We ate here on a Saturday recently (I thought I had posted a review!, lost somewhere) and were pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is a fresher, local Applebee's. The server was very friendly. The restaurant was preparing for a large group, but did not leave us as an afterthought. Well done! We had wings to start which were very good. Decided to try this place out for the first time on a Friday after work. Arrived at 6:05, no people waiting but busy , bar area full and about 90% of the tables. Prob seated by 6:10. Waitress was prompt. We took our time ordering drink and perusing the menu. I'd say we ordered no later than 6:30 - Texas Burger and Blackened Chicken Penne Pasta w added shrimp and substituted linguine. Food arrived at our table at 7:05. This is the basis for 4 stars vs 5 along with the Pasta dish drowning in liquid. Come here on a whim for lunch heading to another store. Honestly wasn't expecting much - but was pleasantly surprised! Service was great! (I think our server was Lexi) We had the calamari to start and it was some of the best we've had. I had the oyster po'boy and my boyfriend had the hangover burger. Both were fantastic. Stopped in after hearing how good they are. Definitely not on this night!! Meatballs and Mozzarella Sticks for our app. Mozzarella Sticks were very good, unfortunately the meatballs were cold in the middle. Patty Melt was not made correctly, and when we asked for mushrooms on one of our burgers, please use mushroom slices! Each and every small mushroom rolled right off the burger when trying to eat it. read more

Friendly staff, clean restaurant, I ordered the meatball appetizer and a side salad, and a grilled chicken Alfredo pasta, the meatballs and salad were good, the pasta and garlic bread tasted spoiled, it was hard to pinpoint the problem, we think it was spoiled butter because both the garlic bread and Alfredo sauce had the same taste. We tried this place because my friend recommended it. We didn't know it was even there before that. It was well worth the ride. The traditional decor is welcoming and divided to provide a sense of intimacy. We especially liked how the restaurant area is separated from the bar by a dividing wall. Our waiter was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We tried the calamari with marinara sauce. It was very good. Personally, I like my marinara a little more seasoned, but it was definitely respectable. My husband had a hangover burger that was excellent. The burger was done to order and cooked perfectly. I had the shrimp po-boy. The fried shrimp were tender and juicy, the toasted bun was just right; and the spicy sauce was balanced well by the pickles. The fries were uniquely cut and worth the calories. This is a nice spot! I met an old friend here for an early dinner. We were greeted at the door by the hostess and sat at a table. Being that we both wanted to see the door, we quickly asked to be moved to another table. No problem. We spent so much time catching up. We kept forgetting to look at the menu so the server kept coming back asking if we were ready, but she was patient and told us to take our time which we did. We both ordered the crabcake dish. I got sauteed mushrooms and macaroni and cheese on the side. My friend got coleslaw and green beans. The crab cake was pretty good and I always love mushrooms, but they looked like they were whole button mushrooms from a can. They were still pretty good though. Oh yeah, for an appetizer I got the crab egg rolls. They were good, they were hot and crunchy and I was hungry so they hit the spot! I also had an IPA on draft. It was tasty! I can't remember the name but I'm pretty sure it was local. AND, to top it off, I took some cheesecake home. I just finished it and it was good! My mother already left a review. I wanted to add about my experience with my meal I ordered the Ribeye steak supposedly 10 oz. Med. rare and they brought it out looked ok but when I cut into it I smelled an off smell about it and I shook it off and dismiss it, then ate a piece.... it was bad... and I told the waiter he said he'll get the cooks attention and said they would cut another fresh piece from another meat roast ( I'm guessing here) and brought that piece out.... it was much smaller then the first but looked and tasted better. I still think they should have taken this off the bill for the almost food poison me.. this wasn't a cheap dinner. We thought we'd give this place a try. *near bjs convenient i guess. Hubby found this on Google as we were traveling. Cute little diner style place. Typical American do we fair with a hint of Maryland, ie crab dishes, sprinkled in. Service was great. Food was delicious and quick. Nice sit down meal but without the long restaurant waits. Kids Mac and cheese was amazing and enough for two servings. Really enjoyed my visit to Abingdon Grill. My daughter saw it one day and put it in her memory to go back. I offered a suggested place for dinner - she countered with the Grill - good choice. Nice family restaurant as mentioned before off the beaten path. I had the fish and chips which were fried to perfection. The mac and cheese for my granddaughter was also good too. Abingdon's Hidden Gem! If you haven't been here, you have no idea what you're missing! A group of 15 to 20 of us women have been going to the grill on Fridays for the last three months. Each week we are trying new menu selections. They are fantastic! We are lucky enough to have Becca as our server. She is consistently pleasant, accommodating, and never forgets an item! The restaurant is family, friendly, and their kids menu is a delight. Parking is abundant and spacious. Their chef is accommodating, from "no lettuce on mine please", to can you give me a different side. I have also returned on other evenings for their dinner menu, and I've never been disappointed. Steaks and fish or grilled to perfection! If you haven't been here, you are really missing out. I don't know of anybody who doesn't know where the BJ's is in Abingdon. But just before you get to BJ's, you've got a restaurant that can't be beat. Kudos to Mr. D, the owner, for giving Abington and the Bel-Air area, a fantastic place to eat and enjoy a meal. P. S. My hubby & I were out & about today and decided to stop in for a late lunch based on the Facebook reviews & recommendations. That was a mistake. Let's start with the calamari app. The crust was decent but unnecessarily heavy yet crispy coating. But that wasn't the worst part! It was so tough dry & hard you couldn't even bite it with your teeth, chewing forever was worst. I never had calamari that you had to use a steak knife to cut it, it was beyond overcooked rubber, it was fiberous dry & hard. Old calamari plus over cooked!!! Second, bacon wrapped shrimp with crabcake egg roll. Maybe the cook, not chef, only know one temp, too hot. Again, overcooked hard rubber. High temps required to make bacon crispy are often too high for delicate shrimp. The bacon was hard almost burnt and crispy which was unnecessary when wrapped around shrimp. There were six large shrimps that look like gulf shrimp. Both the calamari and these bacon wrapped shrimp were overly salty too. The egg roll was good but overpowered by the sweet hot sauce. I like spicy and hot but even for me it took away from the taste of the food. It would have been much better if they back down on the heat a bit. My husband played it safe and ordered the hangover Burger which he said was good but he ordered a medium and it came out well. Our server was nice, eager and attentive until I asked how was everything. We are usually totally non-confrontational about food but our expectations were a little bit peaked per the recommendations so I did mention the calamari to him. He asked how everything was but didn't know what to do with a negative response. Why ask then? Our expectations are not outrageous we just want a decent meal. Needless to say, like many establishments lately we will not be going back. It wasn't worth it. read more

