Exterior remodel: new gutter, new trim, new garage door frame, new garbage box, new paint.
    Sharifah S.

Isaam Construction is highly recommended. I give Abraham and his crew a 5 star rating. He does quality work and pays meticulous attention to detail. I live by the beach so my house has to be strong to withstand the elements. Isaam construction was very mindful of all my needs, service requests, and they completed my exterior remodel timely. They took their time and did not just rush the job. I highly recommend Isaam construction to all my friends, family, and anyone that wants their construction projects done correctly, timely, and beautifully.

Leak from the pipes they replaced.

I hired Isaam Construction to install a whole house water detection and shut off valve as required by my home insurance. I showed Abraham the product, sent them a link to the site, and asked about which size to buy. Abraham quoted me one worker at $75 per hour (plus materials) and said it would be 2-3 hours work. The day of the work, he showed up 2 hours early, which was a bit inconvenient, but a call beforehand would have been courteous. Then Abraham left his brother to do the work. Long story short, he left randomly without saying a word, apparently to get materials & lunch. I checked in when he got back and he had someone else with him, but didn't say anything about additional time or a worker. They left after finishing, but again, didn't say a word to me. Then I received a bill for nearly $900, plus materials! Abraham claimed that he didn't know the extent of work needed to install the product, but I sent him the information on it. Also, they claimed to fix a leak that no one mentioned or got approval for extra labor. I refused to pay the requested amount and offered $450, which was still much higher than the quote and what I would have paid Moen to install the product. A few days later, I notice a leak at the spigot where they replaced some pipes. Every day since, the leak has gotten worse. Today I had to call a plumber to come out and fix the leak and the loose pipe - an additional $240!!! I'm glad I refused to pay the full amount to Isaam because they did a terrible job. I do not recommend them and I will never use them again.

After interviewing over 10 contractors, we decided to go with Isaam Construction (the fact that they are based in Alameda was one of the primary reasons, along with good value and Abraham's easy-going personality) for our first-floor renovation (kitchen make-over, first floor flooring and paint). I gave them 5-stars in my review because I am more than pleased with their service... but to be clear, NOTHING in ANY project goes perfectly (be it installation, timeline, workmanship, etc). I say this as a DIYer who knows a thing or two about fixing things (and having been to really expensive new homes and observing the detail and execution of work in the finished product). As a client, you need to set realistic expectations. The Good: Abraham (the proprietor) is funny, easy-going, transparent, really good with communication and very trustworthy. He's given some ideas that was harder for his team to execute (like using the same backsplash material on our window frame) because it would look better (it turned out fantastic... see pics!). He's also attuned to his clients... there was one incident where an unfortunate slow leak occurred from one of the plumbed areas and because he knew how upsetting it was, he got his team to work on it immediately. His team was great too! His office staff was always available to help, and the construction crew was very mindful of their work and the occupants in the house. Things that could be improved: Timeline: yep, we went over the estimated timeline. BTW, a lot of this is driven by the permitting process so I don't blame them at all. Secondly, it rained a lot and if you know anything about construction, rain is a bummer. Also be aware that your project may not be the only thing his team is working on so you need to consider that...we knew and didn't mind so much as long as the final product was good. Cleanliness: again, if you know anything about construction, there will be a lot of chaos and mess (no exceptions. I have gone through other job sites and not just Isaam's during this project and none of them was clean by any stretch... it's just how it is). Once the job is done, everything goes to back to how it was. They did a great job cleaning up! So there you have it... Isaam did a great job with our project and we plan to use them for our next major one (very likely outside painting and repairs). 5 stars for sure!

Refinished floors, lack of fireplace, wall removed between kitchen and dining room, and wall removed between dining room and living room.

We had a great experience with our home remodel with Isaam Construction. We did a fireplace removal, reconfigured and removed several walls, and had our floors refinished. They were extremely fast and efficient with the fireplace removal, and worked with our schedule. They did a beautiful job on our floors and ceilings. I would consider hiring them again.

