We only signed up with ABF Security because our new home came pre-wired for their system. That turned out to be a very expensive mistake. Their contract is openly predatory: if you cancel for any reason, you immediately owe the full balance of the remaining three-year term. That alone should have told us everything we needed to know. I regret ignoring that red flag. The system itself was a complete failure. Sensors constantly fell off the walls, and the alarm would randomly go off in the middle of the night, waking our family. This happened repeatedly. We made service calls, and ABF was slow to respond. When they did send replacements, the new sensors fell off again within days. Nothing was ever actually fixed. Eventually, we stopped using the system entirely because it was unreliable and disruptive. We continued paying only because we were trapped by the contract. It's now obvious why ABF relies on these extreme cancellation penalties: if customers weren't locked in, no one would stay. The equipment is unreliable, the service is poor, and the support is painfully slow. The contract isn't a feature -- it's a crutch. If you're considering ABF Security, do yourself a favor and walk away. Read the contract carefully, learn from our mistake, and choose a company that competes on quality and service instead of locking people into years of payments for a system that doesn't work. read more

I have been with ABF for over 36 years--In my opinion they are fabulous. Jacob in the Customer Service Department worked diligently to make sure my system would keep me safe and in working condition. The service gentlemen (Brian) was extremely polite and courteous, and made sure I understood everything he was doing. System does not work with Cable service telephones so for the system to have been working a wireless caller would have had to be installed. Absolutely the worst service I've ever received I called to receive a quote for my religious organization I was transferred to Jana who told me they could not come and do a survey unless I was willing to be onsite at either 7am or 8am. Her exact words are "we start at 7". She did not have dates she had to hang up and call me back .Then Jana called me back and noticed I work for adt I explained this is not my home we are taking 3 quotes my company is one of them. She told me she needed to talk to her supervisor then I was informed I cannot get a quote unless I take pictures and walk site myself then send information to her. I was flabbergasted. If I work at Lowes can I not go to Home Depot? If I work at Walgreens can I not shop at cvs? I've never been treated so poorly by a company thank you for not coming. Do not recommend!! Tons of problems with instillation. Took 1 year and many service calls to get things in order. I leave messages for customer service and no one calls me back. They told me I had to buy new glass breaks because my brand new ones did not work with their system. I bought new ones from them and they will not return my original ones they removed. Value is approximately $700. They will not give me credit or return glass breaks. I have been asking for months and they just give me the run around! Very unhappy with this company. BUYER BEWARE!!! If I could give a zero to this security company I would! Our security system has not worked properly in six months. We have a brand new house with a brand new system that cost $15,000 and no one in their company will come out and fix it. We have had 4 to 5 technicians come out and they fix it for a day or two and then the system goes down again. The management team is not doing anything to help and their technicians always call out so your security system is down for weeks at a time. Why have a security system if it never works? Inappropriate billing practices make this service undesirable. You will be asked to pay 30 days in advance of a three month service period. You are already paying for the second and third month in advance, so why 30 days before the first month, too? Then they charge you for 30 days after your service ends! For what??? To be clear, in response to the response, ABF recently began sending out invoices, due upon receipt, at a much earlier date. For example, you may receive an invoice dated 6/2 for services 7/1 - 9/30, due upon receipt. Insurance premiums, which this isn't, are typically due before the first day of the coverage period, which makes total sense. Second, "many agreements" may refer to anything, and there may be good business reasons for paying an extra 30 days in those cases, like staffing or inventory adjustments. In this case, I don't see a sound business reason. Finally, any time someone says "it was in your contract" as their justification for something that seems patently unfair, disclosed or not, it's a good idea to look elsewhere. I was a customer for 11 years, so I may not remember every clause from when I signed up! However, right and appropriate is still right and appropriate. read more

Recently purchased home and they are refusing to give us the code to access the security system we own in our home UNLESS we are willing to pay for their service and not go with another company. The service is horrible! My system hasn't worked probably for months and they charge $75 for each visit to correct things that can easily be troubleshooted over the phone (like setting off the alarm to reset it). They are very rude and won't even return my voicemails to cancel the service, so I'm stuck paying monthly for a service I can no longer use (because the equipment is trash) because they won't allow me to cancel. I've been a customer for quite a few years, I left for 3 years to go with AT&T but decided to use a local company. They have always provided professional service and calling the office is always easy, the women who answer are professional and courteous. When the sales woman had my service installed 3 years ago, she assured me after the 36 months my monitoring would go back to $25/month she claimed she spoke with the owner who told her to lower the price since I was a customer for 10 years, and I came back to ABF. So I've been with them for 13 plus years. When I called in September 2021 they were rude and told me to look at my contract which I did and nothing on it about the monitoring charge being lowered. My fault, salesperson is no longer there nothing I can do. But there is, I'm going to switch companies and lower the monitoring charge. I paid 39.99/month for 36 months which was for the EQUIPMENT, why would I stay since I'm still paying $39.99? Read your contract before signing. read more

