Man... I know I review and check in to Abjuration Brewing a LOT. I can't help it though because I haven't reviewed it in a while and I continue to go often. What can I say?! Abjuration is awesome! Honestly we are probably there at least once every few weeks. They generally do a new release or two each week so there is always something new to try. They announce each release on Facebook. They offer online ordering and then allow two weeks to pickup. They make the whole process easy. Oh and even better you can order single cans so if you are unsure if you will like something or just want some variety you are set. The staff here is phenomenal. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. They are knowledgeable and happy to help you find a beer you will truly enjoy. I have witnessed them go above and beyond to make sure a customer was happy with her experience. They recognize the regulars and always offer a greeting. It is one of the things that makes this place special. They have a beer garden set up now with picnic tables and a fire pit. It's nice because it offers up extra space. I have heard people ask what Abjuration is known for. It seems to be for their "weird" beers. Honestly they have some of the widest variety of beers anywhere around and yes that includes some weird ones. They are the brewery responsible for getting us hooked on sours. They make sours with herbs that drink more like a cocktail. They have sours made with ice cream or candy (or multiple candies in one) or straight fruited sours. They truly run the gamut. They always have some basic easy drinkers on like a lager, a brown, a Kolsch, etc. I have heard their IPAs are good (though I'm not an IPA drinker). They don't do stouts often but have put out some good ones. They also have done a few different rice wines that are unique and delicious. Abjuration just keep doing what you are doing and killing it. Racist ownership. Walked in and he immediately had an attitude, no costumer service at all. As soon as I walked in he looked me up and down didn't even say two words before he started judging me. He asked for my ID , I said I'm not drinking. He said do you have guardians? I said , no i'm 30. He said well if you would have given me your IDwe can go from there. Creatively used space, great to hang with friends! The inside is dimly light and has several high top tables, bar seating, and a few 4-person low tops. There's a small kitchen operating inside with a somewhat limited menu, a larger outdoor space with picnic tables, and a huge movie screen inside to watch movies or sports. They alternated between basketball and movies when I was there. The staff were friendly and quick to suggest a few beers and provide samples. The parking outside is along the street, but there's plenty. They have one unisex bathroom that was somewhat clean. read more

I never knew this place existed til I was asked to meet someone there. What a great use of space. This is in the heart of McKees Rocks in an old theater space. It looked like the theater is still used for entertaining. They offer all their beers in beaker glasses which was cute. They have a very helpful board rating the beers as far as if they are sour or not, alcohol content and pricing. There is a very nice outdoor space with fire pits and picnic tables as well and the indoor space has a garage door in front that easily can open for nice days to enjoy the weather. read more

This brewery in the Rocks marked the 102nd brewery that I've visited. Marking that I've officially visited every microbrewery in the Pittsburgh region and let me tell you there is a lot. More are on the way, and I'll need to visit the new ones. Sadly I didn't know until this year that this place existed. How did I not know. One thing is that I love Hazy IPA's or Pale Ale's, they are my go to drink. What I do not like is a sour. However I tried a couple of their sours and damn are they the best that I've ever tasted. This place is unique it's in part of an old theater. They still have comedy nights here on the weekends it appears. The place looks a little scary, but it's perfectly fine area from what I've gathered. I can't wait to come back here again. Great place. read more

When closed, owner allows popusas, etc from newly opened Hispanic restaurant next door. They have comedians and jazz music on certain nights. They also show a movie occasionally (1 screen). So you walk into the Parkway theater & Film lounge & bar & there is fun brewery inside. They had at least 15 beers on tap. I was intrigued to try one of their sours made with fish shaped candy!! Yum. Our group of 3 tried several tastings. You can do 2 4oz pours as a flight & they are served in a mini beaker!! Check them out. We will be back in the warmer weather. read more

After living in Asheville for several years you realize how spoiled you are with good beer after moving 8 hours away. Stumbled upon this brewery by finding their 3 year anniversary party event online. I'm really glad we decided to stop by and see what it was all about. I learned quickly Pittsburgh is big on German style beers with less room for creative styles. I know they're out there.. I'm still exploring!! But Abjuration has some of the most fun combinations to sip on and explore. There really wasn't one I didn't like. My favorite was the chocolate chili pepper stout.. I don't remember the exact name but it was worth ordering 2 of! Can't wait to go back and continue trying all the fun beers they come out with! We also look forward to checking out comedy night and some other events that are hosted there and/or next door at the theater. Bonus points for being on our side of town! read more

