We were looking for lunch an stumbled on Abbie's! It is the Fourth of July and the decor was very festive! The waitress was amazing! They were out of Blue Moon beer but she suggested another and I like it even better!! We had 2 different pizzas and a grinder sandwich. We have one that is gluten intolerant so what a score they have awesome crust for those who are!! Meat lovers pizza was amazing also! The grinder sammie was huge and he announced it is a do over!! In true Abbie's style, they decorated for Valentine's Day. Very cute decor and even a spot to take selfies. The parking lot was full, but still plenty of seating inside. We were seated right away and ordered onion rings. The special was pay for a medium and get a large. We still had an enormous amount to take home. I personally wasn't a fan. I thought they used to be thinner, but on top of not being thin, they had zero flavor. Thank goodness the pizza did. Even had it cold for leftovers. Not sure if hot is better than cold. Our service was good. However, we witnessed a couple get seated with menus and then not one person come up to them in over ten minutes so they upped and left. Felt bad for them because our experience was decent. read more

Great food and service... always is busy there... super friendly staff.... If I only had one wish, I'd wish they'd use regular buns for sandwiches as the Italian bread is good but too think for sandwiches... They need to either drain the cavatelli longer or add more sauce... the sauce gets watered down and it's a really good sauce otherwise read more

Nice booths & a few tables in the front, with a room with big tables at the back. We started with a medium order of onion rings & they were fine. They're a bit different so that was fun to try. Four sizes of rings offered & medium was perfect. They came quickly! Our medium 1/2 sausage 1/2 pepperoni pizza was tasty. It, too, was the perfect size, with a couple of pieces leftover. We love this place. We drive 20 minutes just to dine here. They have a small staff, so if you are in a hurry, please be patient, they will get to you. We especially love their onion rings, pizza and sandwiches. The regular size sandwich is plenty big. This is a casual dining restaurant with a few beers to choose from. Fantastic pizza and phenomenal onion rings. This isn't a huge space and the parking kind of sucks, but do not let that deter you. This pizza is thinner and cut into strips. The sauce is flavorful and they don't skimp on the toppings. The onion rings are a little thicker than stringy rings, but there's a good amount of tasty, well-seasoned breading. This place is busy and gets a ton of carryout business as well. Wear your patient pants and go get some of the metro's best pizza and onion rings! read more

My server was an older lady (at least 60s) who was very attentive the entire time I was there. I ordered a medium onion rings for myself--which was too much. They have a light cornmeal-based breading...just the right amount. The creamy parm reminded me of the dressing at the Tavern. The meatball on my pasta was very firm--and flavorful. Care had been taken to make these. So why the three stars and not higher? I'm certain the pasta was not actually cavatelli, as it lacked the firmness and doughiness of cavatelli. Instead, the dish was closer to conchiglie, or shell pasta. Not quite the same effect. The sauce was zippy and a half portion was plenty. If I could give this place a zero on their service I would .. My daughter came to visit from Houston and was so excited to have the pizza and corn nuggets from here. TALKED ABOUT IT ALL DAY. We arrive to the restaurant, when you first walk in it's dirty in there. The entry way not only needs to be bigger if your going to make customers stand there and wait while you walk by and not acknowledge , but could also use a basic clean .. Not once did an employee say hello , we'll be right with you , NOTHING . Fast forward a couple of minutes my daughter stops a server to ask if we can be seated. She points to a table and says we can sit there. So we do.. Again nothing else after that , no acknowledgment by any servers saying they'll be right with us .. NOTHING . After about 7-10 mins we decide to leave on an empty stomach after watching the rest of the guests eating their food (that's all we were provided during this experience) . We got up and left without once again , another acknowledgment. I've only ordered this place takeout , I will not be back to this place after today. Not even for takeout . read more

