry any. He had no interest in knowing about my new pet that I was so excited about. While the owner (?) was quite opinionated, I appreciated his advice as we're trying to solve a flea problem. At the same time, we've been researching a different food choice for our 3 dogs. We happened upon this store after visiting Edmonds' Next to Nature (where the staff didn't seem too knowledgeable about solutions, only the products on their shelves). We ended up switching to Timberwolf bison hard dog food for our dogs. I am hopeful our dogs' skin and coat will be thankful. I will write more after we've tested it. read more

This is a great place to get natural specialty dog food. Nolan is a very friendly and talkative person and is always pleasant. You can buy your food by the individual pound here or special order it. I used to get my dogs food in Seattle until I found this place. I can't stress enough how easy Nolan is to work with. My dogs eat Nature's Logic which is a hard brand to find in stores but not only can I get it here but for a fantastic price! The teriyaki place two doors down is also a great spot to grab some human food while you're about! Would recommend. read more

HUGE selection of anything you could imagine, from raw food diets (frozen) to a giant selection of dry and wet food (for all sorts of animals). Toys, collars, leashes, furniture, treats.. anything your pet could ever want! We stopped in today to buy some organic frozen yogurt for our puppy. The staff was helpful and answered our questions, and helped us find what we were looking for. The only bad thing is that it was a bit pricey, but I don't mind paying a little more to support local stores that obviously pride themselves on quality. We'll be coming back here soon! read more

I used to be cool with this store, shopped here for about a year to get our dogs food. I tried to give the owner the benefit of the doubt, he just seemed lonely and awkward to me. But over the last year, I have had a couple of bad situations occur here. One was that the owner informed me one time that the food I am feeding my dogs "was the worst food" that he carries and that he only carried it to give a cheap option to owners. First off, I feed my dogs Taste of the Wild which is actually rated really well, better than some of the other brands he does carry. It's a 5 star food according to Dog Food Advisor, and has held its stars rating for years now. Second, Taste of the Wild was the first food we found that our dog, who has severe allergies, was able to tolerate and thrive on. He then tried to upsell me a different brand that I had already tried with my dog and they had a severe allergic reaction to it. When I told him that food isn't going to work because my dog is allergic to something in it, he told me i was wrong! It just rubbed me the wrong way that he would argue with me about what I am choosing to feed my dogs, but also argue with me that the food I had already tried "couldn't possibly cause an allergic reaction because it has better quality ingredients." I tried to let that interesting social interaction slide, again, thinking he must just be awkward and unaware of proper interactions. I went back one more time, and on this occasion I decided to pick up some bulk hooves and glucosamine treats, just because it was more convenient than going to the other pet store I usually use for treats. The hooves were significantly more expensive, as was the glucosamine treats, but I bought them anyways. About two weeks into giving my dog her glucosamine treats daily, I was reading the back and noticed that the treats had expired almost two years prior! I was appalled, and I threw away the remainder of the treats immediately. I won't be back to this store ever again. I can no longer give the benefit of the doubt for his behavior - how can someone pretend they care so much about dog nutrition when they clearly are selling high protein treats that are nearly two years expired? I am so lucky my dog did not become horribly ill from his carelessness. My best advice for the owners is this: Make sure you are truly selling quality food that has the best interest of the dogs (your clientele) in mind. These dogs are family to your customers, and they wouldn't feed their human family members expired food, so why would it be okay to do it to their dog family members? Also, remember you are not an expert on ALL aspects of dog food, and not every dog is the same. Learn from your customers, and maybe humble yourself to hearing other people's feedback too. You might actually learn more if you listen to every source, not just certain sources about dog nutrition. read more

