I've been going to Ansel for over a year now to get my racquets strung. Let me back up a little bit to give you a reference point... When I first moved to Chicago, I found out that tennis stringers were few and far between, which was surprising. So I trekked around to different shops, and settled on a shop that is notorious for servicing UIC and DePaul. Customer service was horrible, prices were pretty outrageous, but I dealt with it. Then I found Ansel. Customer service can't be beat (he'll pick up / drop off the racquets wherever you are). His stringing prices are very reasonable. And you get good feedback if you want to talk about racquets/strings. In other places, if you're not buying $250 worth of gear along with your stringing, you're useless. Ansel is super efficient. I called him on Monday to get my racquet strung. Being a newbie, I wasn't sure what kind of string to get, but he recommended something and explained everything to me. He didn't try to push the very expensive stuff to me at all. The whole time he is very friendly on the phone and his price is very affordable. He was able to pick it up the next day, and when I got back from work today, he had already delivered it to my doorman! I will try out my racquet next week, but so far it looks pretty good. Ansel was very conveniently located so I thought I'd give him a try. He talked through types of string and what a good tension would be. Better yet, he turned around my racquet in less than 24 hours. I'm a squash player, so the only thing I think that would make his service better is if he carried more options for squash string. read more

Ansel provides unreal customer service. He worked with me by mail to string my racquets as I live in the burbs. He also picked up and dropped off one time when I was downtown for the day. His prices are very reasonable, and he'll even take your strings if you have already bought them. His turnaround is basically 24 hours. His work is good, the consistency of stringing is solid. Ansel is amazing. He'll go out of his way for you. I've had my racquets strung 3 times with him so far and each time I've been amazed at how quickly he gets the job done (usually get them back the next day). On top of that he'll deliver them back to you - it's incredibly convenient. Additionally, he's great in terms of knowledge / consultation. Had two Babolat racquet's strung with a Luxilon and Wilson hybrid and couldn't be happier with the job done. I sent Ansel a text message who was at work. We agreed that he would pick up my racquetball racket after he got off work. After he arrived we discussed my preferences and tension. He made several suggestions after viewing the old string and immediately noticed my issue. I'm usually not a mono filament fan but he convinced me that this would probably be the way to go since I hit it hard and yet still want control. Less than 16 hours later I get a text, informing me that he's on his way to work and that he has my rackets with him. It's now 7:30 AM and I have my restrung "sticks" in my possession ready for my match this afternoon. I can only say that Ansel did a great job and will use him again. If I don't like the string I will have him restring it with something else. I'll post again with my verdict on the mono-filament. Oh and yes, his price for the service is outstanding. Glad I decided to contact Ansel! I arranged same day service with him, dropped off my racquet, got lunch, picked it up, and was on the courts that afternoon. He is extremely friendly and helpful regarding string selection, and hooked me up with a great hybrid string combo that I liked alot more than my old strings. Sport Authority didn't carry most of the top-rated strings, and for the ones they did have, they wanted more money, and no same day service. Easy decision- go with Ansel. read more
