Sure, I could have installed it myself, but would I have been brave enough to drill into the brick on the front of my house and not ruin everything? Probably not. So happy that Doug (one of the owners) knows what he's doing. He took care of ordering the parts, taking care of installation, and showing us how to use the app on our phones to get the most out of the system. He didn't try to upsell us on any additional products. We used VHS a 2nd time to install a smart lock on our home. Again, Doug showed us the various options available and pointed out we should choose a color that matched our existing hardware (I would not have thought of that on my own). He took care of ordering and installed for us. He ran into a few snags removing the existing lock and then getting the new deadbolt to latch. I can only imagine if my partner and I were trying to install, we would have been freaking out. Doug handled everything in stride (he's done this a few times). We thought we could download the app can get it connected to our Smart system ourselves, but again Doug was there to help us out when we got stuck. The personal attention that they give at VHS is unmatched. Communication via email with both Doug and Sean was easy and quick. They were available even after 5pm and on the weekend to work around our schedule. Of course, you could try to do everything yourself, but they take the thinking and arguing out of the equation. That's absolutely worth it to me!

That right there should have given me pause. -- KNOW: If you don't have a land line you will have to pay $20 EXTRA MONTHLY. Since most American households no longer have land lines Protect America gets $20 extra for absolutely nothing -- KNOW: There will be no installer. You will need to install your own equipment. -- I had several false alarms and paid citations each time for the police coming for no reason. Nanette, a Protect America manager, promised me I would be reimbursed for them and sent different motion detectors. Fast forward, it's months later. The 'different' motion detectors are also triggering false alarms and I still have not been credited for paid citations. --When I called customer service I was told that "Even a hair floating in the air can trigger your motion detectors" and "the reason you haven't been credited/refunded is because your citations were over 30 days old. Nanette had mentioned no time limit for sending in my citations and she knew they were already over 30 days old when she promised a refund. --As for the 'no land line' penalty...I now have one but customer service says I must continue paying the extra $20/month because I didn't have one when I signed on. When I filed a complaint on the BBB website of its Texas corporate office I read others citing that Protect America even continues to charge customers whose homes burned down as well as keep charging customers AFTER their hefty 3-year contract is up. People who rate this company highly apparently haven't had the kind of I've had YET. If and when they do they'll regret doing business with Protect America, just as I do.