Hybrid French Drain System incorporating a high volume surge pump

ISAAM Construction designed and built a Hybrid French Drain system that incorporated a high volume surge pump to take out large volumes of water from the backyard from atmospheric river weather condition. This French Drain system has worked really well to take out and pump out water from the recent rainstorms keeping our garage dry. We are really happy to have hired ISAAM Construction to do the job. ISSAM Construction also did a re-roof on our house recently. The owner Abraham Maradiga is very competent to do small or large jobs and his worker's are great. Abraham gave us 2 options to re-roof our house: one stripping the one layer of shingles and the other installing a 2nd layer of shingles over the 1st layer which is code compliant. We did not know that this was a possibility and saved us over $5000. ISAAM Construction also did roof repairs for our neighbors and they were very happy and will be building a new Hybrid French drain system for our neighbors in the next few weeks. We highly recommend ISSAM Construction for drainage/French drains/hybrid French Drain high volume systems as well as roofing, foundation, new and remodeling jobs. Michael and Janice Yamagata

After reading all the positive reviews, I called Leyva Concrete and spoke with Alfredo. He came out, looked at the space and we talked through the process. This is ONLY because we checked daily work and instructed them to fix mistakes and sloppy work. They spent a lot of their time redoing what should have been completed right the first time. Daily progress (or lack there of) showed us that the owner/project manager (Tevita/Mata) is not a good project manager nor that he gave his crew clear direction on this project. The process after contract signing was horrible...not at all professional. The project took much longer than Tevita initially quoted (over 2 months vs the 2 weeks he originally told us). This resulted in change orders and cost overruns. He also tried to charge me to fix their breakage/mistakes/errors (e.g., fixing the sidewalk his workers broke). His crew was not respectful of our property (we had to live with their mess...it's not a vacant lot). They did not regularly clean up the work site nor organize equipment and materials left onsite. Seeing their lunch garbage (cans, bottles, wrappers, etc.) at the end of their workday was common. This continued even after repeated complaints to Tevita and to his crew. No one on site could to provide straight answers as to that day's work or when specific project goals would be completed. Whenever I would spoke with him, Tevita made excuses, provided misinformation, denied deliverables he previously promised, and deflected from answering direct questions. He has a habit of talking over the customer when asked questions he doesn't like. On at least one occasion, he raised his voice and started yelling to avoid answering questions. If it was not in writing, he'd say it wasn't what we discussed. I have never had such issues when working with professional/reputable companies. Tevita and his crew failed to meet every single deliverable date he set. I found him very difficult to work with. I feel that he does not show proper respect to the customer. Instead he appears to think that the customer, the person paying him, should accept subpar work. I suspect that he may also not fully understand the processes involved with the work being performed. I feel that Tevita and Lamata Concrete are not professional. They didn't use professional equipment and they didn't manage the job site or their onsite work time professionally. Their workers typically started late morning and were gone by early afternoon. Lamata Concrete has major logistical problems. They couldn't get an adequately-sized crew or required materials to the job site at the start of any given day, typically interrupting workflow for hours to go fetch supplies. Had they staged materials and tools at the worksite (where there was ample area to store all materials needed for the entire project) and had his crew worked a full 8 hours per day at the job site, I believe they could have finished weeks ago. They are SLOW...3 weeks for a stamped concrete driveway and pathways. I definitely CANNOT recommend them for a cinder block wall. It took way too long (over 2 months) to complete. I feel like they have never built this type of wall. I regret hiring Lamata Concrete. I CANNOT recommend Lamata Concrete nor would I use them again. They were such a hassle to work with compared to the many other professional/reputable companies I have hired. My opinion...take their negative YELP reviews seriously and ask for references and talk to those references. Tevita's response is a great example of how he makes excuses, provides misinformation, denies promised deliverables, and deflects from addressing the real issue. I find it a bit childish and very unprofessional.

A couple of years ago they helped me with a smaller concrete project, and I was so impressed by their professionalism and craftsmanship that I knew I would reach out again when it came time to redo my entire backyard. From the very beginning, Eric stood out for his clear communication and honesty. His quote was very fair compared to other contractors I contacted, but what really made a difference was how much thought he put into the design and planning. My backyard was in pretty bad shape -- uneven ground, cracked areas, and even a section near a retaining wall that wasn't very stable. Eric carefully looked at every problem and came up with creative, affordable, and effective solutions. He never tried to upsell or rush decisions. Instead, he made sure I fully understood each option, and he adjusted the plan to fit both my budget and my vision. During the construction, Eric and his dad worked with incredible efficiency and attention to detail. Every single day, they arrived on time, worked hard, and cleaned up so thoroughly before leaving that I could barely tell it was an active construction site. That level of care and respect for a client's home is rare and deeply appreciated. The final result completely transformed my backyard -- the concrete surface is smooth, solid, and beautifully leveled. They even paid attention to the small finishing touches that many contractors might overlook. The project was completed right on schedule, exactly as promised. Eric and his father are honest, reliable, and take great pride in their work. You can tell they truly care about doing the job right, not just getting it done. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to hire them again or recommend them to anyone who needs high-quality concrete work. They're the kind of people you feel lucky to find -- hardworking, trustworthy, and genuinely good at what they do.
