Have been going for the pancakes @ the Blue Horizon for over a year, always fantastic, went yesterday, the pancakes were below par. For the price of the pancakes they should always be excellent, they absolutely were not yesterday, they lacked taste, so disappointing. We won't be returning. Good breakfast place. Good traditional breakfast choices plus toasts and Bennies. Also had a couple of vegan options and vegetable sausage for my vegan son (make sure the few options will suit your vegan family member; son likes the tofu scramble bowl). Had the cheese and veggie omelette one day, and because that and the coffee (latte and mocha) were good, came back the next day and had the salmon and avocado toast (house smoked salmon - yum). read more

If you're a brunch-er like I am....you might wanna skip this place. If you're not and you just want some coffee and eggs then check it out. The space, atmosphere and vibe is like something in between a Denny's and a cafeteria. The service is like a Denny's if it were hungover...slightly rusty and slow. The food is ...well....trying. My coffee was served in a dirty cup which was not a good start, but the actually coffee was not terrible considering it was house. I ordered the Sausage and Biscuit. So, here's the deal...if you're going to name a dish and it's one of those that has the ingredient in the name...you might want to make sure that the ingredient is announced and present in the meal, and not just merely stirred in with the gravy....bit of a rip off and disappointment, as I was looking forward to the sausage and just got mostly gravy. I wanted my egg done medium it was hard and the biscuit was very dry. Anyway...moving on. This place was over priced and not really that good. I got the salmon Benny and it had guacamole on it and not fresh avocados. It tasted like the premade avocado spread from the store. The side of potato's was the highlight and you didn't get many of those. My friend got the greens as her side and I tried a bite and there was basically no flavor. For the rest of our stay at the blue horizon we eat else where. The waitress was alright, but not super attentive. The vibe of the place kind of felt cold like a hospital not cozy, cute, modern or fun. I would maybe try dinner here before completely writing it off. read more

Just a tip, order the cup of chowder my husband ordered the bowl (which is supposed to be bigger portion right?!) and it was smaller than the cup portion. I live in the neighbourhood so I've eaten here half a dozen times. They have a vegan breakfast bowl that is really good and my husband always gets the smoked salmon eggs benny. He's very particular about getting the eggs very soft and they've always been perfect. The restaurant is always very clean and the wait staff are great. read more

Pretty mediocre brunch experience this morning. From previous reviews and photos posted, my expectations were perhaps a bit high. Service was slow and absent-minded; we had to ask our server several times for coffee refills and I requested cream for my coffee four times before getting it. The coffee was strong and quite bitter, but a sprinkle of salt fixed that (yes, it really worked!). Food orders were mixed up and the food runner did not know seat numbers when she brought the food, so there was quite a bit of confusion when plates were delivered, despite the fact we were only a group of six. The server was apologetic and sweet, though, so it was tough to be upset with her. Sadly, the best thing on my plate was the toast and jam. I had the Marilyn's Omelet and it was quite bland. It looked boring, and it tasted exactly that. I wish I could say better things about this place, but the consensus of our group was that it was a disappointment. No chance I'll return. read more

Located in a great spot downtown the restaurant is fully accessible. The service was friendly and the food awesome. We enjoyed our meals and while the place was busy, the place was not too noisy. We had breakfast here one morning and really liked it. The staff was pleasant and helpful, and the food was high quality. The eggs were done to our liking, and the bacon was definitely NOT the cheap stuff from the grocery. This was thick and smoky and more meat than fat. Definitely good! The potatoes were cubed and pan-fried, and were tasty but needed some salt & pepper added. The blueberry muffin was chock-full of fresh fat blueberries, and was not too sweet. Reasonably priced for the quality and quantity, and for being in a hotel. Dinners look good on the menu, but I can't comment on anything besides breakfast. read more

