I love the food. But when i ordered 3 burritos (all the same) it seemed i only got 2, spread thin between the 3. The normally hefty burritos seemed thinner than the ones at tacobell! Sometimes the food is fantastic. Sometimes its not. Sometimes the beef tastes like shrimp (yuck!) Sometimes the burritos drip this heavenly juice. Sometimes the burritos are burnt beyond eating. Second time visiting here and it was better than the last! I loved the carne asada tacos last time, but this time we had various things. The rolled tacos were meh, not much flavor to them, but everything else was AMAZING! Carne asada chips were so good l had to force myself out of eating them all, since they were my husband's order. This place is phenomenal. I love going here all the time despite it's unpredictable affects on my digestive system. I almost only ever get the burritos because those things are MASSIVE and CHEAP and oh so DELICIOUS!!! And let me tell ya, there's nothing like Aibertos at 2am. That's the stuff dreams are made of. Recently, they done a lot of remodeling so it doesn't look sketch AF anymore which has stolen some of the charm. Also, more people are going there now. This is what I do: I order the Camarones a la Diabla. I go find a nice place to park (if I'm out and about) or head back down the street to my house. I open the flour tortilla and red hot sauce. Then I fill the tortilla with the delicious refried beans, lettuce, and hot sauce. Alternating between bites of the rice and shrimp and my newly made burrito, I go to my happy place. I lived in Mexico for the first 16 years of my life. Aiberto's is very true to the real mexican taste. Their refried beans and carnitas are legit (I wonder if some other reviewers have never had frijoles refritos before? ). I love that they serve my favorite dish, sopes. Another big plus is that they serve aguas frescas!! I missed those. The prices are super affordable. The only minus for me is that they don't seem to use any mexican cheeses like cotija or fresco; they use shredded cheese (probably a mix of cheddar and others). Two separate trips here, both outstanding. First up, the Pollo a la Diabla burrito ($3.99): spicy grilled chicken pieces, guacamole, onions, tomatoes, and cilantro in a large flour tortilla. The best part: they can customize the spice a bit more on the burrito (they upped the heat for me). Whoa wait, less than $4 for a fat burrito? Score! I virtually blacked out from sheer foodie bliss. The moist chicken zapped a lightning bolt of flavor in my mouth. I've had a lot of burritos in my life, and I'm dead serious when I say I cannot recall having a better one. Combined with the onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and guacamole, this burrito was not only beautiful to look at, but I almost felt guilty for eating it -- almost. A perfectly steamed flour tortilla rounded out this epic experience. There was a little heat, but it's not overpowering. The burrito paired extremely well with Aiberto's spiciest hot sauce. The sauce possessed a smoky flavor that added even more flavor dimension. This bad boy had some weight and girth on it! I still coulda eaten more than one of these. *looks down* (Shut up, stomach...no vote for you!) I told the man running the register that I enjoy spicy food, so he let me sample a whole jalapeno with salt and a lime wedge. The pepper may have also been slightly blistered on the flattop or over direct heat. I coulda eaten ten more of those. Crunchy, with a little heat. The salt balanced the sour citrus lime flavors; the latter also proved refreshing on the palate. Combination plates (entree with rice and beans) generally run from $6 to $7.50. The man at the counter highly recommended the Oregon burrito ($3.99) and the Lengua burrito ($4.30). People on Yelp rave about the carne asada. But seriously, you can't go wrong here...look at those menu prices! ____________________ Two weeks later, I went back to Aiberto's to try the breakfast menu. All breakfast burritos are $3.99, and there are daily breakfast burrito specials for $2.99. Dang. Me: "So what's your most popular breakfast burrito?" Owner: "Bacon. Bacon is the most popular." Me: "Then I'll have one of those!" Come on, shame on me. Bacon is unofficially meat crack. This portly burrito had diced bacon, french-fry strip potatoes, scrambled eggs, and melted shredded cheese. Everything was just perfectly incorporated and seasoned. Especially when paired with the same smoky hot sauce I had with my diabla burrito, all I needed was a napkin and a few minutes to polish the meal off. Simple seasoning and extremely satisfying, a great post-workout meal! Hooray for proteins, fats, and carbs! Heck, I braved the icy roads just to get to this place. And I'd do it again to get more. Top-notch service on both visits. Oh, did I mention that Aiberto's is open 24 hours? And I don't live too far away. My stomach may hate me for being a mass glutton. Sorry, stomach, I don't care. This may be the place that finally gets me fat. Aiberto's is touted as "San Diego's Best." No, I'm not from there, but I'm still inclined to agree. Love it. Was staying in Salem for one night and had Alberto's twice. When I pulled up to the parking lot, I couldn't even hear myself think because there were men standing outside playing large brass instruments, strumming the guitar, and singing. Amazing. Got inside and ordered a the chicken taco combo platter with rice and beans to go. FYI the tacos are hard shell. Got them back to the hotel and the boyfriend and I devoured them. Probably the place I ate at the most when I was in Salem! Went at least once a week when I went to Chemeketa Community College. Normally visit when I come back too. The food is delicious, massive and cheap! Getting hungry just thinking about it. Favorite go-to is an Oregon or California Burrito Combo. You can get a massive burrito, beans and rice with a drink for like 6 bucks. It's not fancy in the slightest, but I love it. A lovely stroll down memory lane, this place must have some connection to the "Berto's" restaurants in San Diego that I so happily patronized as a carefree college student (with a much higher metabolism than today, alas). At incredibly low prices, Aiberto's offers delicious, authentic Cali-Mex dishes including the best freakin' carnitas I've ever come across; lick the plate clean carne asada,yummy refritos (you can get them sans lard, but why would you bother?), fresh tortillas, homemade salsas...I could go on and on. Everything we had was tasty, freshly prepared and authentic. Even better, the three of us stuffed ourselves silly for about $13. Stopped here on a return trip from Silver Falls due to previous reviews. Definitely the best Mexican food I have had since moving to Oregon. The two dinner specials for $9 really cannot be beat. Regardless of the price, the food was plentiful and extremely satisfying. If I lived closer, I most certainly would eat here everyday; it was that good. I ordered the fajitas plate, which came covered in everything needed to fill the corn or flour (your choice) tortillas that were provided. The refried beans were especially good as well. There is a separate station with a wide variety of different sauces that you can take from as much as you wish. The decor leaves something to be desired, but this in no way detracts from the food that is served. I will be eating here again, even if I have no other reason to go to Salem. read more