Abjuration has become one of my favorite breweries lately. It's extremely easy to find and has such creative beer flavors! Their weekly newsletter is delivered to me by email and I always look forward to what they'll come up with next. Some of my favorite beers Abjuration released were so fun to try. One of my absolute favorites ever was the Fresh Fest Digifest collab and the beer was a sour conditioned on blue sour candy. Amazing. It tasted just like candy but was also a delicious beer that I enjoyed so much. It was super exclusive so I only got a single can, but hopefully they release more next year! Among the other unique beers that I got to try were a banana bread sour, a mango boba tea beer, a seasonal chocolate marshmallow cereal ale, and a botanical sour with rosemary. That one tasted like a chilly Christmas in a glass, I loved it. I'm looking forward to trying more beers from Abjuration and maybe having one on tap when COVID settles down! read more

This place brews some great fruited sours and crazy combinations. Pours range from 5, 8, or 16 oz so you don't have to commit too hard to the fun flavors so it was easy to try several to find your favorite. Nice outdoor space and what looked like a great movie setup as well! Highly recommended for adventurous beer seekers! read more

OMG I love this place and the pours!!! Some of the best brewery pours in the Pittsburgh area. McKeesRocks is just a few minutes from the city and so worth the visit. Abjuration is inside the movie theatre and separate bar. It's a really cool set up and concept. I love the glasses that the pours are served in. Our friend Quinn is one of the owners. Don't worry, if this place sucked I'd let you know. Friend or not. Seriously the pours pack such flavor and go down so smoothly. If you like sours, Abjuration continues to knock it out of the park with unique sours and smoothies. Admittedly, the flavor profiles can be quirky, but we like them for fun. The prices are affordable compared to other craft breweries. We ordered a flight of available sours at $2 each, and it was fun to sample and compare. Cans to take home were $5 each, also a low price. My sole "complaint" is the atmosphere. They share space with a bar across the room,and mask-wearing can seem optional. There was no food and no snacks for purchase this time. I think even bags of chips or pretzels would be a nice addition. If I could give 3 1/2 stars, that might be more accurate, but it's still worth a trip to the Rocks to sample every so often. read more

Don't do reviews much on here, but my hat's off to this place. Granted, I was a little confused as to where to enter the brewery (the theater entrance), but was pleasantly surprised with the chill, dimly-lit atmosphere. The outdoor patio was cool, too. What impressed me the most, was the churro sour. I usually can't stand sours, but this one was/is fantastic! I *gulp* even bought a 4-pack...that good. Miranda was really cool, too. Scene: mid Saturday afternoon. Looking for a place to get a local beer, Ladyfriend and I drive over to this joint in the West Park area of greater Pittsburgh. Sits in the lobby of a small old movie theater. Was quiet - just us, three other tables of a couple patrons each, and the incredibly friendly and helpful bartender (shaved head guy). With $2/5 oz. pours available, we had a flight of the cream ale (perfectly fine, clean light flavor) and the trail mix brown ale (hint if a nut flavor, again like the cream ale not very robust, a light flavor) and the two stars of the show - the cheesecake and the bomb pop sours. Both very good sours, not overly tart, really captures the flavor of cheesecake and bomb pop, respectively. Both we'd happily have again. Several other sours on tap, and we'd have tried more of not for the need to go get some food (The Eagle, downtown Pittsburgh, very perfectly OK, probably no need to return to that). I've been to Abjuration a couple of times and I love their IPA's. I like the fact it's a small space next to a movie theater. The people working the bar are always friendly and fun. As much as I love the IPA's here, the Farmhouse Ale is also really good. read more

This was such a fun little spot! Grabbed a few drinks here with a friend, and we were so happy to have found it. Great vibe, the service was awesome, and the beers were served in cute little beakers. I stopped by here this past Saturday afternoon with my wife for drinks. Abjuration Brewing is located on McKees Rocks right on Broadway street in the old Manor Theater. We found out about it from an article about new breweries that I was reading since it was not on Yelp at that point in time. Part of that I am sure is because they just opened in December (17) and so they are fairly new. I would guess the other part of this is that they share their space with a full service bar. So while the beer is allowed out into the bar area, drinks are not allowed into the brewery area. I would guess this is because of licensing but don't really know. In any case it takes up a side of the building and is nicely done with stainless tables. For drinks on this day I decided to order samplers of what the owner called the hop trio. An American Pale Ale, a Honey Double India Pale Ale and a Double India. He would only allow people to order three samples at a time and who is to argue with him? Thankfully my wife was there and so we also ordered one of his mixology creations. Upon talking to him further we found out that he used to be a mixologist and so continued that on with the beers here. So if you ordered the 8 or 16 oz blonde, you got it with either raspberry/rosemary, apricot/sage and a third one which we don't remember. We ultimately ended up trying the raspberry/rosemary and after finishing our first samples ordered the farmhouse Ale and a hazelnut coffee latte Ale. First off let's talk about the blonde with rosemary and raspberry. It was a great combination that both my wife and I loved. The blonde was flavorful and yet light enough to take on the fruit and herb combination which definitely enhanced it. As for the rest of the beers, all were very good and quite representative of their types. The farmhouse Ale had that good and funky taste of a wild yeast (a good saison) while the coffee beer had the earthiness from the hazelnuts while still carrying quite a bit of the coffee flavor. Last but certainly not least was the hop trio of which all certainly had a good amount of hops and good flavor to them. My favorite of the bunch was the honey double India pale ale which is named for the honey hop that it utilized and not from the honey you were probably thinking of. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. I liked the location of Abjuration Brewing and thought that all of their beers were quite good. If you are a fan of craft beer then I highly recommend that you check this place out! read more