Was looking for a nice breakfast restaurant walking in West End of Vancouver. Happened to find this place and decided to go in. I ordered the Marilyn's Omelette and was not disappointed . I ordered it without potatoes and toast and subbed in avocado and a side of bacon. I also got it with chorizo. The caramelized onions spinach, cherry tomatoes, Chorizo and cheese were a delicious combination. I was thoroughly satisfied. I'm not understanding the less than impressive reviews for this restaurant so far. On our visit, we ordered the Benny that was on special (B.C. Benny) and the Short Rib Hash. I was impressed that the poached eggs were done exactly as requested - a wonderfully sublime medium-soft! The food is unpretentious. The server explained the menu for us thoroughly and gave us some good recommendations before we decided on our order. Although the overall service could have been slightly more attentive - it was understandable since there were a few larger parties. In the end, for what the restaurant is trying to promote in its tag line of "Comfort", "Cookery", "Coffee" - it was successful on all three accounts on our visit. A follow-up review may follow when we decided to try items off the regular lunch and/or dinner menu - but Abode is worth the consideration if you happen to be in the Robson shopping district during weekend brunch hours. read more

We had dinner at Abode on a Wednesday evening in August. We had strolled along Robson Street for a few minutes debating our choices. There are plenty of ramen shops, plus a variety of dumpling places, Indian places, and other establishments that are semi-exotic if you are not from a major urban center. We'd actually had Thai and dumplings for dinner during the trip already, and were more in the mood for something at least vaguely rooted in (north) America. Service at Abode was fine. The food was okay; certainly in no way poor, but not really outstanding either. I got the feeling that they were more of a breakfast/brunch place than a dinner place, actually. Depending on what you're in the mood for, Abode is worth checking out. But it is unlikely to be the best burger you've had in years, or even in the last 6 months. If I were back in the area, I would give it a try for breakfast and update the review on that basis. read more

I was excited to go here from a walk by and the menu options. But sadly, the experience was lacking. I ordered a kombucha from the menu as a drink and rather than it served likely in the bottle it came from, I got it in a regular glass. It honestly could have just been a glass of juice. I went it for the lamb to which I was ordering- post being forgotten about in a corner for nearly 10 minutes, and after I ordered, the waitress mentioned she did not know if they had lamb because they ran out the day before.... Umm ok. So I sent her to check, they did. But the dish was sadly lacking. It desperately needed more basic seasoning and salt. This place serves a really mediocre dinner. Fish and chips were actually quite tasty, not too much batter, two large pieces for $15. The steak frites though was terrible ($18). I asked for no frites and extra salad. The salad it came with had a really yummy dressing, but it was -drowning- in dressing, an inch at the bottom of the bowl excess. Instead of extra salad, they added some baby greens and blueberries to the board (see photo uploaded). It wasn't dressed at all, and there were only like 5 blueberries but they were in really rough shape - why not just leave them out instead of serve subpar food? It was also a poor cut of steak, and although cooked well (medium rare), it was super chewy, cold by the time it got to the table, and too salty. I'd give a 4/5 for the fish and chips, a 1/5 for the steak frites, like seriously just don't order it. And a 4/5 for the ambience, it's brand new inside and cute decor. I think it's more of a brunch or glass of wine sorta place, the food is amiss. read more

I went there with my friend just to have a quick lunch before we headed to celebrate Canada Day. The location was nice since it is located near the Blue Horizon Hotel if I'm not mistaken. I ordered the pesto pasta with shrimp and their salad and they were good. Good service as well and the thing I like it was there's an outlet on the wall of each table, very convenient especially if your phone is running low. read more

I got the multi grain pancakes, which was good but since it's only that, I got tired of the taste. The omelette my partner got was great, so that's a must try. I know this place has an average of 3 stars. Perhaps that is rating for Vancouver but from my experience this is definitely a 4 star place at least for breakfast. The fruit was fresh and coffee was excellent. The meals were generous portions, hot, fresh, tasty. For me coffee with breakfast is a big deal. If the coffee isn't good then I don't want to go back again. The service was attentive and fast. We saw some people had their granola and fruit bowl which looked fantastic I would try that if I get an opportunity to go back. The restaurant was clean and the meal was reasonably priced. read more