I have had ABF for almost 5 years now, and my father had them for many years before that. Any issue that has arisen, we have been immediately called and the issue has been resolved. Yes, at times it costs us more money, and yes I wish they would not charge for all service calls, but no one works for free, so I understand why it costs money for them to come out to fix a problem. When our alarm has gone off, they are right on it, finding out if it was an intrusion, if we needed help, or if we accidentally set off the alarm. I recommend them for a monitoring service. With all contracts, Read, and know what you are signing up for, regardless of what the sales person tells you. We have been very please with their service to date. read more

Have had their security system for 4 months now with no problems. Have the doorbell camera and another camera in the basement looking at the back slider. Be EXTREMELY wary of the sales people. The house we bought had an ABF system installed however we did not have the passcode. So we called ABF who informed us a sales person would have to come out before they'd reset the code. When the sales person came out, we were very hesitant about the system and didnt really feel we needed it. The sales person informed us that we could "try it out" and cancel if we didnt like it...and then proceeded to put us in a 5 year contract that is pretty air tight. The contract also states that it will auto renew unless you send a certified letter within 30 days of the termination point indicating you want to cancel. First, shame on us for not reading the contract. Had we read it thoroughly and understood the duration we would have sent the sales person promptly out the door. Second, shame on the sales person for the deceptive tactics. I didnt give a 1 star because ABF has been working with me to adjust the contract period down. We were able to get our sentence lowered to 2 years...and by all accounts, I think their system works and they're friendly folks to work with. I have had the worst customer experience with ABF Security. They were more interested in up selling the larger packages than they were in providing services that I really needed. They claimed that they worked with the Internet providers "all the time." Instead they were misinformed and I was very disappointed when Charter showed up and could not connect all of what ABF installed. And then I was told it was because I did not order the Data Package, like it was my fault. They never tried to understand my needs, and only argued when I spoke to them. Avoid this vendor. read more

I'm not sure where the past lower Yelp reviews are coming from, but from my recent experience with ABF, it is definitely different than what the older posts from 2019 and earlier suggest. I have been researching different security systems (including larger national security companies) and chose ABF because of their wonderful customer service. Many of my neighbors also have ABF, and now it's no surprise why. I have interacted multiple times with Tim (both in person and electronically), and he has been very informative, honest, patient, knowledgeable, and consistent. Tim did not try to just promote more expensive packages or have me install unnecessary features, and he was straightforward in highlighting both the pros and cons of different systems. The previous owners of the home who used ABF never bothered to show us how to use the security system, and Tim was more than happy to show us the lay of the land and provide valuable information to us in a clear, systematic manner. Information has been communicated in a very timely manner, and whenever I called the ABF office, the ladies who answered the phone were very courteous as well. When I had limited availability for an on-site visit, he was willing to be as flexible as possible in his own schedule to come very early or late as needed (even on the weekend!) to accommodate the customer. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!! We unfortunately dealt with this company because our builder recommended them. From the wiring of our cable/internet system to the alarm contract, it has been a disaster. Our sales person, Amanda Cullen sold us on the idea of having our cable boxes in a different room so we wouldn't see any wires, which in theory seemed like a good idea. Problem we have now is that the video and audio are way out of sync because the receiver is too far from the TV. Looking back, it was just a way for them to charge us for all the wiring needed to put the cable receiver in a different room. On top of that they wanted to charge us $750 to hang a TV over our fireplace. The alarm was even worse, we initially passed on the idea of an alarm, but then they came back and dramatically dropped the price. It was presented to us as a trial basis, in fact all the proposals said "recurring service". After 3 months in the home and only using the alarm 5 times we called to cancel, only to find out we were in a 3 year contract that my wife signed. Keep in mind both of our names were on the contract but they conveniently only sent it to my wife to sign. This was the first time I had seen this contract. I immediately went online to see if we were the only suckers who had fallen for this, and sure enough there were plenty of other people who had the same experience.
