If I could give it a 0 rating, I would. I had my car towed by AAA today to AAA 8053 Freehold Car Care. The tow truck driver informed me that it would possibly need a starter replacement. When asking the tow truck driver how much he thinks it would cost for an estimate, he said it to be around $150, maybe $200, plus labor. When I got to the car care, I was informed that it would cost an additional fee for diagnostics of $179 to ensure that they were replacing the right parts. It turns out the starter was the part that needed to be replaced, costing $714.00. While my car is in the shop, he comes out to me and tells me about OEM bypass pipe leaking. I ask him what the total price will be, and he prints and circles the price of $62.99 plus labor for the added part. I agree to fix the pipe. After waiting for 4 hours, I get a bill of $1414.02. This place never told me it required flushing cooling systems; I would have never agreed to the service. The employee at the front desk lied to me about the cost. Once confronted about his poor communication skills, he continued his lie. AAA is good for insurance, travel, and towing. NEVER NEVER NEVER USES THIS CAR SERVICE. read more

I have a soft spot for AAA since they've bailed me out of my own negligence (locked keys) and scooped my car off of far too many roadside predicaments to mention. However, when it comes to car service, AAA is decidedly a mixed bag - sometimes they're AAA, sometimes CCC and regrettably, they have been FFF especially when the diagnosis is not obvious. So, if you need an oil change, tire rotation or a new set of brakes go with confidence since they're as good as anyone... complex computer malfunctions, not so much. To be fair you could make a similar observation about most franchise repair shops. If your ride is named Malibu or Camry chances are they can handle it but if you prefer expensive arm candy that answers to Mercedes, Lexus or Lamborghini, I'd make alternate arrangements. Fortunately, my baby ain't named Ferrari so my VW falls well within their sweet spot. No guarantees however when I finally break down and score my dream ride, a 1974 Jensen Interceptor. I may have to look elsewhere for service, until that day arrives AAA will do just fine. read more

Totally ripped off car towed in by AAA for serpentine belt and tensioner pulley replacement and oil change parts at auto zone $140 plus $30 oil change total I was ripped off $748 sounds like a scam to me. Joke of a company. I take my car for an oil change and they refuse to do the service because unbeknownst to me I had unusable breaks. Okay, we come to the location to move the car ourselves, and they advise us to not drive and have a tow truck come. We were insured a three hour window at 2:15 for the tow truck to come, because our mechanic closes at 5:30. At 7:00 we get a call and learn the tow truck never came. We drive to the car and it is totally unlocked sitting in the parking lot. We contact multiple AAA representatives and not a single one of them knew where the key was however they were still trying to send a tow truck to get the car. Absolute failure, cancelled my AAA membership on the spot. read more

Been a member for 18 years. Today - I had an appointment for an oil change & a free tire rotation . I waited from 12pm - 2:15pm. During this time I was given a laundry list of things that needed repair - To change a license plate bulb - they wanted $35.00 - I purchased later today for $3.50 Best of all - after leaving shop - I looked closer at my receipt & it stated I declined my tire rotation. - So 2 1/2 hours for an oil change - what a waste of my time. read more

AAA says you will have a "one of a kind, unrivaled experience" by using a AAA Service Center. I definitely concur that my experience at the Freehold, NJ AAA Service Center meets that criteria because my experience can be summed up in one word - HELLISH!!!!! It is my own fault for believing that AAA's sterling reputation would carry over to its service stations, but I was proven wrong. Not only was I overcharged close to $400.00 for the service to my car (I know the amount because after paying close to $1,000.00, I got an estimate for the same work at a reputable service station), but three days after the 75,000 mile check-up and tune-up, my car broke down on the road and had to be towed back. The Freehold AAA Service Center's crackerjack technicians - ha! - kept the car for a few days and could not figure out what was wrong. I then had to take the car to a different service station where they were able to diagnose and fix the problem, which meant more money out of my pocket, although this sum was much more reasonable. When I questioned the amount of money I had been charged by AAA, I was told by the manager, Patrick, that they would gladly meet a competitor's prices. Of course, every time I returned to the Freehold AAA Service Center with my estimate, Patrick was conveniently gone for the day, on vacation, or away. It was extremely demeaning returning time and again only to be told to come back another time. Thank goodness for the intervention of the AAA Customer Service associate who called Patrick and told him to meet with me. Then it took over a week for Patrick and his higher-ups to determine how much I would be refunded; I was told by Patrick that I would get back $187.00, but when I received the check in the mail it was made out for $146.00. Another rip-off! You can be guaranteed that I will NEVER go near the Freehold AAA Service Center again! Not only was Patrick miserable to work with, the membership person is also nasty and grossly ill-informed regarding membership. She yelled at me that because I live in the AAA Midlantic Region, I must be a member of that club. Wrong! I belong to a statewide organization that has a corporate account, so I am now a member of AAA South Jersey. Of course the harridan wanted me to be a member of my local club - they charge more than twice as much for membership than what I am paying in the corporate group! She lied and said I could only be in the other group for a year, and that the price would then increase. I checked with AAA South Jersey and was assured that as long as I am a member of the organization, my annual rate will remain low. Bullying is not the best way to increase local membership. The woman at the service desk was also unpleasant. When I asked her if Patrick was available one of the times I stopped there, she yelled at me in front of other customers that she was busy and that I didn't need to raise my voice. As a retired teacher, it is clearly evident when I raise my voice to speak, and this was not one of those times. What ever happened to customer service? If insensitivity is part of Freehold AAA's employee training program, they have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. My recommendation: NEVER EVER go the FREEHOLD AAA SERVICE CENTER unless you enjoy getting ripped off and mistreated. read more