One of my favorite places to eat! Very affordable and delicious. My fiancé and I usually take advantage of their 2 combo plate special for $10. Such a great deal, especially when were on a budget. Another favorite is the carne asada fries, another great value for the money. Only 5.99 and my fiancé, my daughter, and I can share one plate and we all get stuffed. The only downfall is the building... It could use some remodeling or something. But I don't really mind because the food is great! I love this place! read more

Don't waste your time here. We were driving down I-5 and saw the 3 1/2 star reviews but it's just not worth waiting over 40 minutes for 2 burritos. We ended up asking for a refund after 40 minutes. I last visited in 2004, after a sort of spur-of-the-moment drive from San Francisco to Salem, Oregon. If you've never made that trip before, beware; it's far! And by far, I mean far. Far, far--wait, I already did that. Sorry. So I've been wanting to review this place since I joined Yelp in 2008, but I couldn't remember what it was called, and originally, the pictures on its Yelp listing weren't very helpful.* But then I asked my friend Kathy, who used to live in Salem, what the place was called, and she said she didn't remember except that she thought its name was missing an important consonant. I did the Yelp research, and there it was: Aibertos. Not Alberto's or even Albertos, but Aibertos. And you want to know why it's called Aibertos? So do I, but I don't know, so I'm going to make up this apocryphal story: When the people who wanted to turn a former Taco Bell (the old-school little-mission-with-the-bell kind) into a taqueria, they ordered a sign for their new business, Alberto's. Except that each character cost them money, so they omitted the apostrophe to save money. And when the sign came back, well, the sign makers had misspelled Albertos. Alberto was furious and demanded a new sign be made, but the sign company offered the sign to him for half price if he would take it misspelled, and that, my friends, is the true origin of Aibertos's name. It's so cheap. I think there are non-side orders on the menu that cost less than $1. *Yelp picture-takers, please pay more attention to what places look like and less attention to what the food looks like. When I look at restaurant listings, I don't want to see 734 different pictures of the pad Thai; I want to see what the restaurant looks like inside and out so that either I can determine whether I've been there before or see how swanky or non-swanky it is because I may be coming alone or with guests. Pictures of food are worthless. Unless they're on Chinese-food menu boards. Then they're priceless. read more

