I came with low expectations due to some reviews and as someone who has had good teas. But all five teas I had was right on in terms of what they are - the taste, the finish, and the color. I was literally in tea heaven!! I love tea and this was on my list when planning this trip. We didn't go on the tour, instead we went to the tea room and sampled the teas they had available. The sampling is $4.50 and refillable during your entire stay. The tea is hot and all were good. They have both green and black. The only one that was not to my liking was the Souchong due to the smokiness of the tea. It literally was like drinking a campfire. The tea room gift shop is AMAZING. SO MANY tea pots and cups and teas. I had such a a hard time making decisions. We were visiting Boston with our small dog and had this attraction on our list. We called ahead, and a wonderful staff member assisted us with answering our questions since we had our dog with us and needed to plan accordingly. We learned that we did not need to do the museum tour or pay admission to solely enjoy Abigail's Tea Room, which was our preference on this visit. We were traveling by car and in need of parking, and Abigail's Tea Room's website provided detailed information and recommended parking garages nearby as well as information for validated parking for visitors. The tid-bit of information that we were most thrilled to receive was that Abigail's Tea Room has an outdoor back patio that is dog friendly to well-mannered, leashed dogs, with permission. We're very grateful they allowed our dog to join us on this lovely visit! The tea room is charming and offers a variety of historical teas and a small menu of food items. It's cafe style where you order and pay at the counter and collect your items when ready. We enjoyed their 5 historical teas sampling, an order of their cranberry orange scone, and a chicken salad sandwich, all of which were delicious. Loved the view from their back patio/deck, too. I came here with a friend from out of town on our visit to Boston. Parking nearby seems challenging; I'd recommend taking the free Silver Line Bus and walking about 8 minutes from the Courthouse stop. You do not require a reservation or a ticket to go to the Tea Room and you can get into the gift shop from the museum on your way to the Tea Room. We got the bottomless tea (without a souvenir mug) for approx $5. There were 5 types of tea to try (2 green, 3 black) and these are the exact - modern attempts at an exact teas that colonists drank during the colonial - revolutionary war era. Each tea includes a small info card about where it originated from and historical context about individuals who drank this tea. You are able to sample the 5 teas to find your favorite (mine was the strongest black tea that had a unique smokey scent and flavor!). They have a liquid tea dump if you really don't like a tea and are encouraged to just dump and move on to another tea. I recommend sampling a bit of each tea until you find the one you like the most and just getting a full cup of that. Overall 5/5 on the tea tasting for the price and what a unique historic experience! Pumpkin muffin 5/5, not overalls sweet, reminded me of a less sweet version of the pumpkin bread from Starbucks. Soft and fresh. There are employees dressed up in colonial attire who can answer historic questions you have. This overlooks the Tea Party Boat and the water which is very nice and a lovely way to spend some time. read more

Brief Summary: - Located on a bridge (so cool!) - The ticket booth is for the tour of the Boston Tea Party - Entrance to the building first leads to the gift store - Further on the left, there is the way to the snacks and tea tasting - Recommend the tea tasting with a mug This museum is located on the middle of one of the bridges in Boston, and it's close to the pier. While it is on the water, it is not on a ship; it's mostly a building propped up alongside the bridge, so no motion sickness or shaking about. The entrance was tricky to figure out, especially if there is a flock of students lining up in front to buy tickets. We were focused on eating and drinking tea, so we slithered through the crowd and entered from the two double doors. Inside, we are welcomed by stuffs related to tea: teapots, tea cups, tea bags and tea leaves, Boston Tea Party historical replica items, and so on. We bought some tea bags after the visit. Leading into the back on the left hand side, there is a doorway that leads to a narrow suspended bridge to the backside of another building. Once inside this building, this is Abigail's Tea Room. This vast building has dozen of tables to sit down, and on the other side of the building, separated by a wall, there is the counter to buy snacks and drinks. We went up and chose the tea tasting, and the staff handed us a mug. Inside the seating area, there were 5 tea dispensers of different tea leaves and temperatures. The hottest one was on the rightmost side and it grew to "easy to drink" temperature on the left. This is intentional as the staff explained, however, all of them were warm to hot. The easiest to drink, or the tea that was most familiar in taste to me was the two teas on the left. They were light and smooth tongue feel. The middle one was alright and then the two on the right, those tasted very roasted. I would associate this one as tree bark -- but that doesn't sound very good does it? I'll say it was an acquired taste. I loved how this tea tasting was like an 'all you can drink' as long as you have the mug in hand. We were able to relax after walking for blocks in town, so this was a comfortable moment. Since we sat near the windows, we were able to witness a group of students attending the Boston Tea Party tour on ship anchored beside the building we were at. It's impossible to hear what the tour guide was saying, but it looked like an informative and interactive tour experience. An additional side note, we went our ways for another walk around Boston and returned back here to try more of their tea. On the second visit, we tried the iced tea. This, however, didn't have the robust tea flavor as the tea tasting dispensers, so I would suggest sticking with the hot teas. read more

