Great local daycare! Love that it's so close by to home so it makes pick up and drop off after work very easy. For the first visit, they require that you drop off your pet for a whole day so they can complete an assessment and make sure your dog gets along with others. I feel that pricing is very reasonable and love that my dog is able to socialize with others his own size since they break the dogs up into different size groups. You can book the daycare online and it's very easy to navigate. Wasn't sure if my dog liked it since I would have to drag him in past the gate, but after 4 visits I think he enjoys it now! read more

New owner run far away!!!!!!!! I had my dogs in overnight care and one of them was left in a yard where she ate pebbles. She had no food in her system! They called me to come pick her up and take her to the emergency vet! She was throwing up blood. They couldn't tell me the last time she ate or drank water. I confronted the owner and she did not offer compensation for the vet bills and couldn't answer any of my questions. I have waited for her to make it right so now I am just going to warn everyone. There's so many positives about Aardvark's. We take our 6-yr old cocker spaniel (see attached photo) to daycare at minimum 1x week & it's the best thing for us & our fur baby. Here's our review: The staff is very knowledgeable, kind & very loving towards our baby & our family. I always feel comfortable leaving her w/ the staff whether it's for a full day or overnight visits. Our dog loooooves the staff. Maybe it's the treats LOL - Either way, she's in good hands. The cost is reasonable, in comparison to other mobile daycare providers. I prefer consistency, and Aardvark provides that. The staff and owner are very professional. What I loved most was the "progress report" the owner provided me one day. It warmed my heart to know how involved the owner is & how comfortable my pup has become with the other dogs. I also like how they have separate areas for the large, small & medium pups & lounge area for pups that may be older & want to be left alone. There's a space for everyone ! DO NOT take your dog here. I inquired about grooming for my standard poodle. The place claims that their new groomer Sydney has won an award for the best groomer in the Bay Area but failed to provide me any pictures of example grooms that I had asked for and failed to connect me to the groomer herself. They told me that they did not offer the haircut style that I asked for which was either a poodle cut or a continental cut. If you're the best groomer in the Bay Area you should be able to handle a haircut like this. If you have a business for grooming why wouldn't you take a haircut like this, my dog is a poodle? What kind of groomer doesn't do poodle haircuts? Clearly they just opened grooming services for this place and it's a crap show because you can't even inquire about anything without them turning you away and suggesting another salon. If you're going to have a grooming salon make sure you have groomers who can do ALL styles. I've never reached out to a business that has been so dismissive. They did not provide me pricing, example pictures of past grooms, just "that is not a service we currently offer" ridiculous. read more

Aardvark's is the best. My daughter uses the overnight facility when they're away. To start, my daughter & family live in Lafayette and my husband & I live on Mare Island. We were familiar with the positive feedback we had heard from other customers of Aardvark. My daughter's dog is a Jack Russell and well, at times can be very leery of people and other dogs, but he thrives at Aardvarks. Years ago, when he went for his evaluation, I thought for sure, I'd get a call to come get him...Not so, they loved him. Yes, he's more connected to people but was not aggressive or timid around the other dogs. So for our part, we pick Biscuit up in Lafayette and bring him over because, for Biscuit, it's a place where he is happy and fits in. He is well cared for and I love the personal attention given to him and more importantly, that we're given. It is a bit of a workaround that works. The good news is we're close by if needed and our daughter is comfortable with using Aardvark. read more