The Muscles were a waste of money, they were dry and badly presented. Pasta was a small portion. After finished food, we crossed the street and had a Falafel sandwich cause we were still hungry :( The place resembled a cheap franchise (like Dennie's or McDonald's). I came here hungry on a weekday morning craving some eggs benny and as this place is close to home decided to give it a try. The location is very convenient, on the quieter side of Robson and usually packed with tourists that stay at the hotel upstairs. They recently went through renovations, so the furniture is updated but just your average hotel restaurant type of look. It looks a bit 90's style if you want to get technical! My server was very friendly and the service was quite fast and hassle free. I ordered the classic eggs benny with bacon and wasn't a big fan of the sauce...after all that's the only reason you'd have one. A truly spectacular dinner. Perfectly seasoned, well presented, and appetizing ambiance. I did not expect such a great, reasonably priced meal in a restaurant attached to a hotel. It's not the cheapest food on the block, but for the quality and taste of the food, this has got to be the best value in town. My dining companion and I were seated around 7 and because its fairly new, the place was not that busy. We had really attentive servers, perhaps too attentive. I could stand fewer visits to my table, but as the reputation grows and the waiters get busier, I'm sure it won't be a problem. The menu seems to change with new items depending on what's fresh, but if you get a chance to try the lamb, it is unlike ANY dried-out Greek rendering of lamb. Medium to medium rare and a sauce that was inspired. My companion had the burger, which was ground in-house so you can have it cooked as you like. Very flavorful and surprising for such a common item. There was nothing common about the taste of this burger. Whatever dish comes with the gnocchi, order it. I can't rave about the gnocchi without sounding like I'm just easy to please, but I'm not, and this side is spectacular. I'm not in Vancouver often, but this restaurant is practically a reason to fly here all by itself. read more

Late breakfast, just simple, but gorgeous eggs, tasty bacon and yummy potatoes! Not a ton of food, definitely not greasy either. We are here in Vancouver for several days so I'm sure we will be back! A charming and casual bistro that prides itself with comfort food. It is attached to the Blue Horizon hotel, so I'd imagine hotel guests would take their meals here for convenience. However, as a local, I would not have ventured in here without the prompt of a friend. On a wet and gloomy evening, we stumbled in for a table. The waitress was exceedingly friendly and offered us a nice table by the window. Only two other tables were taken. They finished up fairly quickly and left; and then there was one. The menu is simple - a few appetizers, mains and dessert options were available. "Comfort food" was right. I started with the Warmed Local Goat Cheese - supposedly on a bed of micro greens. Much to my disappointment, it was not a salad but a cheese plate. So, now you know. A bed of micro greens? Make that micro green. Singular. It was more of a garnish. Other than that, it was delicious. If you enjoy goat cheese, you will enjoy this little platter. $5. Next, I tried the Fish and Chips. A little under-seasoned for my liking. The batter was thick, but the fish was fine. The only upside to all this is that it is part of the Ocean Wise program, which I strongly support. I didn't finish my plate of Fish and Chips - no thanks to my misguided appetizer order! $15. Overall, it was nothing spectacular. We were content. While I wouldn't recommend the place, I wouldn't dismiss the idea of coming back on a rainy day, for convenience' sake, either. read more

The highlight of the dish were the beans, unfortunately there weren't a lot to enjoy. The quality of the ingredients seemed strong, but they didn't do anything too inspiring with them. We went to this place in a random manner on Robson Street. It's hotel restaurant for the Horizon's with typical clean-cut decors and a quiet atmosphere. That night, we ordered the Cobb salad and the Meatball pasta. The salad was pretty good, fresh and I like the house made ranch dressing. However, the chicken that was served with the salad was a little dry and I sensed it was precooked. As for the pasta, the noodle were cooked perfectly and the sauce was refreshing with every bite. Same as the chicken conclusion, the meatballs were a little dry and a little blend to taste. I guess this place is great for a quick meal and I would try their lunch menu. read more

I have been hearing mixed reviews of this place off and on throughout the year from other yelpers in conversation, however, decided to take the plunge and try it for myself. I have had this book marked since March 18, 2015 when I was at another yelp meet. I've been here before when it was another name and I can't say that I was impressed. They've done some upgrades since.The interior does look modern. The menu for brunch and breakfast was okay. Pricing is all over the map, however, for my $11 breakfast I had to send my bacon back. There was lots of space when I came in at around 2 pm, therefore, my meal was served quickly. I worked on my zine a bit there. Service was decent.