Absolute five stars all the way! What a fun thing to do after attending one of the tea party tours! I believe you don't even need to do a tour to come upstairs and have some snacks and tea. But, since I did do the tour on a recommendation from a local friend, and I love tea, I wasn't skipping the chance to do a tasting of the 5 colonial tea types thrown into the Boston harbor on 16 December, 1773. When you come upstairs it smells wonderful - they're making fresh cookies and scones for sale and you can certainly smell them! It's very cheap to do a tasting at around $5 for unlimited tea and $8.95 to include a cute little souvenir mug. They have a nice bathroom and the seating area is large and neat with walls of windows overlooking the bay and free wifi. I sat here for about an hour charging my phone, drinking warm tea, warming up, and going through photos from the day's adventures. Loved it! The teas are all wonderful and delicious with some green teas, black teas and others. I'm sure everyone can find one they love and creamer and sugar is available as well. read more

There were 2 green teas: Singlo and Young Hyson Green Tea. The Bohea is similar to Lipton Tea. Congou was a little heavier. Then Souchong was from Fujian province, where my family is from. This place was SO fun! One of the highlights of my trip! Whoever thought this up is a genius. Admission to the museum isn't required. You walk into the tearoom through the gift shop. I'm not sure how busy this place gets overall as I went on an off day Jan 3. $3.99 for tea tasting, unlimited, is a definite must after doing the re-enactment/tour. Look, it's not about the tea. It's not about the food. I tried every tea and none of them were good. I love tea. One was honestly so gross, I started choking. Not one staff member even blinked. They were like "the smoky one, yeah?" And in between gasping I was like "yeah." My chowder was not great. But this was the highlight of my trip. I have never laughed so hard. A group of us came yesterday for the Boston tea party tour and has free time before our tour so decided to stop in. The second you walked up you can smell the fresh baked pastries and goodies. The cashier was so nice and personable. I did not get many pictures but when you order a tea they give you a to go cup and you can choose between light to darkest tea. I am happy to see that the Tea Room has re-opened now. Passing by the Tea Room every time I walked on Congress Street Bridge, the view of the Museum was stunning. On occasion, I saw the statue of Samuel Adams in front of the Tea Room had a mask on. I hope we all can take off the masks soon. I've been here twice, but I finally decided to do the tea tasting. It's a cute little cafe that over looks the Bay Area and sandwiched between the two model ships. You'll be ordering at the counter and then go get your stuff. Make sure to specify that you want to stay for the tea tasting or whatever you are ordering if you are staying. The lady automatically thought we wanted it to go, so started packing everything we ordered. When we told her it's to stay, she got annoyed and start unpacking and throwing our stuff on a plate. It was kind of a funny fit. There are people who are in costume walking around talking to people. They are very educated on what happened during the Boston tea party, and friendly. The only reason why I knew this is that they talked to everyone except for Asians. Kind of weird, but I guess they don't want the language barrier.
