I went to Able to get my brakes replaced in hope of getting a trusted mechanic locally instead of going to Queens to save time. I should have trusted the 1 star reviews by other Yelpers. I brought my car in knowing that the brake pads are worn out, Julio quoted me close to 900 bucks to have all 4 brakes and rotors replaced and told me that he would use OEM parts. It was a bit expensive, but worth it for the convenience. I drove the car off the lot and heard some rattling noise, and the noise got worse after a week. If you saw a small Mazda 3 driving down Marin but sounded like a truck....that was me. I brought the car back two weeks later, and Julio's boys took the car for a drive and told me that he couldn't hear anything as the car rattled down the street. They said they would take a look anyway. Upon my return, they told me that some of the cables were not connected properly the first time around BUT they couldn't find anything that would cause the noise. I drove my car off the lot again, rattling, and I looked back to them and they said there's nothing they can do. I bought my car to FTC Auto Repair in Woodside, and the mechanic found the issue in 5 minutes. The guy there told me that I got ripped off because the parts were not OEM and the noise came from the crappy pads sitting incorrect and loose against the rotor. He replaced both brake pads and did an oil change for 150 bucks. The theme seems to be that Able is good at body works but terrible mechanics. If you are looking for a good mechanic, try FTC... they are a bit far away from JC, but reliable and trustworthy. read more

My wife, daughter, and I were driving eastbound on Rt 495, the feeder highway to the Lincoln Tunnel on a recent Sunday afternoon when the clutch died on our Subaru rendering our vehicle inoperable. Our primary mechanic is in NYC and since a tow from New Jersey to the City would be prohibitively expensive we were scrambling for an alternative. A friend recommended Able Auto in Jersey City and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. We had the car towed on Sunday evening and I met with Julio Cavijo (owner) on Monday morning. A disabled vehicle at a repair facility is a near perfect recipe for a rip-off, but Julio was fair and above-board about what the costs for labor and materials would be and how long the repairs would take. Let's face it, clutch replacements are expensive, but the labor rates, time, and costs for parts were all at or under what I was able to find on the Internet. All parts and labor are warranted for six months. So far, I've driven over 400 miles without any issues. The staff was courteous and extremely helpful. One of the guys even gave me a ride to the Jersey City PATH station for my return trip to NYC. Overall I'm more than satisfied with the service I've received at Able Auto and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of regular or emergency repairs. read more

first review : may 2018 i am very skeptical of mechanics and body shops . so in the beginning of the summer i had issues with my ac back in may . i googled for shops and julio owner of this shop was given immense reviews about actually carinf about his customers and respecting their cars and hard earned money. i drove over and guess what it was everything i read and more. i was walked through what they had to do with the ac since im clueless about cars and then proceeded to give me an amazing price being aware of bad circumstances at the time. he also changed my oil for a fair price. if you are in jersey city i only recommend you to go to able and speak to julio and his honest and hard working team. second review: june 2018 i thought i would only have to give them one review but these men deserve two from me . a month after trusting them , i got into some trouble and got two bad run flat tires on my 2008 bmw 328 xi and the guys at able autoworks spent a lot of time researching the most affordable but great long lasting tires for me to get and still remain conscious of my economical state. they always help me save moneh while at the same time receiving quality work and parts. these people care about human beings and have integrity and respect for their customers highly recommend !!! read more

Able is a miracle worker.someone recently hit & ran off- hitting my car from the left side street parking'' my tail light- passenger side- area was messed up badly-watch how you drive jersey folks!! . I will post before and after pics soon.Took my car in for repairs, much needed oil change,brake fluid flush,and other repairs -i was stressed out alot ,but,after taking my car to Julio,I had complete faith in him.I felt a lot better,especially since he kept in constant contact,gave updates on work for my vehicle!! I needed a new inspection sticker for my car. Because the care was a newer model, I was told that it would take longer to receive the sticker (a couple of hours). This was a problem for me because I had my baby with me and it was raining outside. Julio was kind enough to offer to drive me home in my car, and pick me up after the inspection was complete. I told him that I was trying to get out of the city before rush hour. Therefore, after picking me up, he told me that I could come in later and pay the rest of my balance on the inspection sticker (it cost $80 and I only had $60 in cash). He helped me load my car, drove me to a block away from his shop, and jumped out so that I was on the proper street to get out of the city as fast as possible. His kindness went beyond what any person should reasonably expect from their mechanic, and I wholeheartedly recommend Able Autoworks to anyone seeking an honest and helpful shop. read more

Julio is probably one of the most caring, customer-first guys I've ever come across. I'm naturally an anxious person who doesn't know much about cars so it was really important for me to understand what was going on so I wasn't being taken advantage of. He made sure to show me everything and explained why it wasn't working and I even had him explain it to my friend who is really good at cars and he made sure that I got a good deal on parts and discussed options with me. He discussed pricing before work was ever started. And he even drove me home after so I didn't have to figure it out on my own. The next day he showed me everything they replaced and it was honestly the best experience. And he charged me fairly. I highly recommend him and his shop. I stopped at Able Autoworks because I had repair done at this shop about 2 years ago. They found the problem with my car and actually fixed the check engine light. Two previous mechanics couldn't get it done and I failed inspection twice until Able Autoworks corrected the problem. Mickey was knowledgeable and helpful. I don't know the past problems some individuals may have had with this shop but these are good guys and professional mechanics. I will recommend them to everyone that needs a honest and knowledgeable mechanic and will do business with them. In business unfortunately, enough people with positive experience do not write. but people with gripe are a lot more vocal. good job guys read more

I brought my Honda minivan into Able Autoworks for a repair estimate after an accident and an estimate for brakes and tires. Julio gave my car a complete inspection, better than the dealer I use. He gave me options for tires, and we discussed the repairs and body work. The car was ready when promised and looks amazing, inside and out. I would never know I was hit. The color match is great. The only thing missing is the new car smell. I was impressed with their professionalism, service - they brought me home from the shop, and outstanding work both on the body and mechanical needs. First time using this establishment. Told the owner I would give an honest review good or bad. I Brought in my Jeep to have new shocks, struts, muffler, replaced, and air conditioner fixed. Staff was friendly, informative, and knowledgeable. Julio(owner) took out the time to discuss options and brands. Tony (lead mechanic) did a great job on my vehicle. The entire staff was very professional. We did have a small communication issue concerning the air condition repair, but Julio and I discussed it and they got the job done as promised. The owner Julio is very helpful and kind. I have a 2002 Volkswagon golf and I was having problems with my engine and brakes. as a college student I was so nervous about the price. I dropped my car off in the AM to replace the tail light, get an oil change, and complete inspection. The process was very fast, and the team also buffed out several scratches that I had from several years of using a parking garage with neighbors who don't care about one another. Just got my car restored from being a total loss (as declared by the insurance adjuster) to near new condition. They did both the body work, where the Jeep drove thru the side, and the mechanical work on the suspension, brakes, and electrical systems. All in house work. It costs us about a grand more than what the insurance company paid. And our deductible is $750. Less than a week to complete. I can't think of anything he could have done better. read more

Service my beloved Forester there. Guys were very knowledgeable and polite. Had all 4 brakes rotors, oil change and state inspection done in 3 hours. I even got 1 year limited warranty for the work.