I've only officially dropped off my puppy once so far. But the day I did, the day I did the paperwork and dropping her off this morning. I can stay they are consistently the nicest people ever and they're very good with dogs and they leave the cutest doggy report card when you take them for their trial day. They take a really long time to get into, but it's well worth the time! I've never taken my dog to a dog sitting place before, I've always been worried about them, and I always get bad feelings about them. But I haven't had this feeling about Aardvarks at all if anything. The day I came in and I did my paperwork. The whole team was amazing. I told them my concerns with my Jack Russel puppy, being left alone at my house while I waited for a slot to open up and I not only had one girl at the counter, I had two or three other people jump out of hiding to give recommendations. It's very convenient I work often and it can be reliable. The problem that I had is the hours are bad , I wish they were a little more flexible. I dislike that my dog got infected with the kennel cough and took them sometime to inform me about it. I don't like that now I have to wait a couple of weeks for my dog to go back Due to the lack of awareness and prevention that needed to happen. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for the owners and staff at Aardvark's. Jax, our 4 year old Doberman Pincher was bit by another dog at our house on Christmas Day. His paw got infected and had to be on antibiotics and pain medication. We had a scheduled trip out of town for the New Year. We felt horrible leaving him. BUT, Jax was in good hands. He received VIP treatment (as they all do). He had to be separated from the other dogs and had a 1:1. They gave him his antibiotics, pain meds and lots of TLC. How do I know? Because he came in limping, hardly bearing weight on his injured paw and when we came to pick him up, he came running to us! Thank you everyone for taking such great care of our Jaxie-poo! Love the people that work here! They truly care about your furry friends and you just feel the vibe as soon as you walk in. Our pups have only been here a few times but we're happy -- that they're happy! We drop them off before 6:30am and they get so excited, they take off without saying goodbye or looking back. What really irritated me was I gave the facility the benefit of the doubt the first time my dog got sick there, that was a $500.00 vet visit. Then we did a day run after she recovered before we boarded her for 5 days. Needless to say, she appeared okay when we returned and I paid for 10 more visits.. then.....I get her home and she's coughing up a storm and limping. 2 more visits to the vet to discover she had bronchitis and the facility swears she was fine.. that didn't happen in the hour before I picked her up. I think she was so excited because she didn't want to be there anymore..I also believe I was mislead about her illnesses and injuries as well as how much she had eaten and I presume quite a lot of her food was discarded. That was $1100.00 in vet bills. These are my intuitive feelings, which are very on point. I am thankful the facility owner reimbursed my prepaid visits. read more

Now, want to board again and am told we have to bring in our dog (again) for evaluation since it has been "so long". is 17 months gap too long? perhaps 12 months is too long? maybe 6 months is too long?? No one knows since it says nothing about this in the site information. They know the dog and have boarded him before. It is aggravating to have to deal with surprise, arbitrary rules. read more

I just adopted Duckie, and he has some serious separation anxiety. So I was looking for a reasonably cheap place to send him to dog daycare since I'm on a budget and what not. Originally, I had an appointment set up for a place in the city near my school, but they scheduled me for a week out. Duckie needed to be watched the very next morning, unexpectedly. My friends were busy, and I don't really know anyone in the area. So, in my search, I found Aardvark's. What drew me to the Mare Island location was the fact that they were open later, til 11pm, and they don't charge the extra $3 until after 7pm. So, I called to see if they could get Duckie in last minute (I called pretty late), and the owner told me to bring him in before 8:30 the next morning so she can evaluate him before her original evaluation came in. Brought him in the next morning, and I was pretty worried because he wouldn't go anywhere near anyone. I left him, though, and when I came to pick him up, he was all happy and so very tired. I got to see the place before I left, too, so I felt comfortable with where he was staying. I was told all he did the whole day was run in circles with one of the other dogs. I have definitely been back since then, and I love picking him up at night. Not only is he fed with the food I brought him, he's all tired out and wants nothing to do but sleep. It's wonderful after a long day out. $15 application fee $27 to board from 6am-7pm $3 per hour from 7pm-11pm A much better deal than the Benecia Rd location! Plenty of parking, but the location is somewhat hard to find. I recommend gpsing the Sports Center on Mare Island. Their location is right beside the sports center. read more

Highly Disappointed. I was referred by many people to leave my dog here. While I was on vacation I received a call from my Emergency contact stating that she had to pick up the dog. She was crying and vomited once she was picked up. I had left her here before and she seemed ok. She is a barker and need TLC but this place could not handle it. She was locked up in a back office when my Emergency Contact person came to pick her up. When I called to find out what happened they were rude and irritated. She was suppose to go back but I canceled it. They never called me to find out why or even cared that I canceled. If your dog needs TLC do not bring them here! read more

Highly recommend for day, overnight and extended stays for your pup. We were recommended this place by friends and are true believers of the business! We have taken our now 10 month old pit there a half dozen times and each time he is excited when he gets there and comes back happy and tired! They get a lot of supervised exercise and play when they stay there unlike some of the more expensive dog hotels or kennels where you have to pay for them when you want them to have play time. Great for keeping your dog socialized and entertained.....and HAPPY! Today I picked Fredo up from an overnight stay and he was happy to see me but couldn't stop locking eyes with all his dog friends watching him walk thru the parking lot thru the fence. He was sad to leave. But he will be back to play for the day on Thursday! The staff is super knowledgeable and very kind. They look out for your dog's best interest when you aren't there and always have a progress report for you. They literally know the dogs by name! My last review was over a year ago so I wanted to give an update. Kody LOVES daycare. He goes every Wednesday. We know that he knows what day he goes to daycare because he pulls us out of bed and will hardly finish breakfast due to his excitement. Now on the way to "school" (as we call it) he sits and stares out of the window calm as can be. He takes him time walking in sniffing the parking lot for new smells. As soon as we walk inside he is greeted with hugs and kisses from his human friends. When Kody sees the door open to the play area he doesn't even look back...I hope my human kids will be that easy! Kody also got to spend a night with his Aardvark pals on Mare Island. At first we wasn't too sure of the new place, but he saw one of his favorite caregivers and knew he was in for a great time. Aardvark's prices are right. The people here are amazing. They take notes and pay a ton of attention to your pup...I know because one of Kody's notes is to have a potty break every hour.... yes we have the peepee boy! Never mind the bad reviews once you and your pup come for a day you will be hooked! read more