I have been a member for 17 years, and for the most part was satisfied with their road service. I own a 2005 Buick LeSabre with nearly 54,000 miles. Over the ears I have had my car serviced by the Buick dealership on Route 9. Ive always given the dealership very high ratings. Last week my check engine light went on, and the auto wasn't running smooth . Rather than bring my car to Buick, I decided to bring it to AAA on Route 9. The woman behind the counter, Donna was very nice and went on to explain what they will do. She told me they need to run a scan to locate the problem. " The scan cost will be 125.00. That's just for the scan. I asked if after they run the scan and I decide to have them repair the vehicle does 5he 125.00 get applied towards the repair cost. The answer was No. That cost was totally separate. Well after about an hour of waiting, Donna informed me of all the problems ( or potential problems ) and depending on what was done the estimate cost may be higher. She told me it would be approximately 900.00 . Long story short I told them to go ahead and repair the car. Approximately 3 hours later they call and told me the car was ready. So I went back to pay and get my car. Aside from what I thought was a huge amount of money for a " tune-up " and a mass air flow sensor. But this isn't why I'm writing this review. What I'm about to say may sound quite petty and for all intents and purposes is. I'm writing this solely based on principle. Inside the cars door on the drivers side there is a area where you can put cell phones or something you don't want moving around. Well I had a telescopic magnetic wand in the area. Why ? Well at times I'll drop my keys, or my stylus and not being able to bend very well, I'll take out my trusty magnet and problem solved. Not this magnet cost between 10 and 15 dollars. No big deal. Upon driving home I reached into that side pocket on the door and the magnet was gone. I know it was there when I brought the car in, as I had used it that morning. So again the cost factor is minimal. For me it was the principal. You entrust your car to a business and expect honesty. Now of course I can't prove this complaint and I can't prove who the person was that stole it. I called Donna from my home and told her what had occurred and she told me that she was not authorized to approach the mechanics about this issue, ( probably a union thing ) and she would tell her manager and get back to me quickly. No body has gotten back to me as of this writing. Nearly 1 week. So here's the deal........ I Thomas Raia, will never again entrust my car and it's contents to the AAA repair shop! I will also tell friends and family to boycott the establishment. And once my membership expires, I will not renew it. You lost me and my money on a 15.00 item that was taken. read more

I went to this AAA service center 2 weeks ago to have an oil change/tire rotation and to have a transmission fluid exchange done. I was there for 2 hours when the agent asked me to go out to the car. She then told me they could not do the transmission exchange and I should take it to the dealer. She then went on to tell me the car needed about 5 other things done to it. So they spent 2 hours going over my car trying to sell me other services. Which by the way weren't needed. Beware of this, also be advised that their advertised prices do not include labor charges. I thought there was a problem with my starter. So they came back to me and said that it was my starter and was going to charge me over $600 to replace it. I took my car someone else and found out that I only needed a new battery. They were going to rob me and possibly do damage to my car. And on top of that , they didn't put back the push pins from the pieces they removed. Horrible place. read more

Hotel discounts have never been better than booking direct. Car service I tried to use twice. First time after 3 hours we went and changed the 77 year olds tire ourselves. Today, a beautiful day, yet again we are first told 45 minutes, call after an hour and told another 45 minutes, then after 2 hours we get a first text that heavy call volume excuse. Seriously, a nice day in NJ and no support, no show and no follow up. Nit us a Wednesday afternoon. 3 hours and still sitting here. There us a reason I cancelled service last time. And they have zero guarantee on towing service. Time to find another company, awful!!!! read more

My car was towed there for a flat tire. The tow truck driver showed up with a torn shirt and no mask. I gave him a cloth mask, but he refused to put it on becasue he didn't know if it was clean. I called about that, they apologized and said they would follow-up. I needed two new tires. The first quote they gave me included $35 per tire insurance. When I questioned why it was so expensive for two tires, then she gave me the breakdown and told me that the insurance was optional. At first they weren't going to match the Michelins I had on the car. When I asked about that, they ordered the correct tires. When I went to pick up the car, I called the number and pressed the option for curbside service. I waited and it happened the service agent came out of the building for something else. I asked why after 10 minutes, no one had picked up the curbside call, he told me that was only for retail and that they were closed. Lastly the car felt a little odd ever since I picked it up. My tires are inflated to a higher pressure than normal. When I brought my car to the dealer, they noticed that the new tirew were 10 lbs under. They just went with the standard, and did not check the door for the pressure. I was going to Eatontown before this location opened. I will have all future service done at Eatontown. read more
