Carnitas tacos
Christina S.

It's fast Mexican food...nothing spectacular but not bad, either. We ordered it to go and ate at home. We split everything so we sampled 4 different things. We started with the rolled tacos which were fairly bland. Next we had carnitas tacos. These were tastier! I would order them again. After the tacos we moved onto a carne asada burrito. It, too, was good. Lastly, chicken quesadilla. Unfortunately, this took us back to bland. Their verde salsa was good so get extras of those!

To go

My neighbor treated us to burritos while we were moving in and I never did get the name of the place where he got them from. Fast forward nearly a year and a half, and I finally found it by chance, hiding in plain sight. Located on Market street off Lancaster, Aibertos is a former Taco Bell across from Fred Meyers gas station and the bright yellow exterior is hard to miss. I imagine one of the reasons I've not tried thus far is the difficulty getting to it from the eastbound lane. Once I made it to the parking lot, I was challenged to find a website or a current menu online. I pulled into the drive thru lane behind another car, got up to the window and apparently missed the mic and sign where I was supposed to place my order. Needless to say, the experience was confusing and left much to be desired, but I was allowed to place an order and pull back around to wait for it. In no time, a woman came out and delivered my order to my car. I got home and found myself in burrito heaven! I'd ordered a chicken supreme burrito for the daughter and a spicy pork (Adobada) for myself with a side of guacamole and chips. I must admit, I'd never seen guac served ON chips and would have preferred them separately, but I'll know to ask next time. The homemade of sauces provided were a good variety and complimented everything perfectly. I understand they have some pretty mean breakfast burritos that I'll have to try next time. Minus one star for lack of online presence and confusing drive thru, otherwise, go get yourself a burrito as bug as your head!

Carne Asada fries

Decent Mexican food. Loved the carne asada fries, there was so much and loaded with perfection. My husband enjoyed the San Diego burrito and rolled tacos. I thought the rolled tacos were a bit dry. I also got carne asada and pollo asado tacos and I was not a fan. Meat seemed dry and there was too many toppings to meat ratio. Green salsa is by far the best there. Wish I lived closer to try more on their menu.

The oversized Oregon burrito

I was craving Mexican food and working out of town. I can't say much about the inside of this place because it has a drive through that I utilized both times I went other than the parking lot was packed both times Yeah both times. Yup, the food, It was so good I went twice. I ordered an Oregon burrito and some tacos expecting regular sized food. But no. That Oregon burrito was like 2 pounds and the size of my forearm. The tacos were overflowing. Definitely got my moneys worth and it was delicious. I also learned from some friends afterward there is an el jefe burrito that is like a man versus food challenge. You should definitely stop in here if you have the opportunity

i love you bae

This place is garbage now. The food and customer service is horrible. Save yourself some time, headache and go to Tacobell.

El Padrino Taqueria - Chicharrón tacos

El Padrino Taqueria

Yum! This little stand on the side of the road has a little seating area and no menu, just a sign…read more Ask the chef what meats he has, and order some tacos/quesadillas etc and you will not be disappointed. He is very kind. It is obvious he puts care into having his meat ready to cook and marinated and seasoned greatly. They are seasoned so well that we just added some lime and didn't even get to try the salsa. The tripa is perfectly crunchy and soft and has great flavor. The chicharrón is soft and so delicious. Will be back and they're open until like 5am!!!

As one of the more noticeable taquerias in Salem, I'm genuinely surprised there aren't more reviews…read morefor El Padrino. (#1) For years when this taco cart operated along Portland Road (#2) it was low on the radar but known in the community. Fast forward a few years, it's not quite a brick & mortar, but a space for patrons to sit inside to enjoy their food while everything is cooked outside on a cart. The format isn't for everyone (#3), but it's right up my alley. Beyond the colorful murals along the interior and spacious seating, this is still very much a dive. The place is open typically at night and the cloud of grease that permeates the room from all the fatty meats being grilled up. The ventilation is questionable and the seating (fold up chairs and plastic tables) is hardly glamorous. I don't know if I'd have it any other way. For some folks, seeing certain taco meats sitting in a pool of lard / fat / questionable liquid might be an eyesore but once the grilling begins it's a new ballgame. I enjoy almost all the meats, whether it's their famous al pastor sitting on a tromp with a pineapple on top, or their variety of cecina, carnitas, cabeza (cheek, mainly), barbacoa, and asada. There's no guarantee of what they'll have on any given night, so I'm usually good with whatever they have available. The charred grill is also the same place for their tortillas, which are also fried in said lard, and give off this smokiness that might not be everyone's cup of tea. I think their barbacoa, which is chivo (#4) style, is really the best thing they have. The meat is incredibly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It completely encapsulates their namesake in "ricos tacos" as one of their signature items. As always, it is cash only and speaking Spanish is a must. I'm not saying it's the best taqueria in the city, but for late night eats, it's certainly one of ones to beat. __________ (#1) Aka "The Godfather" (#2) Twas another time: https://www.yelp.com/biz/taqueria-el-padrino-salem (#3) Real talk: Most folks in Salem will likely never go to a place like this. That's really too bad. (#4) Goat, my amigos.