Perhaps we tried Albertos on an off day, but I don't think so, because there are a few earlier reviews that call the many the glowing reviews into question. On the basis of those glowing reviews and repeated references to low prices, Lana and I decided to try it. We found that the prices are very low and the quality of the food is very poor. How low are the prices? Both of us had twice as much as we could eat, plus non-alcoholic drinks, for less than twelve dollars. The up-front price alone made me uncomfortable: can anyone deliver good food for that price? Our experience suggests that Albertos cannot. The food made me more uncomfortable than the price. I'll begin with the drinks. I ordered an iced tea. It was serve-yourself, from a container marked "Lipton's," which is never a good sign. However, it was cold and dark, suggesting a strong, tannic brew. In fact, it was tasteless. Lana ordered tamarind juice and rather liked it. I ordered the chicken diabla burrito, which came with frijoles and rice, plus a side of guacamole. The frijoles and the guacamole were both rather tasteless and seemed to have come out of a blender, because they were the consistency of thick (in the case of the beans, congealed) liquids. However, as blending seems unlikely -- far too much work for the price, and why would anyone do that, for any price? -- they probably were processed mechanically and came out of a can. In any case, they were badly over-processed. Like the other sides, the rice was rather tasteless and rather dry as well, perhaps suffering from too much time on a steam table. Only the burrito had a distinct taste. The amount of spice was about right, but the taste was of onion. Lots of onion, diced fine, into 1/8-inch cubes. It was so fine and so consistent that I think it, too, was mechanically processed and came out of a can. I cannot imagine why anyone would take the time to dice onions that fine by hand. Likewise the chicken: tiny cubes of chicken, ranging from 1/8- to 1/4-inch, with the uniformity again suggesting mechanical processing. Well, whatever the processing, I did not like the taste of the burrito at all, and I could not rid myself of it until I arrived home, washed out my mouth and brushed my teeth. Lana ordered a carnitas plate. The pork was not diced. It came in moist chunks that shredded easily. Very normal looking and it tasted like pork. Greasy pork. Half a pound of it. In addition to rice and beans, Lana's plate also included a side of salad. Like the other sides, it had very little taste. read more

I love this place and I dream about it day and night and I really wish I was joking. My favorite thing to get is the Carne Asada Fries with a Pina (pineapple) drink. I could never finish a whole one because their portions are SUPER generous!! Plus, you shouldn't be eating good food alone so I share with my boyfriend and we end up being full off on one item. The Oregon burrito is also tasty. I also like how they have their salsas and veggies arranged so you can pick the ones you like. Great food. Really great service. Super friendly. Reasonably priced! I rate taqerias by the Carne Asada tacos. Albertino's were mediocre at best. The meat was dry because it sat on the flat top in a huge pile for god knows how long waiting for the next gut-bomb burrito order. The tortillas themselves we not steamed or heated in oil they were put on the flat top for a moment and they tasted raw. The guacamole was thin and tasted of rotten avocados. The cilantro and onions were dry as well. On the crispy tacos, the refried beans were too salty, though they did have good bean flavor and decent spice of cumin and coriander which gives it a nice earthy quality. The slow cooked shredded chicken is very good but there was not much on the tacos. Shredded iceberg lettuce and cheddar cheese should have no place on a taco either. The poor lady at the counter was taking orders from the drive through and walk-in customers as well as expediting the orders to the drive-up window and to the walk-in customers. As others have stated, the restaurant is not clean nor is it well maintained. I can't imagine that a restaurant that cuts corners on cleanliness and maintenance is not cutting corners elsewhere like in food safety. read more