Wide arrangement of products. I own a 3 year old dog and so i have frequented this store. I like their variety and the quantity of their products, however the male owner of the place can be quite opinionated and borderline rude. I think i know my dog best and i dont claim to be a know it all but the owner does. Purchased a toy that was supposed to be a long lasting play toy but my 30 pound dog was able to rip it open in about 3 minutes. I took it back advising them that they probably shouldnt sell it and advertise it as a durable play toy if a 30 pound dog could rip it so easily. They did not offer a refund or anything. I had stopped in here a few times before actually making a purchase. I was in the market for new scratching post for my kitty and another shop recommended this place to me. My boyfriend and I went in about a week before Christmas to buy our cat his gift since we would be out of town and wanted him to have to play with. They had the best selection I've ever seen in the area for scratching posts!! My goodness! There were so many to choose from we were in there forever! We finally decided on one and were glad to find it was reasonably priced, especially compared to the chain stores around. Our cat LOVES it. He thinks he's a mountain cat and is on it all the time. The girl working didn't even laugh when my clumsy booty hit myself in the face with the one we finally picked! That was much appreciated. :-) I will definitely be back when it's time to purchase another one. They also have a great selection of food and other toys for dogs and cats. I'm so glad that About Pets has moved back to their old location! It's not the flashiest pet store, but they have a great variety of quality pet foods, natural cat litters, treats, supplements, pet toys, cat towers, etc. Several reviews mention having issues with the owner, but I've never had any problem with him. In fact, he was more helpful than my vet was when my cat was very ill due to what is likely feline inflammatory bowel disease. The vet wanted to do more tests to rule out lymphoma, but after $600+ in labs, I decided to hold off on more tests and went into About Pets for advice. She isn't "cured," but she is much, much better after changing from dry grain-free food to an all raw diet. I've never had a bad experience with this shop. Everyone is always very helpful and they are always happy to answer any questions you have, or give you samples if you're curious about a type of food. read more

His personality is a bit different, but he is a valuable source of information. He was able to tell me exactly what I needed to know. A few months later I wanted advise for my dogs arthritis. I am not one to leave reviews but this place needed one. I went in looking for a specific food for my dogs. When I walked in the guy at the counter was on his phone and didn't acknowledge me. As I started to walk around I noticed a bunch of open bags of dog and cat food which I thought was odd. The store was super dirty and cluttered. There was places with cleaner and paper towels over it like a dog was messed on the floor and it was half cleaned up. When I turned around the man from the counter was standing behind me. It startled me and my dog. He asked me what good I was feeding. I stated nutri source and he said well we don't carry that but you can switch to a more exotic food. I said no thank you. All my dogs are happy with this food and I am too. He proceeded to tell me that it's healthy to switch food often and that all of his food is grain free and he also sells by the pound. Great, I want to feed my dogs grains because I don't want to put my dogs into heart failure and it's not healthy to switch food often- dogs digestive systems are not like humans and cannot handle it. Dogs are also omnivore and eat both meat, fruit and vegetables. I also don't think the manufacturer of all the dog food would appreciate you selling their food by the pound. I went in looking for a wider selection of CKD cat food because my tiny 15 yr old 7lb cat refuses to eat the prescribed kidney diet (she is very wise, I know how full of fillers and flavor enhancers the leading brands are). So I had been trying everything from canned to dehydrated to raw food and having no luck! She finally decided she was ok with the b.f.f. pouches of tuna & salmon apparently this exclusive meat preference is a side effect of being on dry food for most of her life. Finally hopeful that she won't just starve herself to death. Pros - Great selection for a variety of pet needs. Very knowledgeable customer service, hence their name "About Pets" ... not "Cheap Pet Supplies". Pricing was comparable to other stores. Cons - Well not really a con.... But it's understandable some people may not like being told what is best for their pets when they aren't looking for a change and see no reason for one at the time. Some may take offense at suggestions much like anyone might take offense if I suggested you cut meat out of your diet and followed that it was just so unhealthy for human consumption (hold your anger... that was just an example!). There are lots of stores that can offer you minimal or information from the manufacturer and lots of products to choose from. I'd say trust a little then do some research. Trust is earned and at this point I don't fully trust that the vets, or big box stores have my pets best interest at heart but I'll have to take their input and anyone else's under consideration and then do my own research. read more

My girlfriend, a licensed vet tech with 28 years in the industry, who manages a vet hospital in the area, and myself decided to browse this pet store. While browsing we overheard the man that was running the store, giving false guidance to a customer trying to purchase dog food for their dog who was excessively licking its paws and legs. The consumer said that their vet had told them it was a food allergy, and the employee cut them off to tell them "it is not a food allergy" and gave them some ludacris explanation for it. The consumer looked puzzled so my girlfriend said "it is definitely an allergy, it's called atopy". The employee lost his temper immediately and started yelling at her and told him to get out of his store. She even explained her credentials first thing. His behavior was very unprofessional and being that this man appeared to be in a high position like owner or manager, I would recommend to not seek advice from this individual, and would like to point out that it is very disappointing that somebody would take advantage of people in that way to just to try and increase sales. read more