We have boarded our beagle, Maisey many times, but always at a pet resort in napa. I thought i would give aardvarks a try this time. HUGE mistake. First off there is a $15 application fee. Then comes the evaluation, which is either a half day or full day. We went for the full day, another $27. So we dropped her off in the morning and got a call at noon to pick her up because she would not calm down. I thought the purpose of doggie day care was to get the dog tired from playing with other dogs. So she ended up staying a full day only to be told when I picked her up that she should should come back a couple more days before we board her overnight. A total RIPOFF. We spent $42 dollars before we might be able to board her here and they still wanted more days at $27 for just the day before an overnight stay. They also have very little grass, mostly rock and very little shade. Our dog has been boarded for up to 11 days at a time at a resort with a yard 4 times as big and she does perfectly fine. She gets along perfect with other dogs Save your money and find a someplace that is not snobby like Aardvarks read more

I love Aardvark's for my dog Bellatrix. First off, the place smells and looks clean! You would never guess packs of energy filled dogs are playing their butts off in back! The dogs are separated by size, and are always monitored! This is key for me. I want to ensure that my dog is safe while playing, and she gets that here. They also enforce good dog behavior. My dog has received her share of timeouts when appropriate, and that is key to making sure the pack respects the alpha! I love knowing the my dog has fun, is safe and comes home tired. They take the time to get to know the dogs, they aren't just "money" to them. I feel comfortable leaving her here, and I know she loves to come. The store is packed with wonderful products, they even placed a special order for me! The peace of mind I have coming here is priceless. I can't believe I wasn't coming here from day one! read more

My doggie is my best friend. These people love animals and go the extra mile to make my pet feel safe, and welcome. They have a large indoor and outdoor play area to run and have fun with their playmates! Delilah gets all excited whenever she gets to go and now doesn't have any anxiety when she gets there. Last time she took off with the attendant and didn't realize I was leaving (sniff, sniff) I am very grateful for that! I have also been impressed when I have picked her up, she was clean, happy, tail wagging and ready to be home in her bed! The staff at Aardvark's is exceptional. We have been taking Hunter here since he was 4 months old. What I love about this place is they know dog language in that there is no funny business going on with your dog while he's there. The dogs are all required to have good manners while they are there. Lots of sitting before going out to play. And the dogs get that as "Timeouts" are part of their remembering. You don't have to worry about staff not being attentive to your 4 legged friend. Hunters responds happily to the staff. They will tell you how the day went when you pick him up. Also they suggest things you might do at home to help in training. Rookie has been playing at Aardvarks for 5-1/2 years and the last year or so playing and staying overnight at "Island Aardvarks" on Mare Island, in Vallejo. We cannot say enough great things about both locations. From the owners, Janet & Glenda to their staff and the loving care and fun time they give my pup, they are AWESOME! They could change their name to Awesome Aardvarks Before Island Aardvarks (I.A.) had overnight stays, we tried a few other places when I travelled & could not take Rookie. Some were horrible, a couple were okay. None compare to I.A. Rookie gets SO excited when he goes there. You can see by his reaction how much he loves the staff. They offer the best hours for day care, until 7 pm 7 days a week, I believe. For a small extra fee, I can pick him up as late as 11 pm! Great for those SF Giants night games. The original Aardvarks is on Benicia Rd, close to Benicia/Vallejo city limits, easy access of Hwy 780 at Glen Cove. I.A. on Mare Island is next to the Round Sports Center on Walnut and easy on/off Hwy 37, Mare Island exit (or from Curtola Pkwy and over the MI bridge). I love when Rookie spends the night, staff is there and he's not sleeping in a crate. All the staff (Stacey, Janet, Christina, both Jessica's, Liz, Ben, and Lupe) love dogs, know about dogs and get to know each dog that comes to Aardvarks. I have never worried once about Rookie being there as I had at other locations. I have such peace of mind and love these "guys!" They take such good care of Rookie and all their canine friends and put up with me. I don't know what I would do if we didn't have them. They are the best! ********** (10 stars).