Don't expect spotless interior nor fancy silverware at this place. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: a good, fast, inexpensive Mexican casual dining joint. The food comes fast, and they call you up when your order is ready. The soft drinks are fountain style, an d you can refill as much as you like while you're dining. Some drinks like horchata and Tamarindo are served behind the counter, so there are no free refills for those. The salsa picante is at the counter and you serve yourself in little cups to take to your table. There is no bathroom, so wash your hands and do your duty right before you get there. You'll find all the usual authentic Mexican fare such as tacos, massive burritos, enchiladas, horchata, Tamarindo juice, etc. It even has some specialties that work work really well together. I had the Oregon burrito and it was delicious. A steak burrito with cilantro, rice, and potatoes, it really hit the spot after a long day. The prices are very good, and my burrito was only $3.99 (when you see the size and amount of meat they give you, you'll be blown away). They offer a $1 value menu that is a great deal: you can get a fish Taco, mini Taco, or bean and cheese burrito for $1. Can't beat that! Overall, is a great place to eat Mexican. They don't get 5 starts because it is not the cleanest restaurant and the restroom is outside around the back, but they are a great option if you are in the area and are hungry. I would say that the first time I went there my meal (a chicken, rice, veggie bowl) was very good and for that reason I give it 2 stars. Also the staff was very nice and a polite, a good attitude is a plus. Today my friend and I ordered the same meals as previously ordered and received a tray I would classify in the greasy spoon division. My friend asked for "light potatoes" and received an all potato burrito sprinkled with cheese and scarce egg and bacon. My meal this time was 90% rice with chicken that had been deep fried with burnt pieces of tortillas and chips left over from previously fried food. When I go somewhere and ask about how something is prepared and ask for it to have less potatoes or am told it is "not fried" I am irritated to say the least about them wasting not only my money, but my time as well. read more

Horrible customer service. Just got a carne asada plate here and it came out bland and stone cold. Barely even touched the plate asked for a new one and she told me she was going to reheat it.............. seriously? Reheat it in a microwave Wtf!!! I ask for a different entree and they said im going to need to repay the whole entire price for the meal!!! So i told them to toss it and they did no hesitation. Excellent service. They told me that they would have to toss it out and would have to charge me a whole new price!! So let's recap..... cold entree and bland was given a choice to either toss it or microwave it. Would not take the difference in the cost to get a different entree........ people werent kidding about how the workers here dont care about customer service. They say they are an authentic restaurant i guess they reheat everything in mexico with a microwave. Or the microwave would need to say made in mexico. I am not biased with anything here. I love this place. A lot. Like, I go there way too often a lot. Like, when I go I usually buy two burritos because I know I'll want the other one later, and hey, they're only 4 bucks each. They have great food! I went around the menu a bit but now I almost always get my favorite: the chicken fajita burrito. It does sometimes take a while to get your food, whether or not you go inside or in the drive through. 70% of the time it's fewer than 5 minutes, but sometimes it's like 15 minutes, either waiting in the lobby or in the drive-through. read more

Ordered the Veg. Burrito. and when I got it, the burrito wasn't even wrapped properly. Was driving and trying to eat it and it fell apart. Only got a few bites. Also, the beans were completely dry. The cooks do not wear gloves which is totally disgusting.The girl at the counter had a bad attitude and I guess she assumed I was going to tip which I did not. Ok first of all before you get too excited about the 4 stars keep in mind this is 4 stars for Salem...for what that's worth. Overall this place was a pretty good taco shop - about on par with the world famous Filibertos! The crunchy tacos were good - good seasoned beef (although I prefer ground beef tacos) and fresh crispy shells. The enchiladas...weren't quite what I was expecting which is usually an enchilada covered with melted cheese. In fact come to think of it....I'm guessing they don't have a way to melt cheese here because I didn't see melted cheese on anything. But nevertheless the enchilada was pretty good in it's own way. I also had some guacamole and chips. The guac didn't seem very fresh and chunky. It was more soupy and runny. But surprisingly enough it was pretty good. So overall not a bad place to go to get a cheap taco if you're in Salem. But doesn't rank on my list of Mexican places you HAVE to try. read more

My suggestion for a good burrito in Salem is drive over to Salvador's Bakery on Silverton RD they have an excellent chicken burrito. I will never return to this place. Yuck! read more

I ordered chicken tamales and when I was eating it, instead of chicken there was peas and potatoes, no chicken! When I called the restaurant the lady on the phone was arguing with me about what they put in their tamales. Finally, someone else on the other end explained to her they changed the recipe. Anyway, to make this up they told me to come back when I can and they will replace them free of charge with beef tamales. I picked up my beef tamales and I got beef which was good, but they put a top layer of potatoes in it which I don't like at all and as I ate half way through the tamale all the filling was gone and I was eating just masa. I felt ripped off! and the sauce was way too salty, I couldn't wait to chug water. I've decided to no longer go here anymore, the food no longer taste good. read more

I don't even know what that green liquid was.