Food was really tasty, not to mention abundant. Massive servings will definitely leave you with left overs to go. Onion rings were great with a corn meal breading. Not sure if they're were homemade, but they were good enough not to care. Sandwiches are served and Italian loaf bread, they're huge. I had the tenderloin and it was great even a day later. My adult daughter had the meatball sandwich and gave me a meatball to try, amazing is what it was! The pizza that came out to tables looks great, I will definitely be back to try some. Also ordered a draft beer, and it came in the frostiest mug i think I've ever had. Last of all, the young lady working the counter and the dining room was very pleasant and kind and easy to carry on conversation. Try this local gem. My husband and I do like to try a new restaurant every now and again. After reading reviews we thought we would give it a go! We have never been so disappointed! pizza was suppose to be thin and crispy crust, it was cardboard and soggy in the middle. It did not have a good taste. Mussy. The onion rings where nice and hot but very heavy breading to the point that lacked onion flavor. Tasted more breading than onions. The place is kind of plain but not in a unexceptional way. The server was super efficient and she had the entire dining room and to go orders. She truly was amazing! The food came out fresh and quick. It however had very little taste. The onion rings were tasteless and the creamy Parmesan dressing has not taste. The pizza crust was good but the sauce And everything else was just ok. I have to say if it wasn't for the server and her exceptional service this would have been a marginal experience but she elevated it to a place we might try again if we are in the area. read more

I have wanted to try this place for a while but my husband doesn't want to eat pizza as often as I do. This started and a bad food experience as the appetizers were mediocre. The ranch is not hidden valley. Service is great. The pizza made up for it all. Yes, it is like la pizza house because the owners grandpa started la pizza house. Abbies has great service and good food. Their pizza is reminiscent of the pizza from La Pizza House in the Des Moines area (IYKYK). Onion rings are fresh and hot when you get them. Their sandwiches are so good! Made on big loaves of freshly made, in house, homemade bread. It has comfortable seating and even a back room if you have a larger group. But from Thanksgiving to New Years the dinning areas are a spectacular Christmas explosion of lights and Christmas decorations. There is even a place for the perfect photo opportunity. Food is good, pizza is straight forward thin/hand tossed crust, sauce is herby but good, 14" is definitely big enough for a family of three or four. Go with a 1/4 order of the O rings. Very good pizza. I see that they have a few other locations.I think I saw a 2nd location in Des Moines. The waitress was very nice, excellent service. The pizza was sort of oval shape, new one on me, didn't change the taste. I would make this a regular place. Happy to have stopped in. I feel bad giving them only 2 stars, because the wait staff was So very good and personable. :( However, the food just did not measure up to my standard. The homemade onion rings were ok, but nothing to write home about - too much cornmeal in the breading. And the pizza did not excite any of the 4 of us dining out; found it pretty much bland. The sauce was on top of this thin crust pizza, which was kinda different. However it only seemed like trickery to hide the cheese or lack there of. The pizza was also oval shaped , but just seemed to make a large pizza seem more like a medium. Now, the place looks like a dive bar from the outside, but is actually rather outdated homey inside. And, I will say this- You can tell a lot of the customers there, including ones picking up, are regulars and know the staff by name. So.... while our group may not be back, a lot of people must get hooked and keep coming back for more! Maybe it's an acquired taste!! read more

If you ever ate La Pizza house as a kid and loved it, this is the place for you. Same oval pizzas, salads etc. The onion rings are a little different. Everything was good except the breading on the fried pickles was a little mushy but that isn't going to stop me from going. I love this place. read more

Whoa! Make sure you eat before you leave home because they are certainly stingy with their pizza. This was my first time; I ordered take-out, a medium 12 in. pizza and onion rings. Got home, opened the box and was immediately disappointed when I saw how small it was. It was 12 inches long, but only 6 inches wide. It was more the size of a personal size pan pizza. Also, stingy with ingredients which also made the pizza very thin. I paid $21.15 for a small pizza and 1/2 order onion rings. Needless to say I had to make salad to make up for shortage. You saw the last of me Polito's Pizza! Never again. read more