Probably one of my favorite breweries in the area. Usually a good selection of beers, some traditional beer styles and then some more unconventional experimental beers. The guys working are always friendly and excited to talk beer and explain the techniques used in various beers It is located inside of the Parkway Theater which is a working one screen theater that shows mostly indie films (I think). The space is divided with Abjuration on the left side, a large tv screen in the middle, and a bar on the right side, the theater is in a separate room off the side of the bar. read more

A funky little place that is not your typical nano brewery. The beers are all special and not the typical versions of each style. They are all unique, but still true. Two favorites are the Rice/barley wine and No boil IPA. Even the beers that were not my favorite styles were great and I could appreciate each. The place also has a full bar on one side for the non-beer drinkers and a 45 seat movie theater (I need to come back for that). Go!!! read more

Great brew in a vintage movie theater. This is one of my favorite brewery hangouts in all of pittsburgh. It has a laid back comfy feel and with high top seating and a few sofa chairs in front of a big screen tv. Their craft beers are tasty and the brewer, not sure his name, is friendly and always willing to strike up a conversation. There's also a bar inside the same space as the brewery so if craft brew isn't your jam there are alternatives. Be sure to call ahead because I've been here to the brewery area when the bar section has been closed. They also have a vintage movie theater in the back which has been modernized, where they play older movies from time to time. In addition on weekends they have small selection of bites for purchase. The only drawback to this brewery is it's not in the best of areas, but if you're from a city or used to city life it's really not that bad. Just be smart and park close. If it's daylight no worry all is good. This is definitely in my top 5 breweries and not just for is beer but also it's ambiance. read more

The science theme is awesome. They had Fornite on the projector for any interested gamers. My friend had some sort of raspberry jam whipped cream beer that she really liked. Fiancé and I had different IPAs but strangely enough, our throats felt scratchy as if the beers were too acidic. I'm not sure if maybe it was just a bad batch or what...we'll have to revisit for more conclusive results. *Location: It's right next to the movie theatre. I read about this brewery in the paper so we decided to stop by for a beer on a Saturday night. We ended up staying for a few hours and trying all of their beers. It's definitely one of the coolest places I've been to in Pittsburgh. There was a jazz band playing for most of the night, a giant tv screen with the pirate game, and a cinema playing a documentary about breweries in PA. The clientele were old, young, rich, poor, black, white and everything in between. I loved the vibe and the beers were delicious. Will definitely return and I will definitely spread the word about this bar/brewery/movie theater. The owners were there and were very friendly/talkative. They had 8 beers on tap and they were all decent. My favorite was the malty Amber. They even put whipped cream on the orangesicle ale . Come here or be square. read more

The owner asked for my ID. I'm over 30 and I definitely look that. I would have felt flattered if the owner had let me be there and not have a drink because I did not present an ID. He made us leave, although my friend had his ID, saying that I have be over 21 and prove it to be on the premises. I understand that places have rules, and I always respect that. Here's the best part - A BABY WAS AT A TABLE NEARBY!!! So it is okay for babies to be on the premises, but not an adult, who swears to be over 21, has a picture of her ID, promises not to drink, and just wants to sit there and have a good time with friends!! Honestly, I really loved this place! I had the cereal beer (Apple Jacks infused with an Apple Jacks rim) and it was SO GOOD! The owner is really nice and takes the time to talk to every customer and get to know them. He let us sample same beers and told us the background behind each one and how he got the ideas for them. He told us that all of the recipes for the beers are also online for anyone to try themselves, which is really cool. The overall vibe of the place was awesome, too! And although it wasn't busy when we went, I could see it being a really cool spot when it is super busy. Frankly, I like when places are quieter so I can enjoy the atmosphere and write a better review anyway. Also, the parking is pretty great as well. And it's in a movie theatre, which is good to know if you want cool beer and to watch a good movie. I wish we had gotten there before the food "cart" left! It's also it's own separate entity from the brewery but it's within the space and it would be cool to go back and eat while enjoying a fabulous beer! I'll definitely be back. You are able to sit anywhere inside, but there is limited seating. It looks like there is another restaurant/bar on the right and the place smelled like fried fish on a Sunday.
