I only recommend Dan Pedro son Portland Road. It's clean. It's fast. It's good. I generally have the Menudo I'd like for them to add more harmony to mine and more meat but overall, I generally will have the half of my bowl there and take the rest home for later. read more

Food was decent, nothing special. But service was horrible, multiple employees behind the counter at least four, it took them almost 5 minutes to stop talking to acknowledge me and take my order. Once I placed my order for me and my husband, we sat down approximately 18 to 20 minutes later they brought me my food, but not my husbands, his food arrived approximately 10 minutes later, which before that they had to ask me several times if the plate they were holding was my husband's order. on top of that I used a debit card and the following day did a pick up order using a debit card, my card was compromised, so if you plan on buying here pay in cash. They have a fairly large menu, all kinds of stuff from Mexican, Tex-Mex, to American foods (breakfast thru dinner). I had a wet veggie burrito and my husband had a cheese burger. He was pleasantly surprised and he also loves his fries. Just enough salt and oil. I was so stuffed I had to take the rest home. We really want to eat here again. It's just a matter of time. I haven't been to this place in like 3 years, when I first moved to Salem, and back then it was alright at best. So I tried it again to see if there was any difference besides a physical remodeling. Unfortunately, there was none. I went in with my brother, he ordered the Carne Asada Fries, to which he said tasted like it had been microwaved. Now I ordered Pollo A La Crema, my brothers food came out first since it's just fries with the fixings, and I waited for my dish to come out. 5 minutes passed, then 10, and 15. I went up at around the 10 minute mark and asked about my dish, since we were just about the last ones left. Turns out the ticket didn't print out my dish on their side, to which I call bs because I'm pretty sure the lady who took my order didn't put it in properly. Then I waited for another couple minutes for them to prepare my order. I ended up taking it to go since at this point I didn't even want to stay in the establishment. I should say that my order comes with the dish itself, a side salad, and a couple of tortillas, when they gave me the order, I only left with the dish itself. And after all that weight it wasn't even good, tasted like unseasoned boiled chicken with sauce dumped on top of it, absolutely disappointing. read more

Just tried the breakfast burritos here for the first time. They are fabulous! Nicely layers and a generous amount of cheese! The hot sauce bar has a really good hot salsa that I enjoyed. My fiancé didn't care for the pancakes but I thought they were delicious. They were a little too sweet for her liking. Great experience. Great breakfast burritos. The awesome thing about Salem is the amount of Mexican restaurants. You never have to go far for a good plate of nachos or a dank burrito. I recently discovered this place down the road from where I live. From the outside it looks a little rundown and questionable, but it's really a great place. It is awesome. The food is so affordable, there are such good portions, the food it self is hella bomb. . It's really makes for a cheap date night or place to get a quick nacho fix. read more

The bf and I loaded our van full of supplies and children for a day of berry picking and mini road tripping and stopped here to lunch on the way out of Salem. We got two tacos de lengua, two pescado, and some pancakes for our non-taco eating kids. Service was very friendly, which I appreciate more and more these days in this age of Whattayawant. Salsa bar was quite small but it had the essentials. The OCD voice in my head kept urging me to run and get fresh condiments and utensils and to do a quick wipe from top to bottom, maybe take the whole thing apart to soak in Clorox, rinse with hot water, reassemble and fill up again and quickly sweep and mop the floors then wipe the tabletops...ooh the things I'd accomplish with my cleaning tools and an hour in here! But I silenced her and put my trembling hands on the counter, then chose just one salsa and left the rest. The tacos de lengua were better than the Don Pedros on Lancaster. It might be because the meat was cubed small and not large rectangular pieces which really grossed me out at the other place. The fish tacos were really good too. The pancakes had gobs of melting butter on them, which is a plus in my book, and must have been good as the mini lawyer and her parrot in the backseat ate all three in about ten minutes. Hub and I were on this side of town and decided to give this place a try after reading Chuck Bs review. The food was pretty good!! I had the burrito combo for $6.99 with rice and beans. The rice was very moist and tasty, as were the beans. My burrito was quite large and was made with the carne asada type of beef, seasoned well with onions and spices. It was topped with a delicious red sauce and runny mexican cheese and a huge dollup of mexican sour cream. Yum!! The service was good, the front counter lady very kind. The place was a bit dirty, as were some of the tables. The salsa bar was also a bit dirty with tongs inside of the salsas, some flies on the salsas, and some bins completely empty of salsas. My guess is they had a huge dinner rush and could not fill everything back up & clean everything up because when I left the lady was coming around with a bucket of soapy water and washing down the tables and booths. This use to be one of our favorites but after our last pick up order, not so much. Asada burritos, greasy meat and onion. That's it. No other ingredients in the burrito.. They messed up on our order and instead of Taquitos, we got tacos, again with the greasy steak and onion filling. And the worst part, when my son was half way through his greasy onion burrito when he pulled a hair out of his mouth. We moved here two years ago and was really hoping that they would fix the place up a bit, inside and out but nothing has changed yet and it's pretty rough. Seems to be going down hill. read more

This is my favorite place in Salem to get tacos. Specifically pastor tacos. The meat is juicy and full of flavor and they give you a large portion for a street taco. The salsa bar is amazing, the green sauce is my favorite. I like this location better than the location on Lancaster even though you get chips and salsa there. The salsa bar here is much better. Despite their tucked away Portland rd location you wouldn't think this is the spot that dishes out authentic Mexican food. Don Pedro's is the kind of place that doesn't brag or have ego about what they do... They simply and gracefully just do it... No BS here - the al pastor and carne asada tacos are hands down one of the best I've had... The burritos are always on point as well. In conclusion this place deserves more credit for what they're doing... They aren't necessarily breaking a mold with their food - but instead they're just keeping the traditions alive by serving quality authentic Mexican food. He didn't even enjoy his meal at all. My chilaquiles were not warm/hot at all. It definitely felt as if my plate had been sitting there for a while. My mother ordered a basic burrito. I ordered the fish tacos which were a little on the pricey side. When I got my tacos they had three small, burned, pieces of fish rather than a single big piece of fish. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Salem. The food is great, prices are very reasonable, and the people have always been so kind. I love the burritos, chimis, and quesadillas. It's also a good place to get plain old diner breakfast. One time I went there with a friend and he forgot his phone and left an unfinished burrito. We went back and they had the phone set aside for us, along with the left-over burrito that they wrapped up. This is one of the few places that doesn't have a tip line on their credit card receipts, but please tip them when you can. They deserve it! read more

And while everyone does like a couple eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and overly buttered toast I'd persuade you to go huevos rancheros. Or, while it's not on the menu, a bean and cheese burrito with onions and cilantro; $3.29 for a ripping good handful that'll power you through the afternoon. Hate to give spots bad reviews. Not a very good spot to eat tacos or burritos. Tortillas were stale, meat was over cooked and dry, salsa was not good at all, kept adding salt and lime to add flavor but that didn't even help. Overall the food had no flavor.