First time here for me and have heard many very good reviews from others. Unfortunately for me, not so good. The $10 peach sangria tasted like peach juice that was poured from a can with some ice. Absolutely no hint of any alcohol in it. Chesapeake chicken sandwich - chicken was very, very thin and dry. Portion of frozen fries, not real potatoes, just ok. To pay about $34 for this it would have been better to have gone to Chick-Fil-A at half the price and a better meal. Usually I speak up, but was with a group and did not want to make a fuss as the person we were celebrating picked this place and would have been very upset so I just let it go. read more

We were very pleasantly surprised with this place. We've passed it many times but have never gone in. Popped in early on a Friday evening and had great service and the food was really good. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I had a strip because I'd been craving steak all week. A little fattier than I would've chosen for myself, but it was very good. I like a rare burger - don't get me wrong, but this thing was still moo'ing. 50 minute wait for food - no presence at the host stand - servers were frantic all night. The French Dip came as a French...bc there was no dip. Tried this place bc I've heard a few good reviews, but not today. Flavor of the sandwich was good, but they needed a leader in the kitchen and in the dining room - but there was none to be found. Would have much preferred Riverside Pub-only five minutes away and always on point with service. Will take a desperate night for me to return. read more

Despite the quick service, we were specifically interested and enjoyed the vegetable of the day! It consisted of carrots bathed in a substance that ended up being quite delicious! I enjoyed how the carrots were perfectly sitting in our liquid! The steak upheld its reputation presenting itself om a beatiful white plate, and citrus filled oranges. What a combo!
